What do democrats stand for. Will they deliver universal healthcare, living wage…… I am beginning to wonder. Yes Trump and friends must go first but we need to add what we will deliver and where our moral compass leads
I find the confusion about this a little odd.....have we not made clear that we are for restoring ACA and Medicaid cuts, rolling back the tariffs, protecting our freedoms and democracy, for reining in ICE, standing with our allies?
Simon, thanks for responding. Going back to how things were is never possible. I want us to be bold moving forward. It may be time for positive change and a new vision. Thanks for what you do.
living wage sounds good until you get focus groups together and even the dems start to question the costs and ask if there are other solutions; source; nicholas gruen, interview feb 17 joe trippi podcast. dems can only deliver if we give them power in sufficient numbers; obama didn't have it, biden didn't have it; they still got a shitload done with one hand tied behind their backs. but i will say this; while we can walk and chew gum at the same time, the priority has to be the destruction of trumpism and the restoration of faith in democracy. so yes, i can support george conway even if he was once an enemy, because he has seen the light and he fights. i have attended protests and donated money and time. as scott galloway says, it is useful to get up and take action; you will feel better being around others and knowing you are not alone.
Well said! It’s downright tragic that Brazil and South Korea have to show the world how you deal with insurrectionists. And in America?? SCOTUS and other corrupt justices dithered, Merrick Garland dithered – and the Americans chose to return the lead insurrectionist to the Oval Office!
Well, it’s incredibly frustrating and disheartening but… My favorite parts of American history are the moments when America redeems itself from its worst mistakes. Let’s make sure we are about to live one of those redemption flashpoints. 🙏🇺🇸
well brazil has a tradition of jailing former presidents, we do not. so there's that. can't say more about s korea, but they did suffer under authoritarian rule for a time, so are a little more attuned to the threats, and know that it has to be forcefully challenged.
“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.”
Yes, awesome news!! Looking at footage of ICE smashing windows, beating and dragging people etc - it occurred to me that January 6 never ended, it just moved into the streets and targeted the American people. I’m curious to know if you think that is a message that would resonate with voters. I wish someone would cut a video interspersing footage from January 6 with ICE assaults in our streets.
One aspect to keep in mind regarding the reported arrest of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor: He reportedly is under investigation for Misuse of Public Office, not sex crimes or other child abuse. It appears the investigation is focused on the former prince having sent Epstein confidential government documents he would have accessed in his former formal role as a trade representative for the UK. It’s likewise reported that the investigation into Peter Mandleson pertains to similar concerns (provision of confidential UK government information to Epstein).
Nevertheless, today’s arrest does create a very helpful and very stark contrast regarding fealty to the Rule of Law. From the current online edition of The Wall Street Journal:
King Charles III said Thursday that he had learned of the news regarding his younger brother with “deepest concern” but that the royal family supported a full investigation. He added: “Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.”
The law must take its course. The contrast between the Head of State of our closest ally in acknowledging and submitting to the Rule of Law and the contempt for the Rule of Law shown daily by our current Head of State (President Trump) and his sycophantic enablers could not be starker.
Kevin while I agree with much of this the "Epstein scandal" is not just about sex crimes. It is elites acting with impunity and lawlessness and betrayal across all domains. So the counsel about the nature of these investigations and the accountability that followed isn't necessary. The Epstein affair is also now about Russia, eugenics, the penetration of the Tories and much much more.
Mr. Rosenberg — thank you for responding and you make an appropriate broader point. Impunity, lawlessness and betrayal across multiple domains is an apt critique of this scandal and also the mode of operation of the President and his Administration. For example, the President’s open misuse of his own office for corrupt financial gains demonstrates a similar degree of acting as if laws exist for others but not for him.
NATIONAL SECURITY, NATIONAL SECURITY, NATIONAL SECURITY!
Folks:
Admittedly, “Godfather II” is a classic film on many levels. It is also evergreen for human behavior. The members of the original “Firm” seem to understand the import of this classic scene: https://clip.cafe/the-godfather-part-ii-1974/i-dont-want-anything-happen-him-my-mothers-alive/ . The pull quote is the following: “I don’t want anything to happen to him while my mother is alive.” Who knew that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was really “Fredo” Corleone?
CARTHAGO DELENDA EST (via nonviolence).
P.S.: Do the following now! FIRST, TEACH CIVICS. Second, register voters. THIRD, TEACH CIVICS. Rinse. Repeat.
Wow. Let's hope Trump is the next domino to fall if Ted Lieu's comments turn out to be true. Thanks for the updates, Simon.

Come on Jane! Take the W and celebrate and keep your buzzkill notions to yourself.

All power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely.

At some point, that corruption will always collapse under the pressure of its own weight and rotted foundations.
Steady as she goes, my fellow patriots.

I'm celebrating "Jealous of Other Countries Day"
😂😂
Universal healthcare AND accountability for abusive authoritarians and oligarchs??? We’re both jealous today

So it won't surprise me at all if King Charles cancels the visit to Trump that's been planned for this Spring.
He's an odd duck for sure. Hard to believe he didn't know what was going on with Andrew all these years.
Little cracks become BIG cracks. We celebrate the wins and commit to working even harder.
Tyrants have been around since the beginning of time. They die, go to jail or flee the country. They all have an end and Trump will too!

Beautiful. Thank you for this today.
So hoping former prince Andrew will be compelled to talk about all he knows and the collaborators. If our corrupt DOJ won’t help, the world needs too!

A very astute comment and a great idea!
That sounds like a job for Alison Gill & her team!

OOH, that's a great writeup - thanks!
Maybe Andrew will make a deal and rat out Trump and other elites who played with Epstein!
I hope he doesn't fall out a window before he rats out the Epstein elites.

It does seem plausible that other countries' investigations could expose the offenders our legal infrastructure will not.
The British monarchy follows rule of law more than our democracy under Trump.
