I know I’m biased - I’ve voted for the guy several times - but that video clip of my Governor just bringing it on the stump - with humor, facts AND sarcasm - made me laugh out loud. So fun to watch Walz work the crowd!
Been a day for me- door knocking, post carding and now cooking for 6. I know I can sleep afterwards but this pace is killer. (I’m 70. Today, I feel it!) Laughter makes it so much easier.

Im 70 too, somedays are rough - life is crazy but we know the assignment. I live in very red E TX - there is no door knocking here - you could get shot. But I sent postcards and text banked a lot. Thanks for all you do!
I want to be optimistic - I really do - but feel like there’s an avalanche of stories and updates focusing on Trump’s momentum. So, for the first time in my voting life - I am ready to make calls - having made my first campaign donation ever a month ago. This is all just too freaking scary. Any other first time callers want to share their experiences?
You can do it! When I get discouraged calling, I take a break, take a breath and remember that my uncles had to fight fascism in WWII under threat of bombs and bullets. We just have to deal with possibly a few jerks or hang-ups. But the few conversations we have with people eager for early voting information, or who want to talk policy , or need help in any way, all make up for that, in my experience.
Adam you’’ll be glad you did! It is great to start in a group cuz you can ask for help and share your experience. Just like anything the more you do it, the more confident you feel. Just like canvassing , calling you will have nice memorable interactions that will make it feel worth it and make you ready to go/call again. It is SO Much better then anxiety scrolling, cuz your talking to voters who are likely much less informed then yourself. Your sharing your knowledge to those who are interested in listening. Sign up, have a gummy or glass of wine, do a shift, you will feel great after. Proud of yourself. We are proud of you too! Hug from NC!

One of our major political parties has collapsed into something that's not very American at all which is, yes, freaking scary! Because America is so strong & steady & stable, it's taking American voters a little while to wake up and notice the fact that the Republican Party is failing and falling - and is currently threatening to take the rest of us over the edge of the cliff with it.
It is a privilege to be able to call our friends & neighbors and warn them. We do the work and leave the results to providence. Godspeed!
Hi Simon: I am a paid subscriber to Hopium and I have been active in Democratic politics, though informally, for my entire adult life (I'm 43). I feel like I have a unique skill set that can really help close during this campaign. I'm a teacher (History/government/social science) and have a lot of experience public speaking. I have a podcast and Youtube channel dedicated to U.S. History, so a lot of experience doing online outreach as well.
I'd like to help close the campaign for Harris and swing-seat Dems as much as I can for the next two weeks. If you can make any suggestions about what I might do, in addition to or instead of phone-banking--I live in Irvine, CA--to reach more voters, undecided, Democrats or otherwise, I think I can do a lot for the campaign to close out. Anyone you connect me with or anything you can advise me to do would be appreciated. Thank you!
We have to remember that Hitler was a loser coward -- he lost the war and killed himself rather than accept responsibility. Who does that remind us of... of course!!! so many of our MAGA candidates.
There is a reason that both MVP Harris and Gov Walz both have higher favorables than unfavorables - virtually unknown in modern politics! Lets work hard and close out strong, as Simon says!
I did phone banking tonight*. Turned out it was not into Wisconsin but rather Michigan. Either one, asGreat Lakes states, were especially interesting and fun for me… We're all made of Great Lakes water!
* This was a very good experience. Went in to calls with Simon's suggested mindset... that it was wonderful to be able to talk to other Americans on the phone about the election. My most memorable call was with a Republican woman. We talked for 15 minutes maybe. She was adamantly "voting against Trump!!" Some of the highlights of the call were –1. When asked what issue was most important to her, she said "HONESTY." When I asked about her second issue, she said "DECENCY"! At that point, I knew this was someone I could talk to and we had a wonderful chat about Liz Cheney and her plan to vote. She wondered why all the calls and texts she was getting more from Democrats/Democratic Party. I told her I thought it was probably because the former president had dismantled the Republican party's ground game and that I understood the funds were going to his legal bills; but that the Democratic Party had a very well-developed ground game of volunteers and had been very inclusive of non-Democrats who want to preserve democracy. She was also interested in the likelihood that she would no longer get calls and texts, etc. when she gets her ballot in.
I have learned so much from Simon and Hubbell and Heather over these last years... very useful in these phone calls.
I highly recommend phone banking with this group. not only was well run but also just the right amount of supportive for those like me who are a bit hesitant.
