At first I hit “like” because I am glad you shared this. But I don’t think “like” is the right word …

Thankfully my wife votes by mail in Alaska and a witness has to physically sign the ballot. Since I insisted that I do it then I KNOW she voted for Kamala.

Who gave you the numbers? Should GOTV -- no Republican phone numbers.

fourfreedomsfan's avatar

The call was organized by Harris-Walz and MI Dems. It was to ID young voters

Carrie's avatar

I was on that phone bank, many students are unaffiliated, the script had us politely finish the call if they indicated they were voting for Trump

Jason's avatar

Even the best lists aren’t perfect. There are always a few Republicans hiding in “Dem only” lists. Also sometimes a Republican voter is registered as a Dem but doesn’t know it or hasn’t bothered to update their registration.

Daniel Solomon's avatar

After we've culled them several times, should be clean.

Simon Rosenberg's avatar

Daniel, seriously, ease up brother.

Daniel Solomon's avatar

Ha! Here on the ground, we get data from several sources. If the data comes from contaminated sources we are enabling MAGATs. In most cases we are on the 3rd or 4th pass. At the precinct level, we know the predilection of every occupant.

Dianne Chrestopoulos's avatar

Josh I did that too! It was awesome! See my comment above.

fourfreedomsfan's avatar

I was on that phone bank too, and that was THE SAME EXPERIENCE I HAD, although the one anti-Kamala bro I spoke with didn’t say he would vote for Trump (but he probably will). What amazed me were that so many young women were strong Kamala supporters—AND HAD ALREADY VOTED!

Daniel Solomon's avatar

In VAN we can tell who are predisposed to vote for Harris and should leave everyone else alone.

Faith Wilson's avatar

My wife was also phone banking MI young voters yesterday and found the same thing- of the ones who answered, most had already voted for Harris, including some guys.

So grateful for you and for this community!

Thank you Simon for your dedication and the inspiration that you bring to this community!

It takes a leader to amass a following, Simon.

You are a leader. This is really important stuff. We need a sharp person who can connect the dots… to help folks see.

You got my attention when you spotted the “big red wave” nonsense. Folks can rely on Fox or Simon Rosenberg.

Huge difference (obviously). I prefer truth and reality instead of propaganda.

fourfreedomsfan's avatar

So happy Simon was here to focus us strategically, so we didn’t just light millions of dollars on fire donating it to MJ Hegar or Amy McGrath or Jaime Harrison because they ran against someone we detested and they had a good ad.

He gave us focus and the ability to powerfully leverage our resources for maximum change.

(Btw, I guess our money did help give us Jaime Harrison as a great DNC leader!)

Gary Scharrer's avatar

Yes. Always best to focus strategically than to close your eyes and swing for the fences.

I remain fascinating by the rapidly changing demographics in Texas. We should have a better sense in a few days whether Texas turns in 2028 or 2032

40 electoral college votes today; likely 42 in 2032.

Paula Sweeney's avatar

Gary, would you please post what you see about turning Texas at least purple (hopefully blue) and the timing once all the data is in. Have my fingers crossed Allred will pull it out tomorrow and Texas does the nation a favor by giving Cruz his walking papers.

Gary Scharrer's avatar

Sure, Paula. It’s the demographics (we see nearly 90,000 more Texas “whites” die every year than Hispanics; and some 100,000 more Texas Hispanics turn 18 each year than Texas “whites”

Houston suburban county Fort Bend (Tom DeLay) used to be deep red. It’s gone Blue; same for Hays and Williamson County outside Austin. They’ve turned Blue.

Republicans won Collin County adjacent to Dallas by 48 points two decades ago. I expect Harris to flip Collin County (Biden lost by 4.3 points.)

Denton County near Fort Worth and Dallas is getting close to flipping.

If the trend line holds, Harris will lose Texas by 3 or 4 points

Cruz-Allred? Stay tuned :)

Maybe we (Hopium and partners) take our focus to Texas? We’ll have 3 years and lots of grassroots partners?!?!🇺🇸

Tom Thumb's avatar

Yes, it's pretty clear why the state that NIU's "cost of voting" analysis rated the hardest to vote in 2020 passed a whole raft of new suppression measures in 2021. The in-migration of MAGAs apparently isn't keeping pace (I think I'll get an AI to draw me a Latino immigrant holding up a sign that says MAGAs Go Home! :D ). The other reason they're doing everything they can to hold on is they know if TX becomes--and stays--purple, it de facto makes it unlikely we'll see any more popular vote losers win the EC.

Gary Scharrer's avatar

Texas GOPers have bought time with voter suppression efforts; but they can’t buy the future. “60 Minutes” put a bright spotlight on the GOP’s radical and rigid abortion laws (last night). Not a good look for Texas.

But … it’s the state’s changing demographics. “White” students down to 25 percent of the state’s 5.5 million kid’s in the Texas K-12 system last year.

From a friend if mine who flew from Spokane, Washington (!) to canvass in Pittsburgh:

"I’m in PA doorbelling for VP Harris. A woman at the door today wouldn’t vocalize her support for Kamala because her husband was in the next room.

When I asked who she planned to vote for she just nodded toward my pamphlets. Still processing that."

Fortunately, there is one place where her Right to Choose is still protected:

For all the worries about "shy Trump" voters, I think people are really underestimating the possibility of "shy Kamala" voters.

Wow! That's a bit of a trip in the name of democracy! I live in the western suburbs of Pittsburgh and, while my neighborhood is flying a number of Harris/Walz signs (and Ukraine flags!), there are definitely maga male supporters in Allegheny and Washington Counties riding around in their jacked-up trucks with balls, tRump banners and red hats. I feel for that woman, can't imagine living like that.

I saw a video of a woman in her very late 70s, recently widowed, who was voting for the very first time because her husband told her she “didn’t need to be voting.”

Now that he was dead- she was voting.

It was inspiring and heartbreaking at the same time.

I volunteered here in Mecklenburg County as a Poll Observer during EV (and am doing shift tomorrow as well). We have touch screen machines that print your chocies in a readable format onto a ballot, that you take to a scanner that reads and collects the ballots. There is a cardboard shield around the voting machine, but it wouldn't be tough for someone who was in an adjacent booth to see who you voted for if they were intent on doing so.

In NC you can ask for assistance from someone you bring with you. They can put you in same voting booth and the two people vote one at a time or they can set you up in adjacent booths. Usually it is pretty clear why assistance is needed even though poll workers can't ask for reason. Younger family member helping elderly family member, physical disability, etc.

But I was creeped out by a few younger to middle aged men telling the poll worker that they needed be put in the same voting booth with their wife. Poll workers asked the spouse if it was Ok, but there wasn't much that they could do when spouse agreed.

Fortunately, this was few and far between.

Good morning and happy election eve! From my outreach efforts this weekend I'm feeling pretty good about NE-02 going for Harris and flipping Don Bacon's seat to Tony Vargas. Dan Osborn is going to be a competitive Senate race and it will depend on if tomorrow is a blue wave/landslide election for Harris and the Democrats. I also think Janelle Bynum is going to flip a House seat in Oregon, which was another race I worked on this weekend.

Oddly enough, I'm not that nervous about tomorrow. I feel it's going to be a historic election, in a good way. I don't think it's going to be as close as the media makes it out to be, I think some states no one is talking about are going to flip, and I even think we might know the outcome before the night is over tomorrow. Maybe that's crazy to think that way, but that's where I am.

DMWL! We are winning, but haven't won yet.

Lisa Iannucci's avatar

Agree. I am not nervous, and I have not been since KDH took over the reins. I am confident, happy and motivated. Let's do this!

Talked my oldest friend from high school, who worked in constituent services for an R Congressman for 15 years and is likely to win a seat on our City Council tomorrow night running as an R to pull the lever for Kamala! He sent me a photo of his ballot from the booth to prove it!

Today is my birthday and America’s gonna give me the best gift ever tomorrow…even better than when election day 2008 fell on my birthday 😁.

Let’s close out strong….below is a link to the song I wrote and recorded for my Hopium brothers and sisters….. #HopeWthAPlan!

Steve, this is fantastic! Thank you. The Hopium Song, I hope Simon hears this. I LOVE YOU, SIMON! Tonight on The Last Word, Lawrence told a story about how he was taught that optimism is a choice. Simon taught me that here. It is never too late to learn. It has been a struggle for me, because I have walked in darkness, grief and rage for so long.
