Was RFK claiming that germ theory isn't a thing because he's snorted cocaine off toilet seats and he's still alive? That guy must've been broken for decades. We know there's at least one dead parasite in his brain, but we have no idea how many other living parasites might be there affecting his behavior and ability to reason. I wouldn't want to occupy the same space he's in unless I had a hazmat suit on.

I mailed 10 postcards to a school board race in AR. I have 25 more I just started to GA. I just filled in all the addresses. Those are for voter registration and I think (haven't started the script yet) they highlight Ossoff's race. Once again I think I got the correct number of "s" and "f" in his name. I'll have 25 repetitions to burn it in there for good.

Revealed: Clearly RFK Jr was a key consultant for the movie "Train Spotting".

Don't kid yourself, Arctic: If the rest of the world believed as RFK Jr. did, he'd hold contrary views. I don't buy his scientific or medical views as genuine; I buy them as contrary and, in other ways, beneficial to him on a very personal level. Has nothing to do with improving life for the rest of us. I'm sure our beliefs exist to amuse him.

Yes, he is a broken person and probably has been since childhood.

Jenny Ellsworth's avatar

Fascinating suggestion. I think you may be right. I will have to think about that!

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

RFK Jr is not and never has been an ethicist, a thinker, a politician, or a legislator. Yeah, he was a lawyer. Who isn't in his sphere?

What he really is is a kid starving for attention, and the best way to get that is to be "different" and take yourself out of the running with others to whom you can be compared.

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

That being said, I had sort of hoped he would somewhat redeem himself by pursuing in earnest the talking point about removing the ad nauseam pharmaceutical spots from the public airwaves. I would have applauded him for that.

Jenny Ellsworth's avatar

I recognized immediately that what you said rang true. I just have to think about the implications for the larger context, because it honestly hadn’t occurred to me to model him that way in my head.

My dad was smart but he clearly had a bad case of orthorexia, thought big pharma was trying to silence him, thought there were conspiracies to hide the truth about nutrition, was an antivaxxer, believed in Vitamin C as a cure-all. It was very difficult for me to deal with that, and I had kind of modeled RFK Jr that way. But since you mention it, my dad was also determined to take the contrary position on basically everything. Now I wonder if those go together.

It was a very insightful thing to say.

Junior622's avatar

RFK JR took grandkids swimming in a 'POND' posted to contain SEWAGE: FECES then argued his IRRATIONAL GERM THEORY. Anyone who has paid attention to RFK JR's brain dead lunacy knows it's gotta be the DEAD BRAIN WORM!

There is ABSOLUTELY NO ONE AS WARPED, INCOMPETENT & UNQUALIFIED as RFK JR!

RFK JR has made + $10 MILLION from his ANTI-VAX ORGANIZATION!

RFK JR & SNAKE OIL SALESMAN DR. OZ were approved by MAGA DIMWITS!

WHEN YOU VOTE REMEMBER THAT!

Yeah I know about the swimming in sewage. It's just hard to believe we have someone who swims in sewage, uses heroin, eats random road kill, and snorts coke off of toilet seats as DHS secretary. Someone like that is a danger to themselves and others. He shouldn't be in any area of government unless it's under observation in an institution.

But as Secretary of Health this guy?

Junior622's avatar

That's only a small portion of RFK JR's history!

What's more baffling is those who supported him...are they so uninformed? stupid?

RFK JR posted a BOGUS REPORT that included misinformation, bad links, false information and was ever too lazy to check the links - he wouldn't have been dropped from any credible scientific source for just that crap!

RFK JR gathered food industry folks to address ADDITIVES except he was too STUPID to look them up!

One additive is a B VITAMIN used for coloring.

The other was SEAWEED used for thickening.

RFK JR is so brain dead, he couldn't pronounce either!

RFK JR has ignored ANTIBIOTICS in food that PEW has endlessly reported -it causes antibiuotics to become resistant.

RFK JR promoted UNPASTEURIZED MILK from a DAIRY that had cows test postitive for AVIAN FLU.

MILK IS PASTEURIZED FOR REASONS & has a long history!

RFK JR convinced too many to stop fluoridating public drinking water with no scientific evidence.

TOO MANY STUPID PEOPLE FOLLOWING A STUPID CLOWN LIKE RFK JR JEOPARDIZES PUBLIC HEALTH!

There has been a great deal of SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION released about the health risks of abandoning the POLIO VACCINE!

POLIO has a LONG INCUBATION PERIOD during which a person is ASYMPTOMATIC but CONTAGIOUS! THEY SPREAD THE DISEASE!

In NYC, POLIO was detected in WASTE WATER.

WE CAN'T AFFORD TO BE STUPID!

Not a pond, Rock Creek in DC [I recognized the signage]. But yes.

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

Yes, I recall the story about that citing Rock Creek (Park). Of course, because it's very public and visible. If no one sees it, if no one writes about it, if it's not displayed or communicated for public consumption, what good is it?

Junior622's avatar

I am unfamiliar with the area, but reports indicated that it was POSTED!

“…without a deal to reform DHS/ICE, tonight DHS will run out of money.”

Simon, am I correct in assuming that ICE just continues its outrageous operations full-throttle, given the tens of billions of extra dollars they were allocated in Trump’s Big Ugly Bill?

Deborah Potter's avatar

Some thoughts while waiting to hear from Simon:

Shutting down DHS is a huge win for Democrats and our Democracy. ICE is responsible for the shutdown due to their lawlessness and disregard for humanity.

PBS reported that "The funding lapse affects the Department of Homeland Security and its constellation of agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Secret Service and the Federal Emergency Management Agency."

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/what-services-are-affected-by-the-homeland-security-shutdown-what-you-need-to-know

and this from The Hill

https://thehill.com/newsletters/morning-report/5736902-funding-lapse-dhs-shutdown/

ArcticStones's avatar

I can easily envisage Trump deeming everyone in DHS as “essential” – except FEMA and the TSA. Just to satisfy his rage and vindictiveness against Democrats, specifically, and against Americans more generally.

The BIG BEAUTIFUL DISASTER included TAX CUTS FOR THE WEALTHY, MASSIVE CUTS TO HEALTHCARE and OUTRAGEOUS FUNDING FOR ICE GESTAPO!

THAT NEEDS TO BE SLASHED!

ICE GESTAPO recuits - NO BACKGROUND CHECKS OF THUGS, outrageous hiring bonuses, outrageous pay for LOSERS who can't work elsewhere.

GIVE 'EM MASKS, GUNS, PEPPER SPRAY, BEAR SPRAY, FLASH BANGS, TEAR GAS, RUBBER BULLETS & other undisclosed weapons....you got yourself TRUMP'S LAWLESS INVASION!

ICE GESTAPO have injured, assaulted, attacked, detained US CITIZENS, DETAINED CHILDREN, INJURED A PREGNANT WOMAN, CRASHED INTO VEHICLES, DETAINED & INJURED INNOCENT PROTESTERS, USED SNIPERS ON ROOFS TO TARGET PROTESTERS...LOOK UP THE RACETRACK TERRORISM.

if you're unfamiliar, look up STATUS COUP videos on YOU TUBE that documents ICE GESTAPO TERRORISM.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ICE GESTAPO IS SIGNING LONG TERM LEASES FOR WAREHOUSE FACILITIES TO DETAIN MORE PEOPLE UNDER INHUMANE CONDITIONS REFUSING OVERSIGHT.

ICE GESTAPO DEATHS IN THEIR 'FACILITIES' ARE ESCALATING - NO INDEPENTENT FOREENSIC REPORTS!

ICE GESTAPO EMPLOY BANNED CHOKEHOLDS.

They deny access to attorneys & families.

TRUMP fired IMMIGRATION JUDGES to deny fair hearings.

THIS IS AN OUT OF CONTROL bunch of THUGS targeting EVERYONE!

ALL FUNDING NEEDS TO BE RESCINDED!

Jenny Ellsworth's avatar

No need to shout. We can hear you.

Kate Feldman's avatar

We need to support ALL efforts in every community where a detention center is being bought and/or outfitted. Communities are protesting and it's working but I be they need help. Simon posted a map of where they are.

Patrick's avatar

I heard they have operating money to continue for some time. I think I heard an estimate, but I don't remember specifically. It was months. Not weeks. So I think they run full throttle for awhile.

ArcticStones's avatar

“Years” is what I think I recall hearing.

Patrick's avatar

Maybe... I thought otherwise but I could easily be wrong.

⚖️ 🗽 Hegseth must be removed from office for violating the Constitutional Rights of Senator Mark Kelly, as determined by Judge Leon. Try Hegseth, court martial Hegseth and imprison him too. 🗽⚖️

Patrick's avatar

Impeach him first. Return him to active duty. Demote him. Then Courts Martial his ass yeah.

Or just impeach him then try him in a civilian court might be preferable.

Deborah Potter's avatar

A military officer can be reduced to the lowest enlisted grade (E-1) through a court-martial, and also confined in a military prison. It is a fitting humiliation.

Patrick's avatar

You make a good case. Having him in a prison run by the Department of DEFENSE does seem rather fitting.

Deborah Potter's avatar

Although I think it is reserved for active duty military members, so Hegseth would have to be called to active duty, just as he threatened Senator Kelly. That seems fitting too.

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

I'd put him on latrine duty.

ArcticStones's avatar

Imho, Pete Hegseth should be court-martialed. And then sent on “a mandatory decade-long field study of CECOT,” the notorious El Salvador megaprison.

John Raymond's avatar

The person in charge of America's health care: "I used to snort cocaine off toilet seats" as proof that germ theory isn't proven because he didn't get sick. But he is sick. It would make a great campaign ad: This is who President Trump nominated, and this is the Republican incumbent candidate for Senate that approved his nomination. Every Republican senator except Mitch McConnell voted to confirm him. Here's looking at you, especially, Susan Collins, John Cornyn, and Bill Cassidy. Democrats in the House need to get behind Representative Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) and her articles of impeachment, signing on to a discharge petition. And Democrats in the Senate need to sign on to a statement that if impeachment reaches them, they will vote to convict and remove. And then there's measles and everything else.

Gentle suggestion from Minneapolis: can we refer to the end of metro surge as something that has been announced rather than something that is definitely going to happen? (And encourage others to do the same?) It’s a possibility that this was a PR stunt for the DHS funding, and also a possibility that they’ll “change their minds,” or change tactics.

People are still being abducted and schools were terrorized again this morning and we’re all concerned that no one’s looking anymore. Thank you so much all! Keep those calls going, and make sure reps everywhere understand.

Patrick's avatar

It is a good point. They claim to have drawn down the numbers. But the tactics are just goon squad as before. More diffuse, less splashy, but just as bad.

I think the Democrats should really insist the CBP agents go back to the border where they belong. Everything I've heard suggests these guys are the worst goons. They are used to operating at the border with non citizens. Guys who have been a long time with ICE at least have experience operating in cities. They are all goons but I think CBP is likely the worst.

kitkatmia's avatar

is border patrol gone from minneapolis? and just ice remaining?

Anne Bear's avatar

Everyone’s still here, and super active.

Kate Feldman's avatar

Yes let's not pretend the terror isn't still going on just because there is an announcement they aer leaving. All TIm Walz says is "we're cautiously optimistic". I'd put the emphasis on cautious. Thanks Anne for keeping us on our toes.

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

You need not convince me, Anne Bear. When Tom Homan opens his mush mouth and mumbles, I don't hear truth; I hear the sounds of cash registers and ATMs spitting out dollars.

The proof is in the proverbial pudding, and I've heard from others what you are writing.

Sending you NYC good vibes, concern, and admiration.

Simon, my understanding is that the big ugly bill has already funded ICE for several years so ICE is not running out of money. The battle is to refuse more funding and to try to clawback current funding. So saying ICE will run out of money is incorrect. Please explain.

Kate's avatar

Self report - contacted my reps - reform of ICE, no ICE gulag and Epstein transparency were my main points this week.

Here’s a shout out to the site We the People Dissent.

https://www.wethepeopledissent.net/

It started tracking countrywide - sometimes worldwide - protests a year ago. She has recently updated the map to make the information very accessible.

If you organize a candlelight vigil or an overpass stand out, send her information about it, it will show up on her map and list, and be added to all the other events all over the country.

We are so big - we can’t all be in DC for one massive event. It’s my hope that a site like this, if widely viewed - can help to knit us together.

For those interested, Jerry Nadler communicated the following to his NYC constituents this morning: New York City Project Wins in Funding Bill

Dear Friends,

Last week, six appropriations bills were combined into one, including funding for the Department of Homeland Security. While I supported many of the provisions of the various funding bills, I could not in good conscience vote to give one more penny to ICE. I, therefore, voted against the bill.

However, I wanted to let you know about several provisions of the bill that provide direct funding to New York City. I worked hard to get these projects into the bill, and they will greatly improve the lives of New Yorkers. They will improve accessibility, preserve history, upgrade affordable housing, and modernize our parks across Manhattan. I am proud to have fought for and secured this funding, especially at a time when the Trump Administration threatens New York at every turn.

map of ny12 with cps requests

The bill includes ten Community Project Funding requests. They are:

$250,000 to modernize the Roosevelt Island Tram through structural upgrades, improved accessibility features, and enhanced safety systems, ensuring continued reliable transit service.

$500,000 to revitalize play spaces and outdoor learning areas at the Joan of Arc Educational Complex, thereby enhancing the educational and recreational infrastructure for students and neighborhood families.

$850,000 to repair and improve pedestrian pathways throughout Central Park, enhancing safety, accessibility, and infrastructure resilience in one of the nation’s most visited public parks.

$850,000 to reconstruct and modernize Seabury Playground, addressing safety and accessibility issues to create a resilient, inclusive recreational space for Upper East Side families.

$850,000 to construct a new ADA-accessible entrance at West 16th Street, ensuring equitable access to the High Line for all visitors and enhancing mobility at a major public park and cultural destination.

$850,000 to rehabilitate restroom facilities across Hudson River Park, improving cleanliness, safety, and accessibility for millions of annual park visitors.

$1,200,000 to replace outdated elevators at the Harborview Terrace NYCHA complex. This upgrade is essential to ensure safe, accessible, and reliable service for residents, especially seniors and individuals with disabilities.

$2,000,000 to renovate Ralph Bunche Park to improve accessibility, safety, and usability. The renovation will create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for residents, workers, and visitors in Midtown East.

$2,000,000 to upgrade and preserve affordable housing at the Thomas Apartments. Planned improvements include modernization of critical building systems, enhanced living conditions, and preservation of long-term affordability for low-income residents.

$3,150,000 to restore and preserve the historic Swedish Cottage in Central Park. The revitalization includes improving the building's accessibility and modernizing its electrical wiring.

More information about FY2026 Community Project Funding requests can be found here.

Sincerely,

I can always count on Bobby Kennedy Jr to create a face palm moment for me. He’s done so many terrible consequential things I should focus on, but I just keep returning in my mind to that idiotic video of him and Pete Hegseth working out together, and their dick measuring contest about who can do the most pull-ups. And as stupid as this is for me to focus on, I just keep returning to this… RFK is wearing jeans… Who the hell wears jeans to the gym?! This guy is such a kook. I promise to return to substantive comments in the future, but right now I need to do some day drinking. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Deborah Potter's avatar

Germ? That's not a scientific term! That Kennedy fool must mean infectious agents including microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, some fungi, or protozoa; or macro-organisms like his brain worm and other parasites. And does he not see a relationship between the climate crisis and human health? Arg !

Everything these lying morons from the trump world say reminds me of the classic Dead Parrot sketch from Monty Python.

Their steadfast denials of reality are as stupidly absurd as Michael Palin’s claims about the dead parrot (“he’s pining”; “beautiful plumage!”) but without the charm.

Jenny Ellsworth's avatar

I think one action we can take for science on March 7 is to contact our electeds and ask if they think the germ theory of disease is true. Maybe use their webform instead of calling, so we can say we want a response.

My stupid rep will say that of course she accepts all science that has been adequately studied but that vaccines haven’t been, or some such lie. Republicans never answer questions, they just change the subject like they are shooting squid ink. But if enough people asked that, maybe they would realize it is an actual issue for voters.
