OK I'll look into these new candidates. I've been giving $25/month to the Minnesota DFL. Maybe I'll cancel that and move it here to the new initiative.

Soooooo excited you are promoting Jonathan Nez in Northern AZ !!!!! Yay Hopium!!!! He is a good man. I've written postcards for Mr. Nez. Eli Crane is a Trumper all the way and not good for AZ. Loving all the young faces of the candidates.

Love Elaine Luria! So glad she’s on this list.

Something seems wrong with your candidate count. There are four existing names and eight new profiles, for a total of 12. Your list of new candidates does not include Rebecca Cooke who is profiled and is indeed a great candidate.

I noticed that. Thank you for pointing this out.

Though, he does say that he has added 8 more candidates. It is confusing.

What about . . . former NASA astronaut and retired Air Force Colonel Terry Virts who is running as a Democrat for Congress in Texas. Initially seeking the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate in 2025, Virts switched his bid to run for the Houston-area's 9th Congressional District. Steve Schmidt just endorsed him and had him on his show.

Simon, could you point us to information about how the DCCC chooses candidates to support? The candidates listed seem compelling, and I'll look into them, but we're also hoping to flip a seat here in NJ-07 that's currently held by Republican Tom Kean Jr. There are several people on the Democratic side who are hoping to be nominated through our primary on June 2 (https://www.onenj7.org/democratic-candidates).

Done. Gave what I could. Great to see someone from Dine running in AZ. Badly needed!

Help support these great Democratic candidates.

Please add David Jolly for Florida governors race. He's the best candidate Florida's has had in a long while and momentum is behind him. Florida is winnable but is an expensive state to run campaigns.

What about Fred Wellman in MO-2?

I’m a strong Dem in rural Wisconsin and I’m urging you not to contribute to Rebecca Cooke’s campaign. She’s been defeated twice by Van Orden and the national Democratic Party is forcing her candidacy on us. She does not have a lot of local support, only national. We have a much better candidate running against her in the primary, Emily Berge. I urge you to look at Emily before you contribute to Rebecca Cooke.

We have made our endorsement. I am interested in learning more but the DCCC has been very reticent about endorsing in primaries this cycle so I don't think they would have gotten in without good reason. Also just sharing some data here. In 2024, the only time she ran for Congress, Trump carried WI-3 by 10 points and Cooke only lost by 3. So two points 1) Cooke clearly has local support as she almost won in a very tough cycle in 2024 2) she ran 7 points ahead of the national ticket, which if she were to do that today she would win handily. While I understand you may be supporting Emily Berge please stay respectful of Rebecca Cooke for she is clearly a talented candidate who I am pleased to support.

If Rebecca Cooke wins the primary, I will campaign for her. However, I think it is unfair for endorsements before the primary. So, I also believe giving her more money before the primary is not helpful to our local democratic process. I’m only saying that before the primary, we local folks should have the ability to choose our candidate. We see them up close and personal. If she is the candidate, then please everyone send money!

Thank you Darcy for weighing in here. So my response is that this decision to back a candidate in a primary in a hard one. For the earlier you get resources to a candidate the more likely it is they win. So waiting for long primaries, particularly if the Committee has determined that one is clearly superior (for whatever reason) is hard for it means we are less likely to win. I actually think the DCCC should be being more aggressive about primaries that are clearly leaning one way for Republicans are going to have more money this cycle and we need to get going.

Finally, the party committees are very aware of the kind of backlash that can happen by endorsing in a primary so I assume that given Cooke's strong performance in 2024 and her early strong out of the gate performance this time they rallied for her. It is also just true that candidates who ran and got close are often more ready to go win the second time. Many many Dems in Congress today lost the first time, learned, grew, got better and won on the second try.

Let's keep talking about this and thanks for weighing in here Darcy. Nothing is easy about this business and I just wanted to give you a window into the thinking.
