MUSK TRIES TO BUY WISCONSIN SUPREME COURT SEAT

. Musk's PAC offers $100 to Wisconsin voters in pitch against "activist judges"

Elon Musk's political action committee is offering Wisconsin voters $100 to sign a petition expressing their opposition to "activist judges." … Musk is throwing his considerable wealth behind Trump's priorities — including an upcoming election in Wisconsin for a crucial seat on the state's Supreme Court.

The April 1 election in Wisconsin will determine the tilt of an ideologically divided bench in a swing state where state-level decisions can carry national implications for abortion rights, legislative redistricting and election laws.

Two Musk-backed groups — America PAC and Building America's Future — have combined to spend nearly $20 million to support Brad Schimel, the Republican candidate for the Wisconsin court seat.

After a voter signs the petition and is credited with $100, Musk's team won't know for sure whether, or how, that person voted in Wisconsin's election. But the groups will have the voter's data, which will allow the groups to contact them again in the future.

Imagine the Republican outcry – and probable criminal charges – if, say, George Soros were to attempt the same.

I had the same thought. Musk sees WI votes as a real bargain, comparatively speaking. Wisconsinites should hold out for more money - and then donate every dollar to Crawford.

Thank you. The article made it to The NY Times also. I pray that Ben Wikler and Democratic State Attorney General Josh Kaul are all over this corruption.

we should call that out - our Congress members cannot/should not belong to billionaires, big money should get out of politics - we want fairness and the rule of law in our court system - we are not for sale

Democrats know who the activist judges really are: the likes of Schimel, not Crawford! Naturally we are against them.

Two sides can play this game. Depending on the wording and payout date, Democrats should be encouraged to sign Musk’s petition, collect their $100 – and consider donating it to Susan Crawford’s campaign!

It's funnier in retrospect that, during their one debate, Judge Crawford referred to him as "Elon Schimel."

What comes across is what I hope becomes a shared perception on the power of petitions. If a person is willing to spend $100 per signature....

And here we go.... a "stream of consciousness" thing. Laverne, Shirley, beer, Milwaukee, Susan Crawford.

Was enjoying a beer poured into my Leinenkugel's glass with lunch. A glass that I bought as a set from the company when I took a trip from Seattle to my home in Michigan in the late 1970s. The company was located in Chippewa Falls -- where Susan graduated from HS in 1983.

That may have been her in the family car I nearly hit as I went the wrong way down a one-way road -- just out of the motel parking lot. "Hey, they'd better turn those lights around, or someone's going to have an accident."

Liney's was a beer WELL known and prized by Michigan deer hunters in the western UP. Upper Peninsula. "Yoopers," we called them -- and they called us "Trolls." Everyone living south of the Mackinac Bridge. We'd laugh at all the non-Michiganders coming to Detroit to stock up on Stroh's. Fire-brewed.

Flipped it on its head by posting all over social media to fight Musk by doing the following:

- Send 100 postcards to WI voters for Judge Crawford;

- Make 100 calls for Judge Crawford;

- Knock on 100 doors for Judge Crawford; and/or

- Donate $100 to Judge Crawford.

As for me, mailing more postcards today, and introducing an outraged friend to postcard writing over the weekend.

Any thoughts like maybe we should encourage Dems to sign, get the money and donate it to Crawford or other worthy cause. Probably also need to include information about how to get free Google Voice phone number so you're not giving Elon your cell phone number.

This from Robert Hubells substack today... (unfortunately the graph can not be pasted here but it shows about 2500 protests since the inauguration in 2025 and about 1100 protests for the same period in 2017 after Trump's first inauguration)

There are more protests now than in 2017

The media is peddling a false narrative that the resistance in 2025 is not as strong as it was in 2017. That is not true; the narrative is a product of the media’s laziness. The media is content to show video of a massive march—like the Women’s March in 2017—but won’t make the effort to cover hundreds of smaller marches across the nation.

A study of the number of protests in 2025 vs 2017 shows that the current protest activity is nearly double that of 2017. See the chart below, taken from Resistance is alive and well in the United States | Waging Nonviolence by Erica Chenoweth, Jeremy Pressman, and Soha Hammam.

The authors of the article write as follows:

Many underestimate resistance to the current Republican administration because they view resistance through a narrow lens, [i.e., the] 2017 Women’s March . . . In fact, our research shows that street protests today are far more numerous and frequent than skeptics might suggest. . . . [S]ince Jan. 22, we’ve seen more than twice as many street protests than took place during the same period eight years ago.

Rep. Tran is very insightful about the fact that Trump supporters want change, Trump promised change, so let's give him time to do it. It is insightful not because we need to give him time, but we need to message that we are also a movement of change (not the old ways, not judgmental), we are ON IT and listening, not waiting for a mea culpa, but responding to the problems that face, and the new harms they, and WE ALL, are experiencing, and that this is the time to make it better - the old system is dysfunctional, and we are all now focused on government that is focused first and foremost on the economy - making sure that safety nets are preserved, healthcare is affordable and available for every American, that prices come down, the stock market stabilizes, (etc) but that we are also safe in the face of our enemies (we know who our enemies are and who our friends are), making housing affordable - small businesses have an opportunity to thrive, TAXES ARE FAIR, AND BIG MONEY IS REMOVED FROM GOVERNMENT

Thank you, DNC Chair Ken Martin!

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) announced an investment in two April special House races in Florida on Thursday.

“I ran for DNC Chair on a platform to compete in elections everywhere — in all 57 states and territories and across all 3,244 counties,” DNC Chair Ken Martin said in a statement.

The investment will bring in “additional full-time organizing capacity to mobilize voters and volunteers on the ground” in the state’s first and sixth congressional districts." It will also "cover the rollout of a voter protection program in the two districts, which will include more than 200 poll watchers and greeters to be deployed on Election Day."

good news! I hope we will all be thinking ahead to how we can help those who are elderly, with transportation, or support with filling out the onerous forms, to both register and get to and from the polls - Trumpsters are trying to make it as difficult as possible for everyday folks to vote; we can hit back TWICE as hard...

Also, I hope we can come up with some ways to stop Elon from rigging voting infrastructure, as I suspect he did in 2024, in special, midterm and 2028 elections! this may come in the form of on-the-ground monitoring, recording, double counting - but it could be doable if we have enough volunteers, monitors, and make it available to the "other side" as well - so there will be less whining from Trumpsters about "stealing the elections" - thoughts?

Hi Everyone - I'm a college professor and was happy to see this pushback this morning from a couple of organizations I belong to:

Joint Statement on Executive Order to Dismantle Department of Education

In this moment of turbulent policy change, The Phi Beta Kappa Society and the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) remain steadfast and nonpartisan voices championing education in the liberal arts and sciences as essential public good. For nearly half a century, the Department of Education has been critical in ensuring robust funding for colleges and universities nationwide and safeguarding student financial aid necessary to access colleges and universities. Dismantling of the Department of Education will result in catastrophic implications for students, faculty, communities, and the nation.

The Phi Beta Kappa Society and ACLS urge the administration to rescind the Executive Order calling for the dismantling of the Department of Education. For up-to-date information on ways our members can take action, visit https://toolkit.pbk.org/resources/ or https://www.acls.org/what-we-do/advocacy/.

It's going to take all of us putting our neck on the line to keep the country we love - much appreciation for each one of you! Kent

Shouldn't we all call these two to thank them for speaking out and ask them to stand firm?

From HCR: "House Armed Services Committee chair Mike Rogers (R-AL) and Senate Armed Services Committee chair Roger Wicker (R-MS) issued a joint statement saying they are “very concerned about reports that claim [the Department of Defense] is considering unilateral changes on major strategic issues, including significant reductions to U.S. forces stationed abroad, absent coordination with the White House and Congress. We…will not accept significant changes to our warfighting structure that are made without a rigorous interagency process, coordination with combatant commanders and the Joint Staff, and collaboration with Congress,” they wrote. “Such moves risk undermining American deterrence around the globe and detracting from our negotiating positions with America’s adversaries."

Thank you for the wonderful interview w Rep. Tran, for whom I was proud to make ballot cure calls earlier this year. So pleased for him!

Just called Rep. Chris Smith (NJ04) to demand he support veterans and call out the admin's abandonment of our heroic service members. He has very polite people answer the phone, and he very politely ignores all of us. He lives in VA and is a 40-year veteran of doing the wrong thing. UGH.

Looking forward to tomorrow's Town Hall w Sen. Kim, which should be a full house and very lively.

Spent yesterday sitting in the beautiful NJ State House in Trenton, (one of the oldest in the country) attending a hearing on gun safety legislation, which will be voted on by the state assembly on Monday. I highly recommend everyone do this once in their lives - it's fascinating watching these hearings play out, and sometimes heartbreaking to hear the testimony of the witnesses. Doesn't cost you anything and you will learn a lot about the nuts and bolts of democracy.

Pleased to see senators stepping up their comms game - Sen. Schiff has been excellent, doing explainers on various issues in the news. And I'm looking forward to hearing from Dr. Ruth Ben Ghiat shortly, she is always excellent - highly recommend her Lucid Substack.

KEEP GOING everyone! We are making a difference!

In the Senate this bill was called "Protect Veteran Jobs Act," introduced by Senators Tammy Duckworth (IL) and Andy Kim (NJ). A staff member for Senator Duckworth told me when I phoned, the R's in the Senate would not vote for it - Cowards who take their orders from musk/trump.

If you have a Republican Rep in your district, I would really call that person out loudly. If he doesn't do town halls, find a Democrat to do a town hall.

Hi All, There is a global realignment taking place. What this means for us all is uncertain. The mood in Europe appears to have changed massively. The US is viewed as an unreliable ally under Trump and even a potentially adversary in a trade war. Trump/Musk/Vance are horrible and disgusting, however a note of caution. The Democratic Party should not define itself in the context of Trump. It goes without saying that civilised, compassionate, caring people, concerned about the full spectrum of life's pursuits - not just the financial - will recoil at what's happening. However, the opportunity should be to offer some positive, something much better - not just being 'not Trump'. The energy transition offers millions of new jobs and lower costs. Education not only equips people to be a part of a thriving economy, it provides them with the foundations to enjoy life. Democracy and civic rights and duties provides safeguards to allow people to enjoy lives under the rule of law. Caring for the environment, rural communities and farmers improves food security, diets, health and mental wellbeing. Across all functions there is a positive case to be made. It will be more important than ever after the nihilism of the Trump years. I hope and pray the Democrats can build a strong, positive campaign so that one day the USA can resume its place in the world, become again a reliable friend and ally - a beacon of hope and democracy. May this start with Judge Crawford in Wisconsin, move to Virginia and next year manifest itself in a blue Tsunami across the whole nation. Decent people just need to turn out and vote! Love from Wales.

I’m in Minnesota, and last night our absolutely fantastic Attorney General Keith Ellison invited the Attorneys General from NY, NJ, and IL to join him for a listening session. They had to keep changing the location because so many people were registering. Security told me there were over 1100 people gathered. People shared really heart-rending stories about how *waves hands* all this had affected them. The AGs kept emphasizing they weren’t there to make speeches. They wanted to learn, to file lawsuits, get injunctions, stop the madness. Keith told us to keep up the pressure, keep showing up, keep pushing back. They think they can push past us and we’ll give up. Show them they are wrong. (Keith used to be my congressman. I love him!)

My AG in Vermont, Charity Clark, did a town hall on Tuesday. First she reiterated all of the active suits, then she listened for over an hour to people, answering questions and giving info. She said she takes heart from Roberts' statement about impeaching judges on Monday, and she also said she believed that many/all of the current suits would be settled before the midterms. The town hall was informative, mildly reassuring, and was helpful in putting a face and personality to the name that I've been addressing in my phone calls over the past few weeks.
