Paid subscribers gather tonight at 630pm ET to talk about last night's elections, the new NYT polling, and more. The USMNT plays at 8pm tonight - let's room them on, together!
We can now grasp the possibility of congressional control. And with that comes oversight that can systematically dismantle the kleptocratic fascism that we now see in play. So this Saturday, let's share the sentiment that will drive the future of our recovery: "Sorry Donald. It's not your America that we're celebrating, IT'S OURS." Simon, please share that phrase with your viewers and readers as a way of consolidating the power of tens of millions of us.
Keep talking about VIRTUE and the other values that can be named by the newly enriched Democratic Party! We love knowing what we stand for. Moral strength, a return to neighborliness, kindness, country health over personal wealth, etc.
I was happy to hear Cory Booker explain on Lawrence O'Donnell that he has solid plans to reform the Supreme Court once Dems gain power. He believes he can do it without amending the Constitution, which I think is important.
I know this may not seem like the biggest deal, but one of the things that upsets me most is the way Trump is just tearing up our Capitol city for his own vanity. That's what I called my congressman and senators about today.
I'm staying inside with air conditioning and iced tea today and working on my postcards to Ohio voters.
Tearing up our Capitol, is a visual that encompasses all the rot, greed and destruction of Trump and his sycophants. And, yes, I agree. It is our Capitol. Enjoy your cool air and iced tea. ❤️
Dear Simon, this is all deeply encouraging! I actually think Peltola is going to pull it off 🙏. As for both messaging and perception, how can we best ensure Trump and the GOP don’t effectively hijack the messaging, swaying any necessary votes given this recent DSA insurgence? Especially as we look out towards the 2028 election? Wouldn’t want too many younger voters staying home simply cuz our nominee isn’t ’progressive enough.’
I agree that our candidates must have the tools and money to control the message of their campaigns, and combat the lies and AI generated crap that they’ll be attacked with. I am definitely no expert (and I look forward to hearing from those who are), but it seems to me that a candidate needs to be able to respond very fast - the longer the lies are unchallenged, the harder it is to successfully counter them, right?
Do our wonderful candidates have what they need? Not just money but expertise? Especially the first timers?
If not, is there a role for us to help with this?
After all, we don’t just want wins, we want big, indisputable wins!
And, I am so heartened by our candidates. Such wonderful new energy for Dems!
I hope Republicans believe these polls. Methinks whatever model they're using to calibrate "likely voters" this year is going to be seriously blown up.
Simon, also, do you think David Jolly has a significant chance at flipping the Governor’s seat in FL especially if the GOP nominee is someone extreme like that of Donald’s?
What a great group of patriots we are. Encouraged today.
Stay cool everyone. It's dangerously hot. I'm in western Mass... and it's going toward 100 every day for 3 days. Whew.
Oh... if you haven't heard Talarico's speech, take a listen. It's really inspiring. Fun to hear his choice of words, themes, songs, stories and way of talking. Everyone is speaking to THEIR people. It's really great how authentic this generation of candidates has become.
Anyone else tired of the topic of Israel trying to become the ‘litmus test’ for our party’s elections? I’m not saying it doesn’t matter but my God, this can’t be the ‘winning or losing’ pathway. “Affordability, anti corruption, rebuffing Trumpism, rooting out antisemitism/islamaphobia/homophobia/racism/xenophobia”…ALL wrapped into one balanced and concise style of messaging…THAT is the winning path forward.
After all the momentum we’ve built and are continuing to build, we cannot afford to regress over outsized issues that while tragic, don’t directly affect the recorrecting course needed here in America. Sure, two things can be true at once but we MUST be PRAGMATIC!!! Like BTC says, if you want to be progressive (like he is), it counts to be a pragmatic progressive, NOT performative nor hellbent on issues that have the tendency to blur the lines of alienating any one minority group of voters, turning it into a litmus test. Why can’t we message the majority view? We are Pro Israel…the nation and its people! We’re also Pro Gaza and its people! We’re Anti Bibi, his government and Anti Hamas! How hard is this, seriously?!?
In Alaska with polls like the one shown, we really need to take advantage of the ranked choice voting. I think Dan Sullivan wins head to head with no 3rd party candidates but Peltola has a 50-50 chance with no less than "100 independents" in the race and ranked choice.
The first few minutes had so much info I thought maybe I'd switch tasks, but each few minutes had yet more. One update was that Belarus stopped giving Russia access to its tech system that extended Russia's range after Zelenskyy gave them 24 hours to stop sharing or have them blown up. The reporter says he hasn't heard a Russian drone over Kiev for 10 days.

Bucks County PA County Commission adopted a brief proclamation this morning for America 250 Day as part of their consent agenda. It was inspired by the resolution drafted by Craig Peters, and is a more general statement.
Board Vice-Chair Robert J. Harvie Jr. , Hopium-supported U.S. House candidate PA-01, presented the proclamation for adoption and acknowledged Craig's contribution. During public comments, Craig gave a marvelous oral presentation in revolutionary garb, and another resident spoke on behalf of the proclamation. All three were able to convey more than the written words captured.
Headed to Bucks County tomorrow morning to escape the blistering, suffocating heat expected in Philadelphia, the cradle of our democracy, for the 4th, so this is delightful to read. So happy for Harvie because I think he'll win and this is just one more thing to like about him :). (Bucks also my late mother-in-law's district). Thanks for sharing.
I feel more concerned about disunity in our party. I get this primarily from people I know who are DSA angry about the response of establishment figures to some of the primary wins for progressives and DSA candidates. I also see more and more people posting angry things about candidates taking AIPAC funding. Or, I see it in establishment or centrist people angry or concerned about the DSA candidates.
How do you balance needing to win in November with sending out angry messages about how we need to vote out anyone who has taken AIPAC money? So many people are creating distrust around our candidates. How do you scorn the DSA candidates, or more centrist candidates, and expect people to be excited about electing Democrats?
If the DSA people win every primary, then they will be the tiniest minority party in the history of Congress. They will get nothing done.
A political party is a fucking coalition and so many people don't seem to grasp that. Regardless of where you stand in the political spectrum, you have to win as a party to get anything done. Even if there were more political parties that are competitive, then those parties would still have to form a coalition and elect a speaker.
We've got to keep this thing together to beat out the fascists. We've also got to figure out how to communicate how their corrupt Supreme Court has devastated the ability of our government to function as a modern governing system. We are turning into a society run by lawyers and judges rather than experts.
In support of our amazing, intrepid group of candidates fighting hard for us, for democracy, for their constituents, I quote the following polling and data analysis from G. Elliott Morris:
The most successful D candidate, who can overcome the relatively negative national Democratic "brand" is "… the one who comes across as a real, independent person who cares about their constituents — issue positions notwithstanding."
"What voters responded to wasn’t a specific set of positions. It was the cue that this specific person wasn’t just who you thought they were based on the national party brand. They were a “real” candidate, not just a name with a “D” next to it."
"What the experiment shows is that if you give a Democratic Party candidate almost any concrete identity other than “Democratic Party candidate”, they beat the generic party-coded alternative. And you can accomplish that without saying a single word about issues."
"REAL, INDEPENDENT PERSON WHO CARES ABOUT THEIR CONSTITUENTS." A REALLY good description of our Hopium-endorsed candidates.
Orange sees TR as a "peer" LOLOLOL. He might want to look up what "trust busting" means.
So proud of this community, and of the Garden State, which just passed our own version of the John Lewis VRA. Next up-permanent VBM (surprisingly, it's not already permanent, and Rutgers is one of the entities blocking it. UGH).
He'll say TR is a "peer" and then he'll start saying "some people think Trump is better than TR". He did the same thing with Lincoln, he thinks he can replace Lincoln.
And PS - TR already has a monument, he doesn't need Orange. He has a whole island in the middle of the Potomac, one of my favorite places that is not as well-visited as others. https://www.nps.gov/this/index.htm
Thanks for the Applebaum link. As for TR, in addition to "busting trusts," he was also a huge proponent of national parks--not for himself but for the people of America. He also ran for President on the Bull Moose Party, aka the Progressive Party with a platform of "dissolving the unholy alliance of corrupt business and corrupt politics." The party also called for restrictions on campaign contributions, social insurance, an eight-hour workday and women's suffrage. Trump and TR couldn't have been more different.

$175,000 in one day? So proud to be a member of this fantastic group!
Simon, thank you for the good fundraising news!

Yes, was quite please w Sen Booker's SCOTUS plan. Now let's do what we can to make it so!

Insurgence? You realize that implies overthrow?
Someone else referrenced "separating the wheat from the chaff" a couple days ago.
What happened to the big tent? I'm beginning to feel alienated here, and I doubt I'm alone.
Pro-democracy comes in shades. Let's be careful about throwing shade on the rainbow.
Simon, also, do you think David Jolly has a significant chance at flipping the Governor’s seat in FL especially if the GOP nominee is someone extreme like that of Donald’s?
And what about Vindman?
Both Jolly and Vindman are essentially tied in polling right now. Donalds is a particularly bad candidate that Jolly can beat.
What a great group of patriots we are. Encouraged today.

I was not aware of this. Where did you find out about it? I'd like to see and share the link.
In the interview
I missed it. Got to go back and look. I sneak and read while working.
And there's loads more in the interview too. Worth listening all the way to the end.
Got it. Thank ya Rachel Poliner. I'm, going to check it out.

I am loving the French men's national soccer team, which stomped Sweden pretty badly yesterday. Looking forward to tonight's call. Keep going!
I saw that and it made me furious. TR would chew Trump up and spit him out.
TR would think Trump was soft. And he'd be right. TR discovered a river in Brazil and almost died doing it. After he was president.
He'll say TR is a "peer" and then he'll start saying "some people think Trump is better than TR". He did the same thing with Lincoln, he thinks he can replace Lincoln.
