To all.

Please keep writing into the NYTs at editorial@nytimes.com to comment on its antii-Biden bias. Here's what I posted today about the NYTs print edition

Sirs,

As a long time reader, it's getting more and more difficult to understand what the Times considers news worthy to print and how the editorial board sees the paper shaping public opinion.

Our president, Joe Biden, kicked off his election campaign yesterday with a powerful condemnation of both Trump and the MAGA movement. He gave exactly the speech that's an answer to the horror movie/nightmare scenarios many of your journalists have described if Trump wins a 2nd term.

Your two leading, above the fold, stories on today's front page were about heavy rain in Europe and Trump's ballot case in Colorado. Biden's kickoff speech was covered on pg 11.

For the sake of our democracy, I hope the Times will soon join the fight to save it.

The solution is really simple. Elect Joe Biden to a second term. That's the News that's fit to Print.

Thanks

Merrill Weingrod

I am with you! I spend way too much time trying to understand why the NYT lost its way. To that end, I recommend reading the terrible and self deluded 14,000 word “op-ed” by James Bennett about when he got fired for running Tom Cotton’s op-ed calling for Trump to send out the troops out against protesters. It is awful but includes quotes from Sulzberger and Baquet that reveal their contempt for their readers and their intent on being the paper of record for people in power (no matter what the cost) rather than a great newspaper that does amazing journalism that services the 10 million, mostly progressive, subscribers who pay for everything the company does. Thank you for all you do. Yes, yesterday’s speech by President Biden was great. We need to both see and hear a lot more from him in the weeks and months to come. Both he and Kamala Harris need to be on the American consciousness and constantly drawing a sharp contrast with Trump and the MAGA movement.

I'm trying to phone bank this afternoon for Tom Keen. I logged in to OpenVPB, but I can't figure out how to make a call. And I can't find any way to contact the Keen campaign for assistance. I used OpenVPB to make calls for the Virginia legislative races in November and had no problems then. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Something else is messed up with the Tom Keen virtual phone bank. When I try signing up for a time slot either for today or another day this week, the only choices presented to me are 11:00 pm and 11:30pm

Right. I can get in. I'm presented with the name of a person to call. But how do I make the phone call?

I use my phone. I enter *67 and the phone number of the person given which blocks my number as anonymous .There is a drop down menu below the script to enter the response.

LOL. I was thinking I could make the calls on my computer, like I did for the Virginia and Jacksonville FL elections. Thank you. I'll use my phone!

Biden’s speech was very moving. Let’s hope Independents and one time trumpers take the time to hear it.

Now if we can smack down the MSM giving oxygen to trump’s lies and pretending the two candidates are both for democracy. The MSM needs to be telling the truth about how dangerous trump is.

Hey..thanks so much for the link to the Bennett self flagellation article. Putting aside the whining, it's scary. I'm meeting next week with a close friend of ours who is a retired journalist and familiar with the Times. I hope to learn something about how readers can apply pressure for better reporting.

Reading today's newsletter and the comments the passion for democracy in this community is palpable. So glad to be in this fight with you all. One step toward making this a blue 2024 would be flipping NY-03 from red to blue next month. My law school classmate Tom Suozzi is running in a Special Election for his old seat in Congress and could use help. If you have been paying attention, Long Island has gone red for the past 3 Elections (2021, 2022, 2023). Winning back NY-03 on February 13th is the first step toward winning back the districts we lost in NY in 2022 and winning back the House in November. You can find out all the ways to help the campaign by joining Markers For Democracy (the activist group I co-founded in 2018) tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon for the first in a series of virtual events called Sundays For Suozzi. Tomorrow's guest is none other than Simon Rosenberg. We'll also hear from Tom Suozzi and folks from the campaign, as well as Volunteer of the Week, Christopher Bae. It's really encouraging to see Biden forcefully taking on Trump directly by name. I think this is an important, and badly needed, change in the tone of the campaign.

As I say, parts of our coalition has wandered, and we need to work to go get them back. None of this should be surprising, nor should it evoke fear or worry. We are not where we want to be and have work to do.

We have confidence in Biden-Harris and their record. The only thing that evokes worry is the relentlessly negative and/or inadequate media coverage by journalists who should know better but apparently don't. Today's pathetic performance by Kristin Welker on Meet the Press is just the latest case in point.
