I would be wary of anything coming from a private citizen on such an important topic regardless of the virtue of the work. We have plenty to work with from what is already widely known.

It's been so great seeing so many people fired up to help win this November. Been making calls and writing postcards - mostly for Pennsylvania because its just over the river from me. Excited to keep it moving in the right direction!

North Carolina begins sending absentee ballots on Sept 6. Most other states begin two weeks later.

Millions of people can only vote this way - and they need to hear from us!

Take a minute and contact those you know. Here's a Quick Action in Mobilize to make it easy.

The Harris/Walz campaign and this group here at Hopium have been very inspiring to me. You guys rock and we are doing great work! As a result of all the inspiring work being done, my wife and I have decided to spend the last 7 weeks of the campaign volunteering in North Carolina so that we can help turn the state blue! After contacting the campaign, we will be working out of the Charlotte regional office and I can't wait to get down there.

Prior to this campaign, I had never contributed nearly this much money, written this many postcards or volunteered to help out. But hearing about what everyone is doing and seeing the signup numbers from the Harris/Walz campaign made this an easy decision. I tell you all of this so that you all know that your stories of working for the campaign are inspiring and they are working! We are not going back! I would ask everyone to keep working, keep donating, stretch your comfort zone and get out there phonebanking and knocking on doors. We can sleep when we are dead!

That wonderful, and I hope you and your wife have a great time in Charlotte. I am going to seeing friends in NC the weekend before the election, and already have plans to canvass while I am there. In the meantime, back to all of my other activities.

I hope they manage to secure some additional office space - they had the Meck Dems and the coordinated campaign sharing office space the last time I visited the campaign office. it was pretty cramped. But if you are mostly just picking up collateral and then heading out to spend time knocking on doors it probably won't be too bad.

If you have some down time, I recommend checking out Optimist Hall which is just outside of uptown. It is an upscale international food court with a few sit-down bars and restaurants:

https://www.optimisthall.com/

There are also some nice craft breweries I'm told - I'm not a beer drinker. But beware of Olde Mecklenburg Brewery and Biergarten - they are owned by Trump supporters.

I think you'll just miss the Greek Festival (Sep 6- 8) - the food is great and is all made by the ladies of Holy Trinity.

But you should be here in time for Festival in the Park (Sept 20 - 22) https://festivalinthepark.org/festival-in-the-park/

Also check out the Charlotte Arts Festival Schedule here: https://www.charlotteartsfest.com/events.

Some of these events are relatively new, but old standards are the already mentioned Festival in the Park, UNC Charlotte's International festival (https://ifest.charlotte.edu/) and Festival of India (https://indiafestival.iacofcarolinas.org/).

Feel free to DM me if you have a questions a long-term Charlottean could answer!

Thank you! I know they are about to secure another space, so hopefully that happens before I get there. I very much appreciate these recommendations! I get there 9/22 and look forward to helping in whatever way they want me to!

Simon- I live in NC and am being bombarded with email from Stein, Jeff Jackson and Mo Green. I just gave $1,000. to the NC Dem party through Hopium and cannot do any more right now. Perhaps it would be helpful if you have Anderson tell us how she is using the $403k already raised through Hopium. Thanks.

Hi all, I'm feeling the amazing energy! Am writing postcards through Field Team 6 today. I also am amplifying Simon's message via my own modest blog, which is something others who blog can do too. Here's my latest: https://theaccidentalrabbi.substack.com/p/voting-on-day-1-and-other-ways-to

Simon, why is Jon Tester on your Hopium Support page? If he loses, the chances of holding the Senate are minimal. Seems to me that we should be making a big effort on his behalf. SteveG

SteveG, how long have you been following Hopium? Simon has covered why Hopium isn't directly supporting ANY Senate Candidates multiple times. However, there is absolutely nothing to stop you from donating there should you choose to do so.

Simon can correct me or add anything I left out, but basically it boils down to wanting to get the most bang for your buck:

- Senate races are much more expensive than house races

- incumbents have better access to large money donors and DCCC and DSCC money (despite all the hair-on-fire emails) so new marginal dollars aren't as effective

- The marginal dollar goes furthest for first-time house candidates in swing districts that Biden won in 2020 - which is where Hopium is investing.

Volunteered at the Louisville dem party headquarters to handout yard signs this weekend. A lot of enthusiasm. People are willing to talk about the campaign whereas in the past people were afraid to discuss or show support.

One thousand postcards done. Canvassing next.

Help the technology challenged 🤪The register for subscribers link for Tuesday night takes me to a blank Zoom page—can’t figure out how register.

Are you trying to register on an Apple iPad? Zoom and Apple are not playing well together. The other week people had better luck registering with their iphones. You should probably also check to make sure you have an up-to-date Zoom client. Log into Zoom and then look for an article in help on how to update software.

Hi Simon. Can you please address what’s happening in Texas with AG Paxton raiding the homes and offices of Democratic candidates who are running for Texas state office? And what can we do about it; especially if we don’t live in Texas? I was shocked to read about yesterday. Thank you!

Theresa,I support Marc Elias/Democracy Docket( if you’re not familiar, he’s the one who won all the court cases against the nefarious GOP players) and CREW because they are fighting back against people like AG Paxton.Meanwhile I’m working to GOTV in MAGA-villa,Fl!

Don't know if it is the same event, but the video of Kamala dancing with the Isiserettes Drill and Drum Corps in Iowa is a viral video. The link with audio is posted above.

The kids are the Isiserettes Drill and Drum Corps according to Des Moines Register. The group was at an event just before the Iowa Democratic Party's Liberty and Justice Celebration dinner at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines November 1, 2019. Here's the viral video with audio of the drum corps coming into the event center after marching outside. https://x.com/tperry518/status/1190378195272577025

Simon, am I missing something in "with Democrats"? The link that should go to " in-depth strategy behind candidates supported" takes me to "with democrats" - I'm not finding the strategy post folded in to "with democrats".

Well, MAGA did give me one positive thing....

Yesterday in a parking lot my 7 year old read the back of a Truck "MAGA 2024: Trump and the Ho gotta Go"

This gave me a perfect time to reinforce concepts like respect and treating people with dignity. My hope for this election is that it is such a devastating loss for MAGA and Trump that it begins to disappear. Living in MAGA hotbeds is a bit of a struggle.

But....even here in Florida there has been a shift. While there are still theAGA American Taliban driving around, I am seeing more Harris signs then ever before, and anecdotally a number of hardcore MAGA types are saying that they can't vote Orange this year.

Expand full comment

I also saw yesterday on a public group post (I think it was Women Hold Up Half the Sky), that Florida folks who don't feel safe posting Harris/Walz signs are buying/making blue flamingos and donning them w/pearls and chucks to honor Kamala's signature look! It apparently started in or near the Central FL community where they rode golf carts for Harris and is spreading across the state. This is also a great option for people living in HOA's where political yard signs are forbidden but lawn ornaments are not!
