That Aftyn Behn video is a winner! Really. Am donating in thanks for her and for you, Simon. I don't know how I would have made it through this year without you - so so grateful for your compassion, leadership and STRENGTH. A very happy Thanksgiving to you and your family - stuffing, yum!
Dear Simon and Hopium friends - I am also thankful for you, Simon, and Hopium for helping to keep me hopeful and forward looking this year. I think I've mentioned that I had both knees replaced this year, so I have been a paper tiger all year, unable to get out a protest or be visible in my community. I'm still rehabbing the second knee, which has been more stubborn than the first, but I am looking forward to helping my community understand how strong we are together this year. I'm thankful for my Senators Durbin and Duckworth, who have both stood up in their own ways against the regime. The next year is going to be a very consequential one for the Dems and I'm happy to be in the fight however I can. Much appreciation for all of you!
A belated report on my own activities. I was too lazy to post before. I attended several No Kings protests throughout the year. Others did far more, but every bit helps
I donated to Aftyn as well and sent the link to my brother, who said he feels “overwhelmed “ and wants to wait until after the holidays to think about it…so I just sent him the link and explained I was making it easy for him. He has enough $$ to make a difference!
Also, I LOVE that you shared the quote from the FDR Memorial, Simon. I’ll never forget the first time I visited it, which was during the George W. Bush admin when we were deeply into the Iraq War and times were pretty dark around here…I wept freely as I walked around and saw all of those profound quotes about making our country one that cared for the hungry and the common man…
That presidency led us to Obama, who in some ways was a disappointment to me, in others was truly inspiring…I felt his tendency to enter negotiations w Repubs already offering to give away half of what he would have wanted never made much sense…but then, negotiating w McConnell’s team was pretty tough…
And now we have Trump 2, the deranged, moronic, evil one who is the 1st person to make Dick Cheney seem slightly less like Darth Vader, which is a feat in and of itself.
As my dad used to tell me during dark times, our country has been through many, many periods of darkness and challenge and threat, and we can overcome this, too. Today I’m feeling optimistic that we are entering the beginning of the end of Trump’s reign, and I will continue to do everything I can to hasten the day when the lightness returns and we make real changes in our country to make it better…how about Medicare for All, statehood for Puerto Rico and DC, and an expanded Supreme Court, for starters? Sounds good to me!
HCR had a great post today about the history of Thanksgiving and its rebirth as a national day of remembrance and gratitude in the midst of the Civil War. A powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when the forces of freedom act together--even when things look dark and it's too easy to give up. Very thankful to be a member of the Hopium "proud, plucky patriots."
Gorgeous roses at the end of November- what a treat! Happy Thanksgiving to all, to this wonderful community and especially to your amazing, steadfast and exceptional leadership, Simon. My oldest grandson home from college for the first time, so I remember that feeling well. Also from when my three daughters came home - such a special time. Good luck with your turkey and stuffing! Go Aftyn - what a great candidate!!!

Yeah! I read that, too! She always ties in history to contemporary goings-on. Another bright light in these dark times. 😊❤️❤️
