Lonnie, you keep reposting this, again and again. Yesterday, Deborah Potter gave you significant pushback with highly relevant links. Here is what she posted:

"In the United States, Medical Doctors are not allowed to diagnose patients they have never seen, or comment on the illness of patients without their consent. It is unethical. Here is an explanation from the American Psychiatric Association."

https://www.psychiatry.org/news-room/apa-blogs/the-goldwater-rule

And:

"Lee lost her position at Yale University as a β€œvoluntary” assistant clinical professor for this unethical behavior, i.e., giving professional opinions about someone who is not her patient and who has not granted permission to disclose her findings. She sued Yale in 2021, and lost her case and her dismissal was upheld in appellate court."

While I applaud your intentions, you keep repeating yourself – verbatum. With all respect, I don’t think that is very effective, at least not with the Hopium audience. May I humbly suggest you at least try some variation?

For the record, I don’t see any trace of disinformation in Deborah’s comments. You’re not taking them to heart, nor the objective reasons why Dr Lee lost her position at Yale.

I saw this recently posted somewhere: "I believe the American people WILL turn against him within 6 months when the effects of his lies and 'policies' hit their pockets."

(He's already rescinded Biden's executive order that lowered Medicare drug costs.)

Some of these special House races coming up ahead might prove a meaningful barometer of changing sentiment.

I call it the Great Unraveling. Like a cheap sweater with a snag, it's all coming apart. His nominees are under fire. His EOs are meet with numerous lawsuits. He's causing more damage to MAGA than to democracy. He got rebuked in public. (We know he HATES that.) Former endorsements (Fraternal Order of Police) are mad. His pet oligarchs aren't doing well. It's ETTD, except on steroids. 3 days in, and his "sweater" looks like a crop top. Poor little thing.

The years following the War of 1812 became known as the Era of Good Feelings. Sadly, we are experiencing what future generations may know as the Era of Shame. I hope our beloved country can weather this storm so that we can continue on as a stronger, wiser, and more compassionate nation.

In the years leading up to our bicentennial in 1976, some shipmates and I put together a collection of short films to watch and discuss on our Navy ship. The following link -- "Freedom River" -- from the early 1970s -- echoes, I think, what you wrote. (Just over 6 minutes.) I hope you would agree that this has been an "era" that has gone on for quite awhile now.

Thank you so much. That is amazing. It reminded me of a wonderful man who lived in my city a few years ago. He was a Buddhist monk from Vietnam who served the local Vietnamese population, and was friendly with us Americans, treating us like brothers and sisters. He would walk the streets near the temple dressed in his plain robe as a form of meditation, and his neighbors would ask him: "Why are you here?" His English was not very good, but he would answer with a smile on his face, "Freedom!"

I'm sure glad you liked it. And thank YOU for bringing that memory back to me.

I served on two Navy ships that spent time in combat zones off the coast of Vietnam. Don't know if you ever heard of Thich Nhat Hanh -- a Vietnamese monk. I often play some of his talks to help me sleep.

I asked a Vietnamese if they hated Americans. He said ... "Nah.. we didn't have to deal with you for more than 20 or 30 years. The French... over 200 years.... and the Chinese!!. OMG..."

RFK Jr was never going to be a cabinet member. Bending the knee to Trump earns you his contempt, not his loyalty. At this point, he'll be lucky to be confirmed as the royal human footstool. Trump's going to start humiliating his minions soon just for fun. The elected Republican officials who dared to question his pardons will have to send out a note on their official letterhead to all their constituents that says "The only good cop is a dead cop." By Valentine's Day, he will force Jeffy Vance to call a press conference, strip nude, and repeat the "I am a false prophet, God is a superstition" speech from There Will Be Blood over and over again at increasing volume until his voice gives out.

This is the hope I have been living with since the devastating election in November. That all that arrogance would yield terrible early moves so early in his presidency that the Rs grow ashamed .... and start putting some distance between himself and them. I predict his ratings will go down by another ten points within two weeks. And then he'll have the American public to battle along with Musk and Bannon and the rest. We fight, we speak at every turn. Perhaps someday Simon will be interviewing disaffected Rs right here. Maga 2.0 people who now at last see some light.

I highly recommend Jen Rubin’s interview with Ruth Ben-Ghiat, an eminent expert on Fascism and authoritarian leaders. Here is the link.

Another highly worthwhile interview at The Contrarian is this conversation between Jen and historian Heather Cox Richardson.

NOTE: The Contrarian was founded just over a week ago, after Jennifer Rubin quit the Bezos-owned Washington Post. Since then, The Contrarian has gained more readers than WaPo has lost since October; more than a quarter of a million people cancelled their WaPo subscription after Jeff Bezos blocked The Post from endorsing Kamala Harris.

So encouraging to see that The Contrarian is off to a flying start!

The smartest analysis I have seen so far is from Ezra Klein and his editor...they rightly point out that the business leaders Trump is courting control the information universe which puts him head and shoulders ahead of the Democrats...why isn't some D official today pointing out that Texas, Louisiana and Florida are facing historic ice storms without any equipment to deal with them...why aren't these Governors being criticized for being unprepared...I am tired if reading stories about Johnson putting conditions on California's relief...money. wonder how the Speaker feels now that his state is in the bull's eye!

"President Trump’s sweeping pardons of more than 1,500 people charged with crimes related to the Capitol riot of Jan. 6, 2021, including individuals who assaulted police officers, stunned Republican lawmakers who witnessed firsthand the chaos on Capitol Hill four years ago."

Not all are stunned. Our now 'senior' senator, Steve Daines, said to a reporter during televised questioning in the hallway of the Senate, that he is 'grateful' to president Trump. I've made repeated calls to his (always courteous) staff expressing my disapproval, but I think Daines' ambition has trumped any allegiance he feels to the American public. Sadly, not unusual in today's GOP.

The Felon has pardoned violent extremists who attacked and killed cops. The Felon has pardoned a violent, international drug runner. And now the FOP and other LE groups who backed him are crying salty tears over his 'betrayal' - that he promised at every campaign rally. Gee. If only somebody had warned them ahead of the election.....

And, of course, it was only a matter of time before a courageous woman, using the message of Jesus no less, is called 'nasty' and 'not very smart' by the nastiest, stupidest man in the country.

The Finding Out phase is going to feel a lot like Karma to MAGA voters.

I am a proud member of the Episcopalian wing of the Opposition. Bishop Mariann’s (quiet) faithful adherence to the essential message of the Second Testament to the face of the Bringer of Lawless Chaos is no less than what believers would expect of an officer in the army of the Prince of Peace. I thank God every day for our ministers who teach us how to speak truth.

I am sad that despite living in California I’m up near Yosemite so the drive to USC would be at least 350 miles. I would love to meet you, Simon, but for now, Zoom will have to do. Yesterday, having cleared my metaphorical decks of metaphorical clutter, I got fiercer about locating the Central Democratic Committee in this blood red county I live in. They seem mostly to still under the influence of aspirin, warm blankets, and Netflix reruns, but I’ll keep prodding. It’s rough up here where the pickup trucks are adorned with MAGA flags, their yard signs remain proudly displayed and carefully tended, and the Republican network still crows in the local news.

Mostly I’m continuing to practice my Spanish lessons and my banjo, two activities I see as authentic expressions of forthright opposition. Pete Seeger lives in my heart. He once said that to learn another language is to see into the soul of another people. Amen.
