The interview you had with Rita Hart was just as good as the last one. She is a Special Woman, fighting for her Iowa. I think she definitely will prevail in getting the Candidates she wants.
I wish I was a High Net Worth Donor. But, I'm not. So, I will still send another donation to her.
Thank you for this post and interview! I'm in Minnesota, but Iowa is dear to my heart for several reasons. I sent Christina Bohannan a check because I don't use ActBlue anymore, and I will be sending checks also to Rob Sand and the winner of the 3rd district primary.
I love these interviews. I'm cleaning out my studio, and it's a wonderful way to keep informed while doing mundane tasks. Thanks so much. My folks were from Ohio, and "Mid West Nice" is a real thing. Let's bring that back.
Thank you very much for this interview. It’s encouraging to hear that Democratic infrastructure is growing and that good candidates have a chance of winning in Iowa. Both my parents were born and raised in Iowa so it’s a very special place for me. PLEASE, Simon, in future interviews let us hear how elections will be safe from the meddling and corruption coming from Trump. We have to stay ahead of the damage they could do. Trump attempted to change the last presidential election. He has a bead on this year’s elections. We need to be prepared that he doesn’t sow chaos in any election—ever. The issues such as tariffs and inflation are very important. Thanks for delving into those. However, please give time also to telling us how elections are being secured from tampering! Thank you!
I like these interviews with state party heads because I learn something about the issues and economies of a different part of the country from people who are very much on the ground. I get a peek outside my New England bubble. Thanks for bringing these people to us.
Self-reporting - Completed all my news boosting postcards for NC, and stamped them. I'll drop them in the mail tomorrow. I plan to order the next batch.
I've started watching the news again. I couldn't bear to for a while, but so much is happening and that's a good place to get the highlights of the day and also meet some of the candidates who are running as well as hear about a lot of things that are going right amidst so much that is going wrong.
My mom, one of 10 children, grew up in Iowa. So I'm always watching Iowa. Meanwhile I'm trying to keep tabs on my own congressional rep here in Massachusetts: I wrote my Congressman (Stephen Lynch), the ranking member of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology, and Artificial Intelligence, to praise his expressed outrage (at FEB 11 subcommittee hearing) at the blatant corruption that the SEC was doing nothing to check.
As an Iowan who proudly voted for Rita Hart in 2020, I want to call attention to her remarkable graciousness. Eleven minutes into this interview, she mentions the importance of party coordination in the context of her “6 point” loss for the congressional seat. Only it was not a “six point” loss: it was a 6 VOTE loss.
Had the party been able to effectively challenge the 6 vote difference in 2020, we would have been saved from the pestilent blight of the lickspittle MAGA toady, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who has been defiling IA-01 ever since.
My most sincere shout out to Rita Hart— had I been in her shoes, I would be so bitter. Instead, she’s effectively helping the state to reclaim our birthright of decency, fairness and elected officials who believe in these values.
We just made a contribution to the expansion fund. I think this is a good idea. It's always a balancing act figuring out how to allocate $ - not wasting money on unwinnable races but also recognizing that being too careful can prevent winning in new places when things swing the other way. And I can't help thinking that things are swinging our way, and we need to be in a position to take advantage of possible wins in what we'd formerly think of as unlikely places.
Very important reminder to contribute early to these important state parties.
I loved how she turned the tariff question around by reminding people what they could have voted FOR! Just imagine how an even better partnership with Canada could have worked out for Iowa farmers!
I grew up in Iowa City & i follow Iowa politics. there was a huge brain drain i my generation because there were no opportunities there. thank you terry braindead.
Interested former Iowans are scattered across the globe.
i cannot believe that Grassley is still alive, he seemed ancient when i was in high school and working for Tom Harkin's campaign
Great interview! It's these types of interviews that are pretty much unique to Hopium Chronicles that got me 'hooked' on Hopium.
I've been donating funds and I feel like I'm getting value for my money - most of the Democrats supported by Simon win. It creates sort of virtuous cycle - you donate, they win, you want to donate more, they win more...
The other thing I love about these interviews is the Democratic state chairs really know their states. Local and state elections and how to win them can be a very dry topic, but the Democratic chairs tell you what's special and important about their state. Simon talked about getting out of the NYC bubble when we worked in Iowa. These interviews give us all a chance to get out of our bubbles and to understand the contributions made by people all over the country. It's what makes our country so great, every person doing their little part to make this amazing tapestry.
Good Afternoon, Simon.

I’ve been donating to Iowa because I’m a Missourian who sees potential in this state.
Watching now! I love these interviews with the state chairs. So important.

Thanks for the idea. I really need to declutter and downsize, and maybe if I follow your lead I'll make some progress.

Same for me in my DC suburbs bubble. It's nice to get a peek into other areas of the country and their distinct area personalities.
Ditto for me in my East Coast Elite Gotham bubble.

Thanks for the reminder! I have 200 postcards at home that need to go in the mailbox today.
