Good discussion, but I was surprised no one mentioned Next Gen America or Civics Center (focusing on high schools.) See my political guide, Dollars and Hours here. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/can-you-help-save-democracy-julie-fisher-melton-ph-d-/

I brought up Civics Center's work in my remarks, and link to my interview with Laura Brill below...https://simonwdc.substack.com/p/my-youth-vote-discussion-with-john

With youth registration on my mind I inappropriately asked the young cashier at the supermarket if he was registered to vote (I then realized that's a very intrusive question, and apologized). He said yes, but only because his parents made him do it, and he's not into politics. I was trying to be nonpartisan and nonjudgmental so I couldn't really say much but made encouraging noises. I'm clearly not the person to do it, but yeah, we need to reach these young people.

I just watched John Della Volpe on Morning Joe and he stated that his research showed young people are not aligned with the Democratic Party - are moving away from it. And not inclined to vote. That seems so different from what I thought was happening. Jolted me!

I really liked this discussion, especially about enrolling and welcoming young voters into both voter registration and the party. I got a lot out of the "welcome message" and will incorporate a warm welcome into all we do (we already do, but I heard it in a new way for young people).

Youth vote is important. I’m particularly concerned we are losing part of the young male vote. This WashPo article brilliantly describes how liberals have ceded the discussion of masculinity to the far right. I believe this is something we need to be discussing despite the risk of feminist backlash. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/07/10/christine-emba-masculinity-new-model/?wpisrc=nl_ideas
