Great discussion. I like these collaborations (like the recent one with Glenn Kirschner). They build unity.

This was such an excellent discussion this morning, Simon. These meetings are wonderful. As Don B. says, they strengthen our community. Hope you will have Stuart S. and others on soon. Thank you.

Watched you three live this morning, YOU ALL ROCKED!!!! I don't mind setting my alarm for 6:15 3X a week to catch Coffee with the Contrarians, and what a team today!! Spot on, all of you!

Great interview. I liked Norm’s correction, although he overlooked the Supreme Court’s less than laudatory performance in shoring up guardrails.

My skeptical mind immediately wondered ... did the Republican decide not to run for Governor in Minnesota because he "cannot defend" this administration, or because he knows he stands the same chance of winning as a snowball in hell? A logical mind has to conclude there are no ethical Republicans left running for any office anywhere, so he's dropping out for his own self interest. Either way, it's all to the good.

Wondering if Norm agreed with Jen about protesting in front of Susan Collins' office.

Get to a deal on ice? Is that like saying you can rape my kid just a little?

We must also not forget the other souls lost to the American Gestapo, ICE. I am looking for a list of their names. DUE PROCESS FOR ALL. Democrats can take back the issue of Immigration. It is huge opportunity and we MUST take it. We have the moral authority on this. Democratic leadership NEEDS to get out and get in the streets with the rest of us. They need to get real; it is NOT the time for legislation. We MUST fight for democracy

Saw "Coffee" this morning live and loved it! I have made my calls today, but added another: My governor, Kathy Hochul. I love your idea, Simon, of the larger Democratic Party coming together for mutual support among blue states in conjunction with our Federal delegations. So I would suggest that, for those of us with Dem Govs, we call them and ask them to reach out to their counterparts to find new and creative ways to oppose this regime as a more unified force. I included that desire in my comments to Schumer, Gillibrand, and Tonko as well.

I'm proud of my Illinois governor, JB Pritzker, who has stated that he and other governors have been meeting to form a plan. Our Attorney General, Kwame Raoul, has been meeting and filing lawsuits with many other attorneys general. Senator Tammy Duckworth has been in the thick of the fight. And at least Senator Durbin, due to retire, will vote NO on the funding bill. But I'm still emailing and calling (I call the local offices, where I always get a person, but also email, so it's in writing.)

And I also always thank them for the actions they are taking to protect us and democracy. ICE will be sure to come back to Chicago, just in time for our primaries.

Pritzker has been great! I know the Dem AG's have been doing a lot of good work together, planning as soon as the election was over. Wish I knew more about cooperation among the Govs.

John, Governor Pritzker didn't want to say too much about it as of now (he mentioned it in an interview with--I think--Jen Psaki.) But he's quite outspoken, as you know, and I'm sure there will be more information forthcoming. As for the attorneys general, I know they're consulting with their Minnesota counterpart, since these murders and other ICE actions are all so unprecedented. But I'm sure the Minnesota AG has been in their group, since he's from a Midwestern state.

As Simon mentioned, I hope Hakeem and Schumer are talking to the governors for a more united front. The example of the NATO countries getting behind Finland is such a obvious play for us to use.

we need to be demanding that they be on offense. Can you imagine? We could have governors taking shots at Mike Johnson, who is taking another recess after a four week recess for Christmas. Johnson can’t be bothered to stay in town and negotiate a possible new bill.

Are you kidding ….Newsom and JB could be taking their shots at them.
