John Roberts will either go down in history as the person who almost gave away our democracy or the person who did, depending on how things work out. He should feel haunted for the rest of his life.
I am drinking coffee from my Notorious RBG mug. At times of greatest strife, I ask for help from those who have gone before us, including Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg!
That's not joy in his eyes. He should be haunted by the immunity decision. He let the orange Godzilla loose to destroy all we hold dear and precious in our democratic union.
I know Katie was busy tonight with her alternative State of the Union event. I watched part of Miles Taylor's event. Simon, if you or Katie have a chance to watch part of it, watch the part with the Minneapolis Mayor. I'm curious what both of you think of the Minneapolis Mayor. He seems like he's Presidential material. Young enough and yet still has enough experience under his belt.
Oh, no. No, no, no. He has been very good on TV, but completely absent on the ground where we need him, and entirely oblivious to the existential crisis the city is currently facing.
Simon, the new winning the House fundraiser I thought was supposed to have 12 candidates. I donated but it looked like there were only 10, with Taylor and Cooke missing.
It’s a very heavy burden that John Roberts is carrying. He created this Trump monster as President in 2024 and now is living with his legacy as Chief justice destroyed by Donald Trump, he should have expected it.
Spanberger was fantastic. What a positive contrast to our corrupt President.
I am infuriated that Trump exploits the tragedies of others for his benefit, especially when he wraps himself in the valor of military veterans, given he did everything he could to avoid his military service.
Alas, Roberts's "Shakespearean actor" act is also an act. The man has no moral core, just raw ego all the way down that is consumed with fulfilling a fun idea he had back in law school and owning libs. The rest of it is performance. He's been really good at simulating Stoic gravitas for years, but he has all the gravitas of a feather. We project repentance on him (or, for example, regrets on McConnell) because we want to believe in people. Probably in his head he's working on his next immunity decision.
I am curious if Hopium will endorse a candidate for Colorado's Congressional 8th district. (My district!) It is a true swing district and I think there is a good chance it will be flipped.
The interview with Katie Phang was wonderful! I feel so full of Hopium after joining the livestream.
Thank you!
Perhaps 💙Raúl Torrez, Attorney General of New Mexico,💙 can come back to talk about the investigation of Zorro Ranch with Simon. I recall he promised to do another interview.
I watched but had it on mute. I enjoyed watching the Repubs jumping up and down out of their seats, clapping madly, and Vance and Johnson behind Trump, Johnson nodding and smiling like a puppet and leaping to his feet, while the Democrats sat in their seats. Trump was preening at the applause, but he should be scared cause the emperor is wearing no clothes and no one is bothering to tell him.
At one point I saw Ilhan Omar shouting something out, but not sure what it was.
Then I listened to Rachel Maddow with her guests. They had listened for me and it was just as awful as I expected, but I didn't have to listen to it myself. But they also pointed out things I wouldn't have noticed. Although I did not hear any of this, I liked Rachel Maddow's new term 'violence porn'.
I did actually have it off mute for about 1 minute when Trump started out with these amazing whoppers and decided I didn't want to hear any more of that.
I really enjoyed Abigail Spanberger's rebuttal afterwards. It was hope inspiring and blessedly brief.
I've decided that serious expression on Roberts face might just be confusion. I'm going to interpret it as a man just completely confused. He might be in an early stage of dementia. I can't understand anything these people are doing.
They don't understand "lifetime appointment" apparently. Or they are afraid no one will invite them to the cool parties.

Agree and would add Merrick Garland.
I agree! He absolutely SHOULD feel "like a haunted Shakespearean actor," because he IS one.
Mitch McConnell

A grotesque parody.

John Roberts has entered the FO phase of FAFO.
That picture. Cassius maybe. Act V

I couldn’t watch. Wouldn’t watch.
I don’t know as much as some do about the state of our union but I know enough.
I’m sitting this one out.
See you on the other side of the fallout.
I couldn't watch it either.
