Leave it to Nancy Mace to be impelled to steal the spotlight and make it ALL about HER.

God help the people of her state if she somehow becomes governor.

Yes and No. She is a survivor herself of sexual abuse. I don't know if she's done work on her trauma? Not enough work can leave a person highly reactive. She had a reaction. That happens, it was real. It's only monsters (socio- and psychopaths) who don't have reactions. (I know she's an awful person. I know Steve Schmidt trashed her on The Warning, but hey, he's a warrior-man.)

In the room where Nancy Mace was, I think the survivors spoke graphically, descriptively. A D-Rep from NM also came out of there almost trembling with fury, and ablaze with determination. Yesterday's private meeting was not the content of the presser this morning. The bad guys don't know what has been birthed here.

Also: Nancy Mace has the potential to reach people who will not listen to 'a liberal.' Politics has always made for strange bedfellows. As in Ro Khanna holding a presser with MTG ?! I only heard her closing comments. She spoke clearly and forcefully. Way more intelligently than all the Cabinet secretaries rolled together.

They are both doing the right thing here. And Boebert. Maybe they only do the right thing once in their whole lives, but they're doing it. They all voted right. We need two more Republicans.

Yes, Boebert, another welcome surprise for me. I have to think there's some correlation to the XX genes. (I know there are lots of decent men, who understand what is involved in being a stand-up man. The attacking comments though come overwhelmingly from males. Shades of Christine Blasey Ford's testimony...)

Thanks Simon. Great recap on this crumbling administration and his cult party, and how we have to stay in their collective faces every day. What's crazy is that if we didn't know better - it reads like a trashy political thriller with Vance creeping around in the shadows. I often said last year - Vance was Thiel/Musk's play and that Trump would have to stay away from windows bc they were alllll using him to infiltrate our government and would dispose of him as soon as they got what they wanted.

What surprises me is that Trump hasn't sniffed out Vance's disloyalty and begun to trash him publicly. He was perfectly willing to have Pence hanged, so Vance must be treading very lightly indeed!

I thought the same. I'd expected that Trump's announcement yesterday would be Vance's resignation. (Much to Vance's surprise!)

Also, Vance looks like he's using reverse Just For Men.

Is it too soon to say what we should ask of our MOC regarding the budget? Make a deal, don’t make a deal, avoid a shutdown, go for a shutdown?

For now Sarah I believe we need to be making clear what our goals are for the fall, which is our 4 part agenda. Fight for as much of it as we can get. Send a clear signal about our priorities. Be far more direct in our critique of him. The deal or no deal comes later.

Last night I donated to Va. Attorney General candidate Jay Jones, who is significantly behind the MAGA incumbent in campaign funds, and to nine House of Delegates candidates who could oust Republican incumbents in competitive districts. They are Lindsey Dougherty (District 75), Jessica Anderson (71), Kacey Carnegie (89), Elizabeth Guzman (22), Virgil Thornton (86), Mark Downey (69), Donna Littlepage (40), Andrew Payton (34), Scott Konopasek (59). Most of these lag or have comparable campaign funds to their R opponent, per the Virginia Public Access Project (https://www.vpap.org), which is a detailed but easy-to-use database about Va. elections, funding, candidates, district locations, demographics and voting histories, etc.

Made my calls, and as always thanked the stalwart staff at my Democratic representatives offices. It always makes me feel a little better too. Today I’m mailing postcards for the election in Virginia that I’ve completed. Keep calm and carry on, as the signs said during the bombing of London. Together we’ll get through this.

this corrupt man and his awful allies are eating our national seed corn, blowing another inheritance and stealing the future from our kids and grandkids.

"EATING OUR NATIONAL SEED CORN"!!!!!! That nails it exactly, in language that should speak to those within and without our base.

Self reporting - emailed all my Senators, House Reps, and state Reps with the below

1 Roll back Trump's terrible and illegal tariffs that are reigniting inflation, driving up prices, shifting the burden from the wealthy to working people, hurting small businesses and farmers, and alienating governments

and people throughout the world.

2. Block the expansion of ICE and the use of the military on our streets including DC

3. End Trump's war on science, higher education and our public health; stop the cuts to the ACA and Medicaid;

demand the removal of madman Robert Kennedy from HHS - yes we need to FIRE HIM

4. Stand with Ukraine and block Trump's ongoing efforts to sell out the US.

But, I also think he is in medical decline. He usually flies to Bedminster which had me thinking about his heart health. Generally those with heart issues or heart failure are not recommended to fly. Hmm...

I bring this up every time someone I know urges impeachment. "What if he's actually convicted and removed from office?" I ask. "Then we get JD Vance, who's decades younger, much healthier, and run by Thiel & co." It's depressing how few relatively well informed USians seem to know how impeachment works, even though we've had two of them in the last six years.

If we get Vance in the near or delayed future, then we'll deal at that time with that set of evil problems. It's more imperative that T is ousted from the Oval Office (not that impeachment would ever happen under present political circumstances).

Vance is despised by basically everybody. Trump is the front man for Project 2025 and the actual deep state run by pro-oligarch billionaires. Maga is a cult that follows a leader.

IMHO, They got no replacement front man. Once Trump is off the stage, Maga will experience the deepest crack that can not be repaired.

I agree. And I also think that Dems running scared is a reason why we're losing our democracy now. Trump has committed high crimes and must be held responsible. If Vance does, then, too, he must be held responsible.

Expand full comment
Michael G Baer's avatar

Sad to say, I think impeachment is a distraction, not a viable solution. Trump either dies, or becomes so obviously more feeble and/or insane that 25th amendment becomes a must. That's one way out.

Meanwhile, the more we keep winning elections, and the further down we drive Trump's polls, the more pressure we put on the rats to jump the ship of Trump. Joni Ernst is a seed of a beginning. That's another way out... the one we can have an impact on.

Real accountability for treasonous behavior won't come before J20, 2029...

Expand full comment
Anne Bear's avatar

Oh, I agree. I was responding to the comment about people not understanding the consequences of impeachment (that we get Vance), but should have been more clear. The point is that we cannot hold on to this cancer because we fear what's lurking around the corner. It's time to approach our democracy with course and principles.

Vance doesn’t have the personality, pull, or popularity that trump has in terms of his ability to hold together different right wing coalitions and less politically engaged voters. Trump gone is my #1 priority. With him goes MAGA.

Expand full comment
Thomas's avatar

"With him goes MAGA." This is the kind of sentiment that was expressed when Barack Obama was first elected in 2008. "With Obama's election, we enter a 'post-racial' society." -- So many said. (And we find today that society is as racist as ever.)

The forces behind MAGA saw Trump as the perfect empty vehicle. They have been plugging away at their agenda for decades now.

They won't go away just because Trump does. What they can bank on is the lack of "constancy of purpose" of their opposition.

I agree. Orange is sui generis, CouchF**K McGee is a bland robotic twit that no one will believe, not even the donut shop employees. He may be in the pocket of those oligarchs, but he is not trusted by the MAGAts and Congress is already fractured. I see nothing but upside in VP McGee, er, Vance being sworn in.

"Today, Washington Governor Bob Ferguson, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Oregon Governor Tina Kotek announced they will launch a new West Coast Health Alliance to ensure residents remain protected by science, not politics. The alliance represents a unified regional response to the Trump Administration’s destruction of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) credibility and scientific integrity."

This is from Gov. Bob Ferguson's website:

https://governor.wa.gov/news/2025/washington-california-and-oregon-launch-new-west-coast-health-alliance-uphold-scientific-integrity

The news release concludes:

"In June, California, Oregon, and Washington condemned Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s removal of all 17 members of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to science-driven decision-making. We will continue to provide clear, evidence-based guidance to people living in our states, look to scientific experts in trusted medical professional organizations for recommendations, and work with public health leaders across the country to ensure all Americans are protected. The absence of consistent, science-based federal leadership poses a direct threat to our nation’s health security. To protect the health of our communities, the West Coast Health Alliance will continue to ensure that our public health strategies are based on best available science."

It's good to see the West Coast governors and secretaries of health condemning RFK, standing up for science, and acting to protect the health of their citizens.
