Thank you so much for this conversation. I have always really respected Katie's journalism, intelligence, & perspective. And I have appreciated Simon's and our movement's focus on the importance of language and taking back patriotism & the symbols of patriotism. Toward that end, I'd love to see Dems resume use of the adjective Democratic when describing ourselves and our leadership; I believe it was Newt Gingrich who foisted upon us all the more limiting term Democrat. As in, "The Democrat Congresswoman from _______" vs "The Democratic Congresswoman from ____." These may seem like meaningless and simple changes in our language but such things have been powerful means by which our party has been demeaned & diminished. And is a prime example of how we have let the other party define us.
I would also like us to stop referring to the Trump leadership as an Administration; they are a regime - nothing more, nothing less.
Tech question for Lincoln or anyone else who knows far more than I do:
With Substack live events, I get frequent freezing, and then, often, the video will drop off. It can't be refreshed/resuscitated back to life. There's just a message that says: This live video has ended.
Is it a Substack thing?
When the video is posted to the Content author's platform, I can stream it in its entirety without any of these issues.
Is there anything I can do on my end to support live streams?
It's happened with several Substack presenters, not just Simon.
You can't swing a cat without finding her as a guest on someone's Substack Live.
I appreciate her journey and all she has to offer. I saw her live, once, here in NY (before the election). She's sensational on a stage and part of a panel.
I've always liked Katie on MSNBC, and I honor and respect her for this new change. Thank you Katie! Looking forward to your contribution!
I heard Katie mention something I've been thinking about, and that is adding to our message that he's breaking everything, a message that from this mess, we can create something even better than we had. Robert Reich mentioned this the other day, too.
Stephen Miller just went before the television cameras and said the administration is "looking at suspending habeas corpus."
If this doesn't send shivers down every spine in this country, then we're in even bigger trouble than I thought.
I am calling my Senators (Schumer and Gillibrand) right now even though it's Friday evening. And I will be telling Schumer's office that he needs to do a heck of a lot more than to send "a strongly worded letter."
I feel the love of country and patriotism coming through my phone to my heart and mind. Our movement is rising, and I FEEL it. Thankyou Simon and Katie! Fantastic talk!
This was amazing. Thank you. And I have a confession to make. We don't own a TV, and when I kept seeing Katie Phang appearing in my inbox, I had no clue who she was. Now I do, and boy am I glad I do. I can't subscribe to everything, so I was beginning to simply whiz past new voices. This is inspiring, and I hope there becomes a path forward where we can bring all these voices together. My subscription list is teetering on the unmanageable.
I’m a huge fan of Katie. Have been since the first time I found her on MSNBC. Glad to know that she has a great new chapter in her life and happy to be one of her continued fans.
This was a great conversation. Thank you for making it happen. I hope we see more discussions between Katie and Simon in the future!
Awesome!! I want more of her!!!
Subscribe to her Substack.

Thanks for any assistance or insights.
I find I have more trouble with the lives on my phone. Seems to work better with my iPad. Don’t know if that’ll help you at all.
Katie is making the rounds.
