The Trump administration is ending a key health insurance subsidy program that aimed to keep premiums for seniors' prescription drug plans in check, claiming that it benefits corporate insurance companies, according to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz.
Medicare Part D -- the government health insurance program's prescription drug benefit -- is used by tens of millions of older or disabled beneficiaries.
The program's subsidies are set to expire at the end of the year, the administration announced Tuesday.
That move will likely result in higher prescription costs and increase premiums for about half of recipients, according to an administration official.
Bring this news to your constituency! State what you are going to do to make sure that seniors (most on fixed incomes) can afford their medication.
Well, this one quite literally hits close to home! I'm just outside the boundaries of the new CA-06 but saw Dr. Pan speak during the primary at our local Democratic club meeting. Really proud to see him featured here! What comes across for me is both his experience in politics as a state legislator and the genuine passion and expertise that he has regarding following the science when it comes to healthcare. I had forgotten about his brush with RFK, Jr. in the past, when Dr. Pan helped strengthen CA vaccine laws after a measles outbreak.
Really appreciate Simon highlighting this race and making sure a victory by Dr. Pan in this newly drawn CA district isn't taken for granted. Kevin Kiley was the GOP incumbent in nearby CA-03 and decided to run as an "Independent" in new CA-06. Very cynical on his part -- he voted against a War Powers Resolution recently, voted for the Big Ugly Bill, etc.
Signed up on Dr. Pan's website and just made a donation through the Hopium link.
Wow! Dr. Richard Pan is inspiring and makes me proud to be a Californian. Just made a donation through the Hopium link so we can finish the job and get him elected to represent newly created CA-06. Keep these candidate interviews coming, Simon. They are pure gold!
Great interview. I’m a Californian, but I’m in Montana this summer. I just told a friend of ours here who grew up in California, about Hopium. I also forwarded this interview to him. He has a lot of concerns about the democratic socialist wing, so I told him our job is to win this election first and have that discussion another time. He sees a lot of right wingers, so he was grateful to have some positive news.
PAGING DR PAN and ALL DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES!!!!

We sure do need more like Dr. Pan
