I put $10/month recurring for Peltola. I'm so glad she is there. She already won statewide, so we can do this.
I would assume someone is suing to stop these blatantly illegal door-to-door ICE actions. This is unacceptable. They seemed to in one case I saw have some kind of a strobe light to interfere with attempts to record the actions.
The science cuts Trump proposed would devastate universities, public and private. This is welcome news if these cuts do not materialize.
If those cuts had gone through, students who want to attend graduate school to study scientific fields, things they've been told their whole lives matter to their country, would've had their applications declined and their goals destroyed.
I am overjoyed, but also furious. Because a ton of damage has already happened. I have two friends who were fired from Duke because of the funding cuts. Neither is in science, and both had been there for over a decade.
My daughter asked me this morning, “When does this all end?” She’s 24. It struck me as a surprisingly vulnerable question at that age. I think we’re all scared, but I can’t imagine what it feels like to be a young adult staring down the possibility of decades of authoritarianism. I could feel the weight of her words.
My answer: “We have to make it to the midterms—and we have to win big. Eleven more months. Unless Republicans somehow regain their sanity before then, we have to hold on and push through the next 11 months.”
So, I'll give whatever I can and do whatever I can to make those next 11 months count.
If it helps (although fully appreciate I’m a complete unknown to you), I went on to reassure my daughter that we will get through this because American is too diverse to be managed by an authoritarian. We’ll win.
"A reminder about the 2026 Senate map and our strategy. We start 3 Senate seats down, and need to win 4 to gain the majority. If hold what we have, and flip ME (tbd), NC (Cooper), and Ohio (Brown) we get to 50. Getting to 51 requires us to win one of Alaska (Peltola), Iowa (tbd), Texas (tbd)."
Don't forget Dan Osborn in Nebraska! He lost narrowly in 2024, 46.7 to 53.3, far outpacing Harris, who lost 59.6-39.1. Dan now knows the state better, has name recognition, has experience campaigning and with media, has a list of volunteers and donors, and is running in a Dem year. He's a working man, a Navy veteran and industrial mechanic. He is an independent and says he will not caucus with either party (a necessity for a non-Republican to win), but will vote with Dems on many issues. He is the best we can hope for in NE. I took an uber to the airport Sunday and had a delightful driver who hailed from North Carolina and now lives in San Francisco. When I told him about Anderson Clayton and her amazing leadership of the Democratic Party there, he was overjoyed 😊
Thank you Simon for getting a link to Mary's ActBlue fundraising up so quickly. I much prefer to contribute to campaigns through your links to demonstrate your influence. (Yes, I just donated $75). As horrified as we are by all of this, we need to remember that extreme hardships the Ukrainians are going through to defend their democracy. We can do this!
How can ICE be held accountable? What legal mechanisms exist to hold them to account for their criminal and unconstitutional behavior? How their funding be pulled? I have already called my representatives but I don’t know what tools are at their disposal to demand that ICE be accountable to the law.
Just gave my first small gift of this cycle to Peltola. More to come (just a few more days before the window for 2025 est tax payments closes).

Thanks for getting this up so quickly, let’s give Mary Peltola a big first day. Donated to her through the Hopium link just now
That ad from Peltola is excellent.

That sucks. Were they tenured? I haven't heard anything from Duke about cuts but likely I would miss it if it wasn't in science.

I'm 43 and stuck with the same feeling.
Understand. Hang in there and keep fighting.

Just donated as an action to pair with yesterday's vision!
Just contributed to Mary's campaign.

Let’s all enjoy Simon’s happy post! I will be donating to Mary Peltola!!!
Simon, thank you for the encouraging news. I sent Mary Peltola a small donation via your link. I'd love to take the Senate, as well as the House!
Just donated what I could to Mary Peltola! I believe in her and think she'll be an excellent senator for Alaska.
I'm thrilled Mary Peltola has joined the race. I supported her Congressional campaign in 2022, and I can tell you that she is truly charismatic.
Simon, I hope you can arrange an interview with her.
Working on it!
I forgot to mention: thanks for the volunteer link. I signed up.
