Another big win tonight! Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this happen.
Since the Dobbs decision in June of 2022, Democrats and pro-reproductive freedom, pro-democracy forces keep showing up big and Republicans keep struggling:
In five post-Dobbs House specials in 2022 Dems outperformed their 2020 results by an average of 7 points
In 2022’s early vote Dems outperformed their early vote in both 2018 and 2020, years where we did much better in the overall vote
The statewide vote in the 2022 Kansas abortion ballot initiative was a blowout for reproductive freedom - in Kansas!
Our strong performance in 2022 defied history, and we gained ground from 2020 in AZ, CO, GA, MI, MN, NH and PA, and got to 59% in CO, 57% in PA, 55% in MI, 54% in NH. In August of 2023 we are still waiting for that red wave.
In 2023 Dems have taken away a highly contested GOP Supreme Court seat in WI with 56% of the vote and unexpectedly won in the traditional Republican cities of Colorado Springs, CO and Jacksonville, FL.
Democratic fundraising in the first half of 2023 is far outpacing our fundraising in the first half of 2019, even though we do not have a contested Presidential primary campaign.
Now we have won big in Ohio, another place that was supposed to be hostile terrain for us.
This continued overperformance even in traditionally Republican areas is why I think Democrats need to focus on expanding our coalition, growing our vote, and Get to 55 in 2024. The GOP’s extremism is pushing them further and further away from the electorate, meaning much more is possible for us now - as we’ve been seeing since the spring of last year.
Congrats to everyone who worked so hard on this important election. It’s a big win for the grassroots in the Democratic Party, whose continued hard work is pushing our performance to the upper end of what’s possible, again and again. And thanks to everyone here in the Hopium community, who watched my recent talk with David Pepper and took action in Ohio. Your donations, postcards, calls, texts, and canvassing really mattered.
As we head into 2024, in every way possible, I would much rather be us than them.
Keep working hard everyone and savor this win - it was a big one! Simon
Thanks everyone🫶🥰👏 HALELUJAH Stay the course 🤝
WooHoo! Victory for democracy and big step to reproductive rights.
