Thank you Simon. This is such important work...the messaging. We ALL have to keep it up. Just in the past few days I have spoken to several doom and gloom Democrats who have been despairing from watching only the MSM..."Joe Biden isn't popular, too old, we are doomed, etc." They feel that it's hopeless to work electorally because we are going to lose. They have been pleased and surprised when I've shared your work and the real facts about how Democrats are doing and have done in elections since 2018. And then I hook them up with a way to get active...write postcards, register voters, canvass or phone bank. Let's all make sure we are spreading the good news and the way forward everywhere we can!
Exactly, Sandycreek! I share links daily all over the place and there is no question that the Hope with a Plan message is rippling wide and strong! Robert Hubbell is another upbeat, realistic voice I recently learned of. Here is a recent paragraph! “Here’s a new year’s resolution: Let’s not worry about imagined disasters. We should be realistic. We should be open to the truth. But let’s stop rehearsing catastrophe in our heads as a defense mechanism against disappointment or as a way of mediating anxiety. Action is the antidote to anxiety. The harder we work, the less anxious we will be. And our action will make Joe Biden’s re-election in 2024 more likely! A win-win!“ ~Robert Hubbell. Clearly a kindred warrior!🌊🌊🌊
"But let’s stop rehearsing catastrophe in our heads as a defense mechanism against disappointment or as a way of mediating anxiety. Action is the antidote to anxiety. The harder we work, the less anxious we will be."
THis really resonates with me! I have stocked up on postcards and postcard stamps (don't forget about price hilke later this month). I grab 5 or 10 postcards whenever I am tempted to doom scroll and it definitely short circuits my negativity!
Sometimes it feels like I am on the wrong planet. I genuinely like and respect President Biden. His Christmas message of peace and brotherhood brought me and my family to tears, I appreciate the fact that he does not yell, scream, talk endlessly about himself, or promote hate, bigotry, or division. President Biden promotes a civic and civil worldview I can get behind. What’s so despicable about that?
Donald Trump ended 2023 with favorability at 36 percent favorable, 58 percent unfavorable and 6 percent unsure.
On election day 2020, when he lost, these numbers were 43-54-2. In other words, he has dropped seven points - even with all of right-wing media behind him and Biden not even campaigning yet.
This is from a decent pollster. Just sharing it for context, to keep doom and gloom from setting in, which it absolutely shouldn't. No candidate has ever been as damaged as Trump. And Republicans in Congress are not popular either.
Well done Simon....it’s been fun to see your consistent effort translate into greater levels of exposure in the national conversation and it’s been very meaningful and satisfying to be part of the effort for both reshaping our center-left narrative and winning elections. 2024 is here and we’ve kicked ass in triple-A ball....we’ve now been called up to the majors and it’s time to win a ring. #GameOn! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Debbie Jessika Mucarsel-Powell is an Ecuadorian-born American politician and academic administrator who served as a U.S. representative for Florida's 26th congressional district from 2019 to 2021.
Katrina Christiansen embodies tenacity, translating convictions into actions. Her mission is unwavering: to empower North Dakotans with government resources for their success.
Colin Allred was born and raised in North Texas by a single mom who was a public school teacher. With the help of his family, community, and coaches, Colin was able to graduate from Baylor University, play in the NFL, become a civil rights lawyer, and serve his hometown in Congress.
Ruben Gallego is running for Senate to level the playing field for working families and ensure that all Arizonans have the same shot at the American Dream that he did.
The son of immigrants from Colombia and Mexico, Ruben was one of four kids raised by a single mother on a secretary’s salary. Growing up poor, he helped support his family by working as a janitor, a line cook, and at a meat-packing plant throughout high school. Despite his long hours, he earned a spot at Harvard University, where he again worked numerous odd jobs – including cleaning the bathrooms of his wealthier classmates – to pay his way through school.
Senator Sherrod Brown has spent his career fighting for the Dignity of Work – the idea that hard work should pay off for everyone, no matter who you are, where you live, or what kind of work you do. He has held nearly 500 roundtables across Ohio, because he believes the best ideas don’t come out of Washington – they come from conversations with Ohioans across our state.
Senator Jon Tester is a third-generation Montana farmer, a proud grandfather, and a former school teacher who has deep roots in hard work, responsibility and accountability.
As a former Floridian, I plan to direct as many donation dollars as I can to oust the Medicare fraudster. Debbie Murcasel-Powell is probably my favorite politician down there. Thanks for mentioning her!
I want to be clear that I am not recommending that folks give to these Senate campaigns. I understand that my recommendations will in many cases supplement what people are already doing, as people want to work/donate in races that matter to them regardless of national strategic imperatives. Of these Senate races, Tester and Brown matter most I think, followed by Gallego and Rosen. The jury is out on the rest for me.
My goal here is to only recommend those races or projects that I think are most deserving, based on my many years doing this and recognizing the limitations we all have in time and money. Enormous amounts of money gets wasted every two years on elections we can never win, and it's why I am going to be very conservative and focused, and recommend races/projects where we can make a difference and have a chance of winning.
So for example in FL HD-35 and NY 3. We can win those races, and our work/money can make a huge difference there. Where I would like people to be focused for now, as well as general broad support for North Carolina given it's strategic importance and gubernatorial race this year.
I really appreciate this. I donate an average of $200 per month to various ActBlue groups. I’d like to take a hard look at my donations and target them most effectively this year.
Everything I have seen shows Kunce polling within margin of error vs Hawley right now. As a Missouri citizen, I want that seat back, so I will be donating to Kunce this year. But I will also be donating to the Dems you are recommending.
As a Kansas resident of KC and follower of MO politics (and dabbler in KS politics) I have to agree with Simon… and you. I want that Senate seat back and out of that insurrectionist’s hands. BUT the focus must be on the 7 contested/-able (“swing”) states and Missouri is a very long, long way from flip-ability.
I was sad how easily MODems threw Kunce over for the Busch scion, Trudy Valentine, even when it was painfully clear she had no grassroots campaign or strategy. Kunce’s folks were unmoved to gravitate to her orbit. ‘22 was a disaster.
I’m a Californian but am very impressed by Kunce and disgusted by Hawley. I like to hear how someone from Missouri feels about Kunce because I’m thinking seriously about giving him a monthly donation. Thanks.
Thank you Simon. Your endless enthusiasm is contagious.
One thing we, those who believe on our democracy, need in 2024 is a huge, nationwide “We Support Democracy” rally. We need to show the country and world that there are more of us than there are of those who don’t.

Thank you, Simon! With your information, I'm currently sitting in central Illinois and writing postcards to voters in NY for Tom Suozzi. Thank you for pointing the way for us to help keep the country moving in the right direction!
Wow, Simon- task master. . . 😆I’m hiding from the world for one more day but will be back full throttle tomorrow! Big Thanks to all of you and all we do. 2024 winning team.
Does anyone know what is happening with Reach? There is some information on the Democratic party website but not clear to me whether this is operational yet for the 2024 presidential campaign. It sounds like a good idea that I would like to get others using, but need to learn more about it. Here is a Washington Post article about it from October. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/10/13/biden-organizing-campaign-election/
We all love and share your well reasoned optimism heading into 2024.
I don't know about others on this newsletter, but I usually accused by my liberal to progessive freinds and colleagues of being a wild eyed, unrealistic optimist for my confidence that, not only will Biden win in 2024, but Democrats will win in landslide territory across the board, nationally and locally.
The calculaton that Biden will get to a 55%-45% victory can is supported. in my mind, by these electoral assumptions:
1. 16 million 18-24 year olds will join the ranks of eligible voters btween 2020 and 2024. It is reasonable to believe 50% (8 million) will regisiter to vote by 2024 and of those, 75% (6 million) will vote for Biden. Then, assumng Trump is the GOP candidate:
2. 2-3 million formerly inactive Demcrats who didn't come out to vote in 2020 will vote for democracy, women's rights and Biden in 2024.
3. Biden will pickup 2-3 mil more independent voters than he had in 2020
4. Biden will pick up 1-1.5 more GOP "Never Trumpers" than he had in 2020
Biden will lose some 2020 voters:
5. 2-3 million may vote 3rd party rather than Biden
6. 2-3 million may not vote who did in 2020
If my estimates are in a reasonal range of 2024 results, Biden picks up 7-9 million votes in 2024 which give him a total of 88-90 million votes.
Predicting Trump's vote tally is much more difficult, except to say, I cannot see where Trump picks up a single vote! Somewhere in the range of 6-8 million GOP and GOP-leaning Independent voters have died since 2020. Trumps current facsist compaign rhetoric, his criminal trials and the chaos agenda of the MAGA House will drive more GOP voters away the polls or to votr for Joe Biden and the Democrats as a safe place for America.
These assumptions would give Biden a 14-16 million vote win in 2024. Depending on how many GOP voters stayed away from the polls, Biden would achieve a 55%-45% or better win.
I share your enthusiasm and I think there is nothing wrong with optimism. In fact, I’m beginning to think Americans would be well-served by rereading Pollyanna. It’s got to be way more upbeat than Truth Social. That’s sort of tongue in cheek, but seriously, can hate, fear, despair and excessive misery really inspire anybody over the long term ?
All I read everywhere is that the youth vote is not enthused to show up for Biden. In fact this is the only place I see any positive talk about Biden at all. And for every Joe Trippi analysis that is more optimistic, there is one from David Axelrod, it seems, saying we are doomed. It just does not jive that Biden would be trailing the odious trump. 18 points ahead on the economy? Trusted to do better on every issue? Did people not live through the disaster of 2016-2020? They want to turn back to a fraudulent failure they gave the boot after one term, which he only won on a quirk of the EC? I cannot believe people really want this. If the economy is bad, you can't prove it in central NJ, where the shopping lines are long....
