On Russia that is smoke and mirrors. Putin told trump over 10 days ago that he was launching a 60 day offensive. Guess what 50 more days allows him to complete that. DUH! Putin is still in the driver's seat and of course Trumpis selling armaments to NATO to give to UKRAINE but selling not donating or contributing. Still MTG is up in arms. She is an isolationist etc. Russia still is in control. Sanctions should be now and should be harsh. What you bet in 50 days he will TACO about sanctions. Too little too late at that point any way.
I sent emails last night to my AZ governor and state AG encouraging bills to be passed so that ICE cannot roam the streets with masks, no proper identification and accompanying uniforms when they are interacting with the public. Simon did a very good interview with AZ AG Kris Mayes. I'm proud that she has joined with other democrat AG's in fighting the extreme agenda in the current regime. Now back to calls to my senators and congressional rep.
I emailed my Congresspeople last night about tariffs. My senior Senator, Chuck Grassley, is the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, so today he will hear from me about Emil Bove. Meanwhile, I keep writing postcards to VA every day.
I called Senator Alsobrooks to ask her to get loud about taking away Trump's tariff "authority." I called Senator Van Hollen and thanked him for his amendment on the Epstein files and to ask him to get loud about taking away Trump's tariff "authority." I called Congressman Raskin and thanked him for staying out in front on the Epstein issue. Today I'm writing postcards to Virginia voters.
Self report: Called my Congressperson and 2 Senators to support bipartisan legislation to STOP these illegal tariffs from happening through the Trade Review Act of 2025 👍🏻. I also offered support to my Congressional Rep in her ongoing efforts to preserve the Dept of Education. She has been stalwart in this effort for many years, as she was an educator prior to her political career. It’s incredibly sad that the Dept of Education is viewed as unworthy of existing in our current Party of Fascism occupying the WH.
My daughter has huge student loan debt from college and medical school. She’s only just now going to be getting a good salary. She’s been paying based on % of income (which so far hasn’t been very much). She’s was counting on loan forgiveness after 10 years. Now that is gone. She will be paying this thing probably for most of her life.
Last night I attended my first Mikie Sherrill organizing event. She has an excellent, seasoned team of folks, some of whom have been w her since her 2018 run to unseat a longtime R in NJ11. They are doing door knocking and recruiting volunteers by phone as of now. I really hope they do more relational organizing training w an emphasis on social media. She has done great on the campaign trail and is excellent on socials and news coverage. I am very optimistic about this campaign, and I think supporting the coordinated campaign - support for entire D ticket - is the key in this election cycle. Turnout was good in the primary, but we need to ensure huge D turnout as well as significant support from unaffiliated voters (there are more of those than registered Rs in NJ).
Side note: NJ Dems need to find a good candidate to replace Sherrill in the House. Gov. Murphy will appoint someone in the meantime, and there will be a special election, but that's a tough district.
On Thursday, I will be joining a postcard party to write to unregistered voters, and a candlelight march to the boardwalk afterward to honor the late, great John Lewis.
Rumor has it Tom Malinowski is angling for Sherrill’s seat if she wins. Glad to hear she’s on it. She must win and I believe that will require inspiring the young progressives who came out for Baraka and Fulop in the primaries.
I really enjoyed your conversation with Tara McGowan, she is right, with all the data work she is doing sounds good to me. I hope the democrats in the main office are listening .We have got to frame our message so folks that are not on board with the Democratic Party will start to buy in.
Thanks for this post and the reminder to go slow when it comes to celebrating any supposed change of heart by trump when it comes to Russia. On ICE, I agree with this: "They are doing it in the most inhumane and economically destructive way possible to accelerate the process, encourage “self-deportation,” and in their minds save money." I would add that the cruelty and "manic racial madness" (great phrase - apt) is red meat for the MAGA base. Saw a post on Bluesky yesterday of people taking selfies with grins and "thumbs up" at the Alligator Alcatraz sign in Florida.
I'm almost ready to submit a proposed resolution to the Sac. County Board of Supervisors, and specifically the Chair. Below is my draft email -- comments very welcome. It borrows heavily from one that Deborah Potter submitted and from a comment reply from Simon a while back concerning the importance of having the debate even if the resolution isn't passed. Also, here's a google docs link to the folder in my google drive with the draft resolution (again, very similar to Deborah's, with some revisions) and CA AG list of press releases. First time trying this google docs link so please let me know if it works or not. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1raMTLpkme7he8FLBo4-16wJXpI5NoFxN?usp=drive_link
Dear Chair Serna,
May I please meet with you soon to discuss the attached draft resolution for the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors? The resolution is entitled "Defending Our Democracy and the U.S. Constitution." Similar resolutions were recently passed in Bernalillo and Santa Fe Counties in New Mexico (see this piece in the Albuquerque Journal OPINION: BernCo defended Constitution and separation of powers | Opinion | abqjournal.com), and I am working with a group of people who are helping to advance these types of resolutions in communities across the country (in 46 localities across 15 states, at last count).
Although I live in District 3, I respectfully ask you to consider introducing this resolution as Chair, with any changes you might consider appropriate. I hope that Supervisor Kennedy in District 2 would support the resolution, and that you might best understand how to find a third vote on the Board. If not, in my view, it is just as important to have a resolution like this debated at the local level, even if it is not passed. It would get all of the Board members on record, which in turn would be important information for voters.
I know this might be not be a typical resolution, but as I'm sure you are aware we do not live in typical times. We the People are called upon to document and fight against the abuses and usurpations that threaten our freedoms. I think it is vitally important for all elected officials to use their voices at this moment in time. I myself have twice sworn an oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution. We recently celebrated Independence Day in this country, and during the revolutionary period, local jurisdictions passed declarations of disapproval for harmful decisions that were enacted without the consent of the colonies. A resolution liked this, passed by a local governing body, would be very much in that true American spirit.
If you are willing to consider introducing this draft resolution, please know that I am willing to testify and bring others to testify at any relevant hearing to have our concerns entered in the public record.
I look forward to your response. Thank you very much for your time.
Sincerely, John R. Payne (Sacramento County resident, District 3)
The Dem. State Atty. Generals need our thanks today. They sent a letter to Congress today regarding their concern about Ice agents in unmarked cars, no ID on their clothing, wearing masks. That, they claimed, was dangerous for all concerned. I had called Tong's office a month ago about this and was told they were working on it together. I called his office and the staff member was thrilled that I called to thank them. We should all remember to not just to ask, but to thank. Tomorrow I will call my senators and congressman to ask them to bring it up and then thank them for doing so. We are not a third world country yet they are our defenders in the breach.
Tonight I will be attending our DTC meeting and picking up names of newly registered Democrats so that I can send them a Welcome postcard.
Hi John. Your email to transmit the resolution is really good (but see next chat message for two small changes). Chances are the Board of Supervisors will advance it without needing to meet with you. Time will tell, and I wish you great success.
Please change the access to your google doc to "anyone with the link." I did send you a request for access, but you will need to approve it. Until you make the change, everyone will have to submit their access request. I had this problem too, until someone in the chat explained it.
Got it! Thanks. In your email, please change the Resolution Title to what matches your draft resolution: Defending Our Constitution and the Separation of Powers. My draft title (that is in your draft email) was changed by the BernCo. County Commission, and I accepted all of their proposed changes.
also, minor typo in the draft resolution, word supervisors
Would you like to include your list of AG citations as references within the resolution? Although I did that for BernCo., it was taken out by the sponsors. Otherwise, it could be mentioned in oral testimony and transmitted as a separate document in addition to the resolution.
That probably makes sense to include as references in the same document. One less thing for someone to open, and easy to remove. I was going to send it as a separate attachment with the resolution, but I like the idea of keeping it together.
we can have a united, two pronged approach to the two biggest issues:
1. all elected dems speak to the immigration bill donny 2 dolls killed and urge passing it now. when americans understand that it will save us the $$$, cruelty, disruption and fear, they will urge passage too.
2. somehow get the senate to take back their authority on tariffs and end the tariff madness. but think they passed a bill this cant be done during this year? but that can be changed also. i thought a tariff court said it was illegal. what is the update on this pls??? appealing??
Self reporting: I've been calling my Senators (Schumer & Gillibrand) regularly to ask them to speak out against ICE, especially since New Yorkers are being taken away + ICE is refusing to allow Reps to inspect.
I am overcome with horror this morning. ICE is Gestapo. Removing people to gulags on our own land. Like the Native peoples being marched west and put on reservations where they can't grow food, and they die on the way. Like the Jewish people in Germany. I am taking a big breath and going to focus on this in my calls. There are SO many things. WTF is going on with SCOTUS. I mean really!!!!! the dept of Education.
The Extreme Court 6 have been entrenched in the Federalist Society since they decided to make law their profession, except Thomas & Alito who joined after their law careers began in 1974 and 1975.

Self report from WI. Several rounds of calls in to Rep elected officials. ICE, tariffs, FEMA/NOAA etc, attack on our health, Ukraine and corruption. I’ll call my Dem senators this afternoon regarding being loud about the tariffs, Ukraine and attack on our health.
From WI… yesterday I sent my Dem Senator a copy of what Van Orden is sending to constituents who questioned the “Big Ugly” she needs to see it. It’s a Q&A full of untruths in an attempt to justify his yes vote.
Commenting this morning with a very heavy heart this morning, as a leaked list of all 1350 RIF'd State Department employees made its way into my networks. These are patriots, experts, diplomats, career public servants. These are people who negotiated climate agreements, opened trade deals, evacuated Afghan women, forced countries to enact laws to protect against trafficking in persons, and pushed back against Russia.
It includes every single one of my former colleagues in the Secretary's Office of Global Women's Issues (I was fired in January).
If you know a fed, hug them and tell them you're proud of them. Public service is a calling more than a career.
If you don't know a fed, bring a sign thanking them to your next protest.
And either way, please include them in your calls to your Reps, in your hiring plans if you have any, and in your prayers.
I recently spoke at length with a friend who is an almost 20 year foreign service officer who was RIF-ed last week. They estimate about 250 career foreign service and about 1,300 civil service personnel permanently attached to the State Department were fired. They have reason to believe that this was just the first of several RIF. (I had to be educated - RIF = Reduction in Force. ie shit-canned for no valid reason) They (using gender neutral because I’m paranoid about protecting their privacy) are heartbroken, angry and very ready to fight back. They saw this coming months ago and took action to preserve their employment records as well as a lot of other valuable information.
I mentioned Simon’s role in the 2018 midterms esp recruiting vets to run for office, and the fact that some of these profoundly patriotic foreign service officers and civil service employees may well be good candidates in the future. Their eyes lit up at this possible avenue of resistance and defense of country. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
I think rebuilding the Foreign Service and State Department should be part of our Democratic platform /goals— in Simon’s list the Keep America Safe section.

I am horrified. What will become of student loans?
Student loans is an excellent point to amplify.

Here is a link to the VISIBLE Act from Padilla & Booker: https://www.booker.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/visible-act-070725.pdf - Sen. Kim is a cosponsor already, don't have to ask him to sign on I guess! And here is a one-pager on the bill: https://www.padilla.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/VISIBLE-Act-One-Pager-updated.pdf - I think this bill is absolutely critical. We simply MUST NOT accept the fact that we all will live in fear of being disappeared here in our home country.
On Thursday, I will be joining a postcard party to write to unregistered voters, and a candlelight march to the boardwalk afterward to honor the late, great John Lewis.
Keep going!

what a great idea
Yes, I like that idea, too!
good expert professional federal employees, along with law abiding, hard working immigrants are the glue that keep this country going. amen!
Janie, I will say how deeply sorry I am. My heart has been and is heavy for all these losses and our constitution being trashed.
