It's Been 100 Days Of Failure, Chaos, And Betrayal - Trump's First 100 Days Are The Worst We've Ever Seen
Hopium Paid Subscribers Gather Tonight at 7pm ET/Founding Members Friday At 1pm ET
Morning all. In yesterday’s main post we reviewed how we had seen a promising rise in influential voices openly defying our mad leader - Fed Chair Powell, the Supreme Court, universities across the country, the Wall Street Journal and countries around the world. These decisions to defy, to challenge, to break come not just from a defense of truth, and an expression of values, but also from a calculation about Trump’s relative strength and weakness. It is why to defeat Trump we must continue to define him as weak, failed, struggling, incompetent, a buffoon, a fuck up and a lame duck. If he is seen as weak and struggling more will defy. Courage becomes contagious, and a virtuous cycle kicks in as increasing defiance makes him weaker and that perception of weakness brings more defiance. It is how we continue to get stronger, and he weaker.
So let’s start today with all the ways Trump is weak, struggling, pathetic, failed:
1 - Trump’s traitorous “give the genocidal maniac Putin everything he wants” plan for Ukraine has been rejected by Europe and Ukraine, and his cowardly envoys could not even show their faces at planned talks in London today
2 - This morning Trump appears to be in full retreat on both his attack on Fed Chair Powell and the central goal of his destructive tariff strategy - punishing and isolating China. We will see what happens but we appear to be in the second major tariff walk back in just the last few weeks.
As we discussed with Senator Coons yesterday Trump’s tariffs and America’s idiotic retreat from the world is making Trump and the US look weak and feckless, which in turns is making our adversaries far, far stronger
3 - Then there is poor Elon (LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
4 - The US is now officially experiencing its largest measles outbreak since the disease was considered eliminated in 2000. From the NYT:
The spread of measles in the Southwest now constitutes the largest single outbreak since the United States declared the disease eliminated in 2000, federal scientists told state officials in a meeting on Monday.
The New York Times obtained a recording of the meeting. Until now, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had not publicly described the outbreak in such stark terms.
C.D.C. officials now view the spread of measles in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico as a single outbreak, Dr. Dan Filardo, who leads the agency’s task force for the measles response, told state health officials at the meeting.
“This is the largest outbreak in the U.S. since measles elimination was declared in 2000,” he said. The agency was sending seven additional officials to Texas, epicenter of the escalating crisis, he added.
5 - Pete Hegseth has become an incredible problem for Trump, again making him look weak, feckless and idiotic on things that really matter
6 - The Courts, including the Supreme Court, continue to deliver him rebuke and defeat day after day (see my interview with Anna Bower for more on this)
That Trump is failing, badly, has been noticed by voters. Here are the shifts in Trump’s job approval from his first week in three leading tracking polls:
Reuters/Ipsos 47%-41% (+6) to 42%-53% (-11) - a 17 pt swing
Morning Consult 52%-44% (+8) to 46%-52% (-6) - a 14 pt swing
Economist/YouGov 49%-43% (+6) to 41%-54% (-13) - a 19 pt swing
Here’s the just released data from this morning’s Economist/YouGov poll. The coalition that won him the election is unraveling:
18-29 (-24)
Hisp (-33)
Indie (-35)
Here’s a new graph of Economist/YouGov polling from G. Elliot Morris:
Here’s some detail from the new Reuters/Ipsos poll. Trump is not winning:
Note here Trump is in negative territory on immigration. In today’s Economist/YouGov poll Trump is now 45%-50% (-5) on immigration, a wild downward trend Philip Bump graphs out in his new Washington Post analysis, Tracking The Administration’s Nosedive:
And another tidbit from G. Elliott Morris:
We will be talking about all this tonight in our next paid subscriber gathering. Learn more and register here. And a reminder - a paid Hopium subscription is 10% off through the end of April. For while Trump is raising prices on things here at Hopium we are defiantly lowering them for you.
The bottom line - minds are changing. Trump is falling. More people are speaking out and defying him. His greatest strengths - the economy, immigration, competence - are becoming liabilities for him. Our work together matters my friends. It matters. We are making progress but cannot let up for one minute.
Now, let’s get to work….
Hopium Actions and Campaigns - Due to space constraints today, I am only sharing my three most important recommendations for channeling our frustration, anger and love of country today. For the full list head to our 2025 Campaigns/Actions page on the main Hopium site:
Demand Congress Rescind Trump’s Terrible Tariffs - Call/contact your Senators and House Members today and demand roll back these incredibly dangerous and unconstitutional tariffs immediately. Insist they sign on and advocate for the new bi-partisan resolution that would be repeal the tariffs just introduced by Senator Kaine, Paul, Wyden, Shaheen, Welch, Warren and Schumer. It will be coming to a Senate vote in the coming days.
Watch my new interview with Senator Time Kaine to learn more, and applaud the critically important law suit brought by Governor Gavin Newsom and the State of California suit challenging the Constitutionality of the these terrible tariffs. These tariffs are without question the greatest abuse of power by an American leader in our history and we must fight with everything we got to roll them back.
Fight The Trump-Musk Attack On Our Government, Our Privacy And Our Constitutional Order - We must continue to encourage our Senators and Representatives to let Facts be be submitted to a candid world by:
Crafting a joint Senate and House Letter to America, inspired by our Declaration Of Independence
Following Senator Booker’s lead in creating good trouble on the House and Senate floors, holding more aggressive and strategic daily press conferences and keep the Shadow Hearings coming
Hitting the trail like Bernie, AOC, Senator Chris Murphy and Rep. Maxwell Frost, and leading with courage like Senator Chris Van Hollen
To file law suits, amicus briefs and criminal referrals against the unconstitutional ransacking of the government of the United States of America
Call to demand the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
Help Abigail Spanberger Win Virginia - Virginia will be one of the big battlegrounds of the November, 2025 elections and we have a great candidate for Governor, Abigail Spanberger. Watch my interview with Abigail, donate, volunteer, and learn more here. Given how many federal employees live in Virginia, this race is also now on the front lines of the Trump/Musk assault on the federal government.
We’ve raised more than $82,000 so far towards our June 30th goal of $200,000 - thank you all. Let’s keep working it for Abigail!
Paid subscribers should self-report their actions today in our daily chat. So inspired by how hard so many of you are working. I want to make a special plea to all Hopium readers in states with Republican Senators - please make your calls, every day. Even 50 to 100 people calling every day can make a difference. We have hundreds of Hopium subscribers in every state in the country and it’s critical that we all do our part now.
Keep working hard all. We are making progress, true progress, but we have a lot of work ahead of us - Simon
Hello friends - I am in the UK 🇬🇧 and have just written to my MP, the Prime Minister and King Charles to ask that the invitation of a state visit for Mr Trump be withdrawn. I may not be able to influence what happens in the US but I can make my voice heard here. I’m a 67 year old woman and I’ve never protested anything in my life but I am so sick and tired of the absolute corruption we are seeing everywhere - there has to be a better way. Keep up the fight and thank you Simon for being a sane voice in all of this.
