Nixon was at 24% when he resigned. Trump may or may not resign, but I believe we can drive his numbers down into the low thirties and twenties. Let the GOP feel that.

I realize what a horrible person I've become, but between Hopiumunity, me, and the four walls, my wish is that Trump's decrepit face and polling numbers are burned into Mitch McConnell's retina and are the last thing he sees before he leaves this earth.

I’m not doing anything today except work stuff

So I’ll do that thing now where we talk about what we’re thankful for

I’m thankful for y’all, & for Hopium, & for Simon’s guidance, wisdom & leadership

It has been a beacon in the dark for the past year

A kind of home base to coalesce & evolve around

Somewhere to check in & not be alone & to find a way to move forward

When everything —& everyone— felt pretty scattered & hopeless for awhile there

It has been a pretty frightening time to be unmoored, so—

I’m thankful for having found some anchor here

Hello! I called my Dem Senator's DC office and someone answered the phone! Usually it's VM. But I talked about Ukraine and voiced my discontent and disbelief over what is happening.

For those that are postcard writers - postcardstovoters.org has a campaign for Eileen Higgins!

Go Rep Aftyn!!!

The Emerson poll is remarkable. For perspective, the GOP has to rethink its entire redistricting strategy if Behn comes within single digits in a R+22 district—just single digits and some of these gerrymandered districts in TX and efforts in states like FL look really risky for the GOP.

If she wins or only loses by a point or two, the GOP redistricting is an abject disaster. A total disaster, and it’s very likely Dems GAIN from GOP redistricting.

I see it like this - if she wins, they lose the house in 2026 most likely. If she comes close, redistricting is probably going to cost them BIGLY in 2026.

Their choice is between eating a shit sandwich and a turd burger.

This Hopium Community is amazing! To raise $28,000 (so far) in only three days for Aftyn is heartwarming. Athletes use visualization to show them how to perform under pressure and win. So, I'm visualizing what it will be like to celebrate Aftyn's victory next Tuesday.

At the same time, the testimony Simon posted about a young, US citizen being traumatized for weeks by ICE before her bogus "case" was dismissed for lack of evidence should make everyone's blood boil. The Jim Crow south is now our entire country. But we WILL restore sanity. And not allow this to happen again.

Remember in the Behn race...if she doesn't prevail but the margin is close, in single digits, it's a great indicator of GOP weakness. Obviously if she wins, it's more of an earthquake.

Oh this would be amazing...

Simon, I wonder if this would lead to GOP retirements if she wins? Even if she comes within a couple of points. I think it would.

Also, I wonder if you might try to get Cait Conley who is running against Lawler, as a guest. She was talking with Bobby Jones on Lincoln Square last night. I think she will destroy Lawler if he doesn't retire first, but she is an inspiring candidate. Very authentic with lots of passion and intensity. Having her on Armed Services grilling Pete Hegseth will be game changing.

Thank you, Simon!

You mention that, "There is also a stark gender divide; men break for Van Epps by nine points, 51% to 42%, whereas women break for Behn by six, 50% to 44%,” Kimball added." I was struck by Aftyn's response to you yesterday when you asked her if she's having fun. The standard answer to that question is for the candidate to say, "Yes, it's great getting out and meeting so many people, etc., etc., etc." But that's not what Aftyn said. She said that the misogyny she's experienced has made this experience unpleasant. I'd just like all of us to stop and think about that: about how women have to do everything the male candidates do, and do it "backwards and in high heels." It's 2025 and our daughters and granddaughters are still having to fight through a thicket of prejudice and hatred. It makes me very sad.

Today is my day to make spiced pecans for the holidays. The kitchen smells lovely and I have YoYo Ma playing. I hope everyone's holidays are warm and wonderful.

I noticed that too Catherine. I have lived it, and now my young adult daughter is, too. I look to the positive for sanity. Aftyn’s got 42% of the men. I hope it grows. Last I saw, Mikie Sherrill got something like 49% of the male vote. Stay strong, sister.

As if we aging “second wave” feminists haven’t had our hearts broken over and over by the public savaging of Anita, Christine, Hillary, Elizabeth, Kamala, each savaging attributed to Anything But Misogyny. I pray that our women continue to Pull This Thing Off over and over in election after election. Note that we had 45 pegged as a rapist long before the pedophile thing reared its head to bite 47. But not until the pedo thing showed up did we gain traction against the sick monster.

This comment led to me to look up how many women around the world have been elected or appointed chief executives (President or Prime Minister). It's more than 160 since 1939. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_elected_and_appointed_female_state_leaders

27 counties currently have women as chief executives, ranging from Denmark to Mexico to Namibia to Japan to Vatican City (!). The failure of the US to be included on that list anywhere, over the past 85 years, is really notable and speaks to the particularly virulent level of misogyny that exists in this country. Heartbreaking and enraging that someone like Aftyn Behn can't just run for office without having to deal with that. I'm a father of daughters and an uncle of nieces, all in their 20s, and it's absolutely not okay.

It is heartening, though, to see people like Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherrill and Mary Peltola and Jasmine Crockett and Deb Haaland on the rise, and it makes me hopeful that we can change this soon. The level of support for women candidates within the Hopium Community is something I'm really grateful for, and I don't think it's any accident on Simon's part.

I had donated to Afton on Sunday before Simon's endorsement. I just now donated a little bit more. Her interview with Simon really showed what a compassionate person she is. That district in Tennessee will be lucky to have her. I think people have come to realize the MAGA GOP reps aren't doing anything to help or benefit their constituents and it's showing in the polls. I called my senators Kelly and Gallego to let them know how disgusted I was with the treatment of Ukraine by the regime. Mark Kelly is standing up to our drunk Sec of Def, saying bring it. Everyone, Happy Thanksgiving and don't let the bastards get you down. We can and are doing this.
