One of our members posted recently about flying Old Glory on Memorial Day. She was adamantly against the upside down position of the flag (at least on this day), felt we should fly the flag as it was intended by those who fought and died for our country. Personally I agree with this. In my view, supine posture is a sign of submission, at least in the natural world - not a message of strength. I recognize others may have a different view, so we will likely see it flown both ways on the 4th.
I have to pace myself having just turned 74 and not in the best of health.
But my husband and I have become involved with Indivisible here in Kalamazoo Michigan. And we are gearing up for the No Kings protest on June 14th. Have a good weekend Simon.đŸ‡ºđŸ‡¸
A great speech! Future-Speaker Hakeem Jeffries brings the receipts, listing the Americans who will die or be far worse off so the rich can have. And Jeffries reviews history to underscore which party – not theirs – is the party of fiscal responsibility. Utterly damning!
PS. Simple question: Where the hell is the AARP?? It’s not fighting for its members. Seems instead like it’s tiptoeing around Trump and the Republican agenda.
In the spirit of enjoyment, we are headed to a minor league baseball game - Mets farm team taking on the Phils farm team. No contest, friends...
I have stacks of postcards to write and am heartened that Hopium folx will be helping us out here in the Garden State. We are being overrun w signs for MAGA Jack Ciattarelli for governor (I continue to be disappointed by how many of my fellow Italian Americans have reverted to Mussolini's version of what government ought to be), and ex-guv Christie is Nowhere To Be Found, having been excommunicated from the cult. UGH.
I am going to spend the weekend sharing out some nuggets from the Suicide Pact, heeding Ben Wikler's advice to get the info out to voters NOW.
Hi Simon and friends - I was so sorry to hear about Tug, Simon. The day I lost my 16 year old dog-pound friend was one of the worst days of my life. Get another pal when you're ready. Life is short.
I hope everyone enjoys their weekend. Let's all remember that Trump doesn't have an enjoyable life and doesn't know what joy feels like because his life is entirely transactional and full of bile and retribution and taking advantage. It's an ugly, sad, pitiful life. I'm very thankful for this community! Kent
Kind words. I agree, anyone who rains down such misery on others must be miserable himself. To the extent possible, let's let him wallow in it on his own.
The Tesla protest in Dedham MA had almost 100 people again today, despite sometimes-rainy-chilly weather. One elderly protester had her sign in a plastic menu cover (brilliant!). The crowd was full of questions and comparing notes about June 6 (No Kings on D-Day) in Boston, and June 14 (different times in Boston, Brookline, Newton, Natick, Walpole... lots of options). Some of the regular Tesla protesters are also doing visibility brigade actions. Good to know; another action to amplify and expand. Chatting at the protest has been a great source of info.
Summer component of my weekend will be getting my herb pots going.
Difficult component of my weekend will include more reading and listening to interviews from reversing democratic backsliding research. Crucial info that puts a larger frame on the regime's actions and our actions. I have to repeat to myself the mantra I tell our group members - this isn't about optimism or pessimism; it's about persistence or giving up/handing it all over. So, we'll be persistent.
Enjoy your weekend, Simon! Beautiful photo, but you're doxxing yourself with the street sign.
Yikes. Its okay. Won't happen again!
Swapped it out online. Thanks for the headsup.
Sign is still visible!
Isn’t it awful that we have to live like this?
I really like #5. And I’m excited about merch. Have a good weekend everyone!
I just caught up with the interview with Michael Mann from several weeks ago. Really great. I’m glad all these interviews are archived.
MERCH! MERCH! MERCH!
Enjoy your much deserved weekend unplugged....

Simon, put the web address on the merchandise. I like the design.
Simon was giving us a preview, I don't think it is available yet.
Is it blue? I do hope there is (are) color(s) other than black.
@ hopium we are true patriots, worker bees and informed americans! enjoy the baseball and weekend everyone!
While you were at the Nats / Giants game we were watching it from NoCal. Which meant I would have been happy no matter which team won. đŸ¤“
Have a great weekend, Simon. The question I have about the 4th is do we fly our flags upside down? Maybe u can address that next week.

Thanks, Simon! Love your picture of the garden, but you probably want to blur the street sign. Go, Nats!
Just watched this. It is really worth watching: Hakeem Jeffries Brings The House Down With Epic Takedown Of GOP's Big Beautiful Bill!

I am sharing this on Bluesky and other social media. Hope you will too!
Thank you Ali, I appreciate seeing this. So glad you posted it!

Perhaps all of us here who are AARP members could contact them and ask?
Wishing our Hopium community a wonderful and patriotic weekend!

Lets Go Mets! says the former Brooklynite.
I’m following Simon into summer, free from Trump’s rope a dope strategy to exhaust us all. No more. Happy Memorial Day and summer.

I feel clueless, but I don't see where the merch designs are. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I think maybe it's just the pic of the t-shirt so far (?). Could be wrong. ("I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken" :) )
It's not June yet, guys. The picture of the t-shirt was a tease....
From Simon's post:
New Merch, More Hopium Live Events, Fall Travel - Hopium Merch is coming in ***June***
That’s a good point right there. đŸ˜€
