I hear he's thinking of changing the subject to the Epstein files ;)

Love these morning posts! Thanks for the overview... now there's a cease fire and the straits are "fully open". Trump is going to try and make this a huge deal: "I opened the straits of Hormuz". HA! We gotta keep reminding folks that HE Starting this f'ing war and created a global catastrophe!!

Meanwhile, thanks everyone for phone banking. I was with little granddaughters and couldn't make it. Also, my terrific rep Jim McGovern is a battle axe on the House floor. And I heard a great interview with him yesterday on NPR. He is out front and courageous, saying it like it is. I'm proud. Keep on everyone and thanks for all your work. I've fallen down on the job these days but so grateful you are there....

A question of perception:

* You and I see a light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s the hope of a better tomorrow, an end to the insanity, and a strengthening of American democracy and return to the great principles on which our nation was founded.

* Trump insists he sees a light at the end of the tunnel – and he fails to realize it’s the train coming the other way!

Simon’s eight-point bullet list in blue type is so revealing! Each is a link to absolutely-damning reporting, and in normal times any single one of those would a scandal headline story.

ArcticStones's avatar

Here is a 9th damning story:

During a recent hearing of the House Oversight Committee, Congressman Ted Lieu produced a signed authorization for a massive $6.2 billion wire transfer to a Cayman Islands entity named Hemispheric Strategic Solutions. The company didn’t even exist two weeks before the payment. Unable or unwilling to answer, Steven Miller produced a 253-second silence, a new record in Congressional hearing history.

Apparently, security logs have revealed a secret meeting in Miller’s office with offshore law experts and a foreign national flagged as an intelligence concern just days before the money moved.

Federal prosecutors follow money trails. And $6.2 billion is a very large trail.

So you’re saying this was pure fiction? If so, it would explain why I found so little information on this incident. I would have expected it to be headline news – and for Ted Liu to be giving prominent interviews about it.

Tom Thumb's avatar

Wow. Bye bye, Nosferatu. And if he tries to pardon you, you & the Supremes are going to find out you're not the only ones who can violate the Constitution

Tom Thumb's avatar

PS Interesting that the time stamp on that vid is six days ago, and not a peep from the legacy media, frenemies (at best) of the people. What a surprise.

Bison Doc's avatar

Could someone please explain this post and responses in plain English? Thank you.

I am hoping Karin can explain better. But if I understand her correctly, she is questioning the veracity of the report and this video.

"So much winning!" Oh, wait, that's Ds who love democracy not MAGAs who prefer White, Christian autocracy. Trump's bullying and braggadocio; his chest thumping and foot stomping; his game of checkers with himself where the only move he knows is "King Me" are all collapsing under their own weight. People aren't buying what he's selling, and his selling is getting increasingly desperate, panicked and unhinged.

Simon kept telling us all along--through all those dark, dark months--that Rs would eventually leave the sinking Trump Ship and throw themselves into lifeboats of self-preservation. And that's exactly what's happening. And each day, the stampede gets louder and bigger. Pedal to the metal for us. Time to accelerate, not rest.

I'm in the Andy Harris district in Maryland and he has a good challenger this year. Can we add Dan Snyder to the Hopium list to support?

Patrick's avatar

Exhausting but overall trending in the right direction. I had a good night phone banking, and thanks to all the Hopium people there as well. I'm thinking about signing up for another shift on Sunday. And still post carding.

Watching the House try to figure out if we might try to stop the bleeding is getting frustrating. You just can't work with the GOP as a group, even if a few people peel off. When that happens, the best we can do is stop damaging legislation from passing.

What I find particularly frustrating is that there really is no debate about real issues and policy between the two parties where there is any intellectual honesty from the other side. We don't as a country really focus on things like climate change, technology, jobs in new industries, etc., in a thoughtful way at all. On our side, sure, but then the actual back and forth between the two parties is empty.

They just need to be voted out en masse and hope that electoral failure forces them to take a better path.

Remember the “Tea Party” Republicans? They had a shelf life lasting a few years.

MAGA’s shelf life is about to expire. It’s shrill and strident mean-spirited tone conflicts with who we are. It was doomed just as was the Tea Party crazies.

Many thanks for your informative reports. I donated to Ossoff, Peltola, and the triple Ohio fund this morning.

Will you be doing more reporting on the California gubernatorial campaign? I'm getting nervous!

YAY! I am feeling so optimistic today, and am thrilled for the great Pres. Zelenskyy! You know you've messed up when Meloni is mad at you, lol. He just can't let go of the pope thing. Good luck w that, pal.

Here in NJ, we are already planning events for Mejia's primary election bid - yeah, it's weird - she had to do a special primary, then a special general, now a regular primary. And hopefully she's sworn in faster than Grijalva! Looking forward to more postcards, and to next week's VA vote. Keep going!

Breaking News:

White House Officials & Congressional Republicans proudly announce that they have successfully lowered taxes for the average American by $150 per year after a difficult and complicated process of raising their cost of living by $4000.

A champagne brunch, followed by a team "best ball" golf tournament and "Studio 54" themed gala in celebration of the accomplishment will be held Saturday at Mar-a-Lago for anyone who makes a $1,000,000 or greater contribution to President Trump's Presidential Library Foundation.

I really shouldn't try to do satire these days....this scenario feels way too plausible for people to realize I made it up LOL. So encouraging to see the headlines about Zelenski, and how much the administration is on their back foot. We have to turn his name permanently into mud and make it socially costly for anyone who helped him do everything he's done.

Tom Thumb's avatar

Lol. You could have done that one earlier this month, Steve, and said "April Fools‐‐it's true!" And started the first four-dimensional April Fools Day...

PianoManSteve's avatar

Lol…I still can’t believe the bizarro world that we keep waking up to every day… Comedian Marc Maron back in the first Trump term talked about how he keeps hearing things that ordinarily would sound completely preposterous but just seem pretty plausible now… “Did you hear they’re going to turn the Grand Canyon into a landfill? Oh, and by the way, it’s OK to hunt at zoos now!”

God help us 🤦‍♂️😂

Tom Thumb's avatar

And soon it's going to be OK for the zoo animals to hunt people.

Michael G Baer's avatar

Not just socially costly, criminally costly for all to whom that applies.

I just want to thank you for initiating the Audacious Expansion Fund, Simon. Contributing in this way makes me feel less like a piggy bank and more like a committed fighter for the cause. It's a great use of the not expansive $ resources I do have to offer.

Simon thank you for all the links to such good news!! As I was linking to the articles I ran across more good news that I wanted to share...Keep hoping and pushing on hopeful ones!

Perhaps this is a sign that RFK, Jr is on the way out🙏 Trump finally nominates a highly qualified, outstanding candidate as CDC chief. Dr. Erica Schwartz is a former Coast Guard Rear Admiral, MD, attorney, +. She served as Deputy Surgeon General in Trump’s first term.

Thank you for sharing this. I read, almost in disbelief, through the NPR report on the CDC appointments. This seems to be shockingly good news, completely out of character for Trump appointments in his second term. But, perhaps a reflection of the dire circumstances the GOP has brought upon itself.
