Yes, i'd like some information on this. Some people earlier in the day (order the comments Oldest first)asked about Russian interference as well as sophisticated balloting machine interference. I'm hoping Simon has information on the possibility of a hand recount and on what Dem Party people are saying about ballot machine hacking. I posted this to Simon yesterday late in the day and will post it again right now - I'm currently rarely home when Simon first sends out the post of the day, and it seems that's usually when he has time to look at replies -
I appreciate your sentiment, as it is difficult for us all to process. However, I am highly skeptical of any election rigging. I haven't seen any convincing, credible evidence yet-- just hypotheticals that depend on a long chain of things happening. Plus, exit polls, as imperfect as they are, do mostly corroborate the results. Folks are welcome to dig, but I seriously doubt anything on a grand scale will be found.
How do we know that the Russian attack on our election and country, aka the bomb threats, didn’t lose a large number of Democratic votes? Or that voter roll purges and voter “challenges” didn’t make a difference? And while I don’t know anything about Spoonamores (?) claims, he seems to have expertise in this area. Not sure why these things wouldn’t be worth following up on. It is our democracy, the demise of our country and the international rules based order on the line.
But for Russian psyops we wudda won. The "other" are Russians, their agents and willing idiots.
There are also allegations that we were screwed. Greg Palast says 2.7 million votes disappeared. Also tech evidence.Stephen Spoonamore, who was CEO or CTO at seven high technology firms including two that specialized in hacking and counter-hacking operations. He wrote a memo alleging that to "a near certainty" the results have been changed at a scale which reversed the election. He recommends a hand recount to most likely require reversal. He cites to a letter from 7 experts in computer science who go into detail. https://freespeechforpeople.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/letter-to-vp-harris-111324.pdf
IMHO it’s the elephant in the room that nobody seems to be talking about. I have no idea why. The Kremlin BRAGGED about their plans to meddle ! and they did it already in 2016 and Bill Barr hid it from us.
Let me quote a detailed comment to Spoonamore that is quite striking. [For the sake of clarity, I have added a few paragraph breaks.]:
"As an election mathematical analyst for the past 12 years, the methodology that Mr. Spoonamoore has created for finding "Bullet Ballots",( # Trump votes minus # downballot race votes/ # Trump votes) does NOT, in the vast majority of cases, represent the number of "bullet ballots." It is, however, a sum of multiple voter preference nuances. I can show you raw sample data from an exit poll in Arizona that can better explain.
"Additionally, many independents do not vote for Party as do 95% of Republican and Democrats and they often vote, for example, Trump for President and a Democrat for downballot races (and vice-versa). North Carolina has a huge independent base that supported Trump, which highly likely why NC has such a large numbers of "Bullet Ballots".
"The BEST indicator for "Bullet Ballots" is to look at the "undervotes" for downballot races, which literally signifies how many ballots did not cast a vote for a particular race.
"I have pulled data from 2020 and now 2024 by state and compared OVERALL voters of Presidential and US Senate races to find the percentage of undervotes is nearly identical from 2020 to 2024. FYI- that percentage of undervotes is usually around 1% between President to US Senate but, again, can vary depending on many nuances.
"If you'd like to discuss further, please comment thanks."
The bomb threats against polling sites, especially those favored by voters of minority background, have received far too little media attention. From what I understand, it’s clear those bomb threats originated from Russia.
If voters were wary of the "other" it was because Russia and a complying media and Republican proaganda targeted visceral voters. To me the "other" is Russia.
From Time Magazine:
The FBI said in a statement it was aware of the threats, many of which originated from Russian email domains, but the agency also downplayed their risk. “None of the threats have been determined to be credible thus far,” the statement said.
In Pennsylvania, a polling place in West Chester was evacuated because of a threat, according to Josh Maxwell, chair of the Chester County Board of Elections. The Government Services Center was searched by dogs, and voters at the two polling stations in the center were redirected to neighboring polling places that extended their voting hours to accommodate them.
A Pennsylvania judge also granted a motion to extend voting in Clearfield County, northeast of Pittsburgh, after a bomb threat targeted an administrative building where votes were being counted, according to the Pennsylvania Capital-Star.
In Georgia, several voting locations extended their hours due to bomb threats, according to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger as reported by CNN. “We identify the source that it was from Russia,” he said in an earlier press conference.
Officials in DeKalb County, where five polling places suspended voting due to bomb threats, said no bombs were found, and voters were able to re-enter the polling booths and vote.
Fulton County Police Chief W. Wade Yates said that out of 177 polling places in the county, 32 faced bomb threats, and five required evacuation and had their hours extended as a result. Yates said authorities intend to prosecute those who made the threats.
Officials in Wisconsin and Michigan also confirmed bomb threats in several polling locations in the state, according to ABC7 Chicago. And Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes said Tuesday that four locations in Navajo County faced bomb threats that federal and state authorities dismissed as “not credible.” Fontes said the threats came from emails with Russian domains, and that the motive looks to be to “ensue chaos” and not to “impact any political outcome.”
Yes, and there is a question as to whether the evacuations, shut down and reboot of election computers create the conditions for a certain type of hack to happen. This is only what others have said. I know nothing about such things myself, but what harm does it do to examine computers at the sites where bomb threats occurred?
Thank you for posting this. Imagine letting Trump destroy our country because some people are too afraid to be called "conspiracy theorists." We're not talking "theory." We're talking about recounts, forensic analysis to will prove empirically one way or another. Time is running out. I feel do desperate. This is what makes me desperate. If the Democratic Party won't take this seriously why do I want to be an activist for them. I'm one of the people who tried to leave it all on the field and to fail to do the same at the leadership level is beyond my comprehension, bit I feel betrayed.
A grandson-in-law said that the notion of "total immunity for police" would have grabbed the attention of his friends and colleagues more than anything else and may have gotten them to the polls.
Simon, one thing that would be really helpful to us "boots on the ground foot soldiers" as we move forward is to decide if "what we've been doing all along" is the best use of our time, and if not, what is? Is our weekly gathering of phoning, texting, and postcarding productive? (we've been doing it almost every week since late 2016/early 2017). Its better than doing *nothing*, of course, but there are so many people who feel like we are just insanely doing the same thing over and over again and "hoping for" different results. I watched the video on NC, it sounds like MONEY is what worked there, maybe also door knocking. If the rest of it wasn't productive, what IS the best thing we can do on a weekly basis when we gather? Its so easy to say "keep it up" but there's a frustration because we want to do things, but we don't want to do things for the "sake" of doing them or "feeling like" we are fighting the good fight. We want to do things that we know will have an impact and I think we feel at sea about what that is
My first post ever. I am in total agreement with what you are saying and look forward to finding real solutions, real actions, not just asking for money so others can do something. Thank you
I wasn't a member of the Hopium family during the election, Simon, but I felt that my time reaching out to voters across 8 states was worth the effort. I'm glad that you're continuing the good fight and that you're encouraging us never to give up. May the good win out and may we bring about the country we all strive for.
The question I've been asking recently is what does it mean to "have a conversation"? How do we as a party go from a whole bunch of thoughts about what we need to do to ACTUALLY doing something? Is it a big convening like NOW in 1966? How do we "get everyone in a room" and figure this out sooner rather than later. I, for one, don't want to look in the rear view mirror in 2026 and see that a bunch of political analysts talked a lot and Democratic leadership (hopefully younger and more visionary) did nothing.
Paul (in Puerto Vallarta, MX): What are we to make of the repetitive requests for more pesos from the Harris campaign - and from others on a diminishing scale? It's beginning to feel abusive, honestly.
Today I sent this message to Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury (NM CD-1). She would be a great Opposition Leader in the House.
Congresswoman Stansbury, I am asking you to be an Information Warrior about the accomplishments of the Democratic Party and to stand in Opposition to the appointments and agenda of the new administration. We must ferociously oppose the most outrageous of the cabinet nominations at every opportunity and build a national campaign to bring other Americans to join us. We need Congressional Democrats to become very loud to drown out the continuous disinformation from the right. Take immigration for example. Republicans rejected our deportation prioritization of criminals in House legislation. trump did NOT prioritize criminals in his previous administration. Therefore, it is unreasonable to imagine that they will do so now. Instead, expect a return to brutal tactics like family separation and detention/deportation of any undocumented migrant, especially in states like FL and TX.
We Oppose Tulsi Gabbard who is a Russian propagandist and therefore unfit for Director of National Intelligence. We Oppose Pete Hegseth who was selected for being a Fox News host and a Christian nationalist. He lacks the qualities and experience we need in our Defense Secretary. We Oppose Matt Gaetz who has been accused of illicit and potentially illegal behavior by members of the House, and does not have the character or experience for Attorney General. We Oppose Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as health secretary because he promotes vaccine misinformation and other medical misinformation. Subsequent policies will undermine the public health system of the United States and threaten our educational system as more students in the public schools are left unvaccinated.
Those are good talking points, Deborah. I contacted (by phone) my senators and representative yesterday and demanded that they vote against HR 9495 (Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act) and to confirm President Biden's remaining judges. I will now need to draft messages to them about rejecting the cabinet picks and why they must. Thanks!
If you want to stop H.R. 9495 from passing, please contact your representatives right now and urge them to vote NO!
I wrote the following to Senator John Thune, the new Senate majority leader. He has the power to block cabinet appointments at both the committee level and on the Senate floor. Trump opposed his election as majority leader and tried to find a primary opponent in 2022. He has reasons to stand up to the President-elect.
Donald Trump as the newly elected President has the power to choose his cabinet. The Senate has the constitutional authority to approve or disapprove of his choices. When the potential appointees do not have the necessary experience and background for the positions they were nominated it is the Senate’s obligation to refuse to confirm them.
Matt Gaetz - Subject of a completed House ethics committee investigation regarding sexual improprieties.
Pete Hegseth - No significant experience in defense policy. Alleged sexual impropriety.
Tulsi Gabbard - No significant intelligence experience. Alleged links to Russian intelligence.
None of these three individuals could pass a routine security check which is why President-elect is bypassing the FBI.
Robert Kennedy Jr. - Views well outside the scientific and medical mainstream.
The Senate also must prevent the incoming President from making a recess appointment by remaining in pro forma session. As the incoming Majority Leader it is your responsibility to assure
the American public that there will be competent leadership in the executive branch.
Feel free to modify the above and send to your friends. These nominees must be stopped.
Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for, and I will use this to follow up with Thune, and then modify it to send to Majority Leader Shumer and my 2 DEM Senators.
My two cents on "felon". It did not land, or resonate. We have a prison nation where we over felonize. CA just voted to make even more theft offenses felonies. Bad move. In my mind, his misdemeanors themselves were bad enough b/c they were FRAUD. Fraud misdemeanors are far more serious in late, in licensing, in the workplace, than felonies. This is true regardless whether you hold a real estate or law license, or want to take care of an elderly person in their home. The frameworks allow you to explain a felony, but not fraud misdemeanors. To slap a label on a bunch of people of "felon" is dehumanizing and a lot of voters have felonies, I talked to them in MI. Also people on this thread have felonies. The "34" all stemmed from the same transaction. To me, the fraud transactions were enough, regardless if it was 1 or 34x. So we need to stop using "felon". There is soooooo m much more. Even his civil adjudications are worse than the felonies. We had to sell that the migrant pain in short lived, we need to give them work permits, and yes, the Chicago neighborhood that was complaining that it needed investment, not migrants. True. Simon, I believe the effective propaganda is being underappreciated. Fox News is propaganda. There is Russian propaganda. People are being brainwashed in this country. What do we do about that?
You’re right. WaPo published a very good piece by Josh Dawsey and Michael Scherer about the ads targeting specific groups to de-motivate them from voting—e.g. Muslims in Michigan. And Timothy Snyder here on Substack published “The Phantom Campaign” about this subject. It’s complicated to draw conclusions about what our party should do next knowing that these ads probably played a role in how people voted or didn’t vote.

Thanks all!
They don’t listen. Ask me how I know. They don’t seem to have to listen. They do what they bloody well want to do.
I'm a former North Carolina resident and UNC grad now living in Va. I sent nasty emails about this to the NC House speaker and Senate president, Tim.Moore@ncleg.gov and Phil.Berger@ncleg.gov. These assholes have got to hear from people besides their own MAGA voters. Here's some info about this outrageous GOP power grab: https://cardinalpine.com/2024/11/19/weeks-before-they-lose-their-supermajority-nc-republicans-try-to-take-power-from-democrats-who-won-in-november/?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Cardinal%2011.20.24&utm_term=Cardinal%20and%20Pine%20-%20Most%20Engaged%20Audience
Simon, what about the voter suppression? What about the purges of voter rolls that the Republicans continue to do right up until the election?
See Dr Timothy Snyder's Substack, YES!
