Because they are all—whether individuals like Putin, Orban, Tr*mp, or Netanyahu, or nations like Iran, Saudi Arabia, or groups like Hamas, the Taliban, the KKK, or The OathKeepers—oppressors.
Oppressors who share the same zeal and obsession for denying OTHERS (women, people of color, the LGBTQ, immigrants, or those who hold different religious beliefs, or none at all) every one of the freedoms, they want to reserve exclusively for themselves.
There is no hypocrisy—only a deep-rooted belief and value system where a wealthy, well-connected few distract (through endless culture wars and faux-aggrieved victim hood) and divide (by stoking fear and hatred), to ensure they don’t ever have to pay what they owe, or be held accountable, all so they can hold onto their power through minority rule (gerrymandering, barriers to voting, overturning elections, sowing distrust in elections, etc.), and the denial of basic democratic norms and everyone else’s fundamental human rights.
This is fascism, no matter its label (MAGA or Nazi), country of origin, or dear leader...and this is the enemy we must ALL stand against, each and everyone of us who is on the side of justice, equality, and freedoms...
Natalie & or Simon - Please communicate that to other strategists from Biden's right down to city council !!! I seriously hope they adopt that or something in that vein! I suspect Democrats have started to learn not to be so scared/intimidated with messaging. I think that was one reason there was no Red wave. No more campaigning with our tails between our legs.
Jarrod, if you're interested in effective messaging -- I strongly recommend joining these monthly calls with Anat Shenker-Osario, a messaging genius who uses focus-group tested data to drive specifically effective outreach language, all of which she grounds in the cognitive science work of George Lakoff (e.g., moral frames), and the values/villains/vision structure for communicating progressive values to drive mobisuasion (mobilization and persuasion):
Thank you !!! I've heard her interviewed on various podcasts before - she's awesome! I've always thought if only she and Dan Pfeiffer could advise every American campaign from school board on up !!! Seriously thanks! Good to know there's a way to be more directly plugged in with what she does !
There will many issues I'm sure in next years campaign however as far as I'm concerned one of the central ones should be Dobbs, Dobbs & more Dobbs. One of the most important components in resoundingly rejecting MAGA should forever be that one notorious"D"word. It's up to all of us to make sure the GOP spends several lifetimes paying for that ruling. I don't care whether it's Matt Gaetz or Susan Collins - they all bear responsibility. Let every person who values bodily autonomy continue to beat that drum. Let the bastards NEVER LIVE IT DOWN
I agree wholeheartedly and I appreciate your passion. What has become clear to me recently is how little most people understand about abortion and pregnancy. It is not about smiling babies with hairbows on billboards. It is often a matter of life and death. The risks involved in pregnancy and childbirth are real and generally minimized. Of all the wealthy countries in the world, we have the worst record of maternal health. This should be shocking, especially to those who broadcast so loudly the right to life. I would like to see us all better understand the challenges maternal and child health pose for our society.
I think right sentiment is still there amongst most people ( at least those with common sense) - but in keeping with the growth/expansion theme of Hopium it's incumbent on everyone to keep that fire burning - ensure is spreads like wildfire. I wholeheartedly believe Dobbs was a huge reason there was no red wave - just as it was for the good elections this year. But we need to ensure EVERYONE remembers that the GOP is not a pro life party - they are a pro birth / pro forced birth party. That may may not be the only key to winning next year but it's a major piece of the puzzle .
I ask this question with respect for the horrors committed by Hamas but with concern for the continued killing of Gazans: when is it enough? When will the US call for a Cease Fire?
Biden isn't just for a cease fire, he negotiated one. It ended when Hamas refused to keep turning over hostages. They ended this cease fire, as they ended the one negotiated in 2021. Hamas deserves far more blame for the deaths of Gazans than is in our discourse on the center-left. It is what they wanted, otherwise they never would have attacked Israel and then retreated to the tunnels using 2m Gazans as human shields. Look I have been deeply critical of Bibi and the conduct of the war, but holding Hamas harmless for what has happened is, in my mind, ridiculous. They brought ruin to Gaza, on purpose, by design, because they are fanatics and extremists, like the Iranian government, like ISIS and don't care at all about the people or place they purport to represent.
Thanks.....this issue is really starting to piss me off, not because I don’t have all the same concerns about the Palestinian people in Gaza, but because of the stunning lack of nuance being deployed in the debate about how to move forward. One of the primary reasons I have been attracted to the center-left my entire life is that we (unlike the “conservative movement”) generally have accepted, acknowledged, and tried to deal in good faith with the complexity of issues and how best to address them to make progress toward our shared desired outcomes. It’s been very disconcerting to see so many center left leaders approach this horrible and complicated situation with such a counterproductive oversimplification of the options and consequences, as well as the chain of events that got us here
In light of the situation in Texas, why isn't Joe on on TV and social media this week talking about abortion rights, and how Trump is directly responsible (and has proudly taken credit) for overturning Roe?
Simon, on The Economy, do you recommend attacking/poking Trump? Or, just focusing on the current numbers. I feel there is an opportunity to say "Trump inherited Obama's low inflation, low gas prices, and strong jobs economy." Thanks, GOC
I see your reports and then I see polling data that shows people think they are worse off under Biden. Are Republicans trained to tell lies to pollsters? Otherwise it does not make sense to me.
Plus there's this wise quote from Investigative journalist/ Substack writer Judd Legum...
"...Over the next 330 days, media outlets will spend countless hours covering the anticipated matchup between Trump and Biden as if it's a sporting competition. Polls will be analyzed, dissected, and averaged. Predictions will be made. This kind of coverage is popular because people are anxious to know who will be the next president.
Here's the truth: No one will know who the next president will be until November 5, 2024. Save yourself some time and ignore the chatter..."
Thank you for your work fighting Donald Trump. You list eight reasons to oppose him, and I agree with all eight. I suggest you consider adding his incompetent response to COVID, which I think many people would consider one of his biggest crimes. They say "A man's character is his fate." As president he had the opportunity to be a hero but instead he failed miserably. He incompetently managed the country's response to Covid which I believe resulted in the excess deaths of many hundreds of thousands of Americans. I hope there is an effective way to remind the voting public of how much gratuitous pain and loss this man caused and that he should not be given such power ever again
Just a question here - but - I joined a Facebook group called Biden a Day which focuses on all the positive things he's done - now a caveat here is it's only been in existence since August but it has only 954 members - I'm guessing I may be wrong to try interpret Biden's chances by the group's membership numbers ? It also occurs to me that a huge chunk of not right wing people may have stopped using Facebook . Still I can't help but wonder....
You're probably better off for it - there are communities I still connect with ( including indivisible) so I can't bring myself to slam it entirely BUT if it weren't for indivisible and some nerdier groups I'd probably deactivate it lol
“Woman. Life. Freedom.”
It should be our rallying call.
Because they are all—whether individuals like Putin, Orban, Tr*mp, or Netanyahu, or nations like Iran, Saudi Arabia, or groups like Hamas, the Taliban, the KKK, or The OathKeepers—oppressors.

You really nailed it. Thank you for saying that so well and so clearly.
Thanks Susan!
Woman, life, freedom in Iran, Texas and everywhere.

Don't forget hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths in early COVID: https://peterjanovsky.substack.com/p/we-want-them-infected-the-deadly?utm_source=profile&utm_medium=reader2 "We Want Them Infected: The Deadly COVID Policy"
Thank you for that reminder and wake up call. It’s chilling.
I don't remember if I posted this to one of your posts or someone elses. If so, I apologize for repeating myself.

Pro birth, pro forced birth party. That’s a line worth remembering. Thanks 🙏

The truth I think polling data is increasingly unreliable. There are so many factors. Plus here's a good piece by David Brooks on how really to take polls...https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/09/opinion/democrats-biden-poll-numbers.html. These polls about the economy don't tell the whole story.

Simple direct and true.
