"Getting Louder" in the Washington Post
Greg Sargent gives a nod to our work on challenging the right's information superiority
Greg Sargent has just posted a terrific new piece on the Fox revelations, “Finally, Democrats Appear Ready to Wage War on Fox News.” I was pleased to be able get in a pitch for our “Get Louder” strategy:
Similarly, strategist Simon Rosenberg is urging fellow Democrats to confront Fox News’s mythmaking by “getting loud” themselves, to displace right-wing agitprop with Democrats’ own media-conscious messaging and theater.
The link Greg uses here goes to the video below where I go into greater depth about the need for Democrats to get louder, become “information warriors” and more aggressively challenge the right’s clear information superiority. I talk further about how we have to think about Fox now in a new substack post and in a series of threads on Twitter which have gotten millions of views in the past few days.
This is a big moment for US politics - the curtain has been pulled back on Fox, and there is no going back. While they will continue to pretend they are a news organization, the rest of us no longer have to. We no longer have to “obey in advance” as fellow Substacker Timothy Snyder warns us in his seminal book, “On Tyranny.” It is time for all of to recognize just how badly the right has poisoned and controlled our daily discourse, and to free ourselves from their dark grip, their unrelenting pessimism and negative sentiment. These Fox revelations are an important moment in that journey. It is time to begin the process of “going home,” and get ourselves from Oz back to Kansas. It’s time people.
