Excellent interview. The problem is, our rational brains tell us that a president should want to protect their citizens, country, and their power. What folks are slow to realize is that dictators and oligarchs DO NOT CARE about anyone or anything except their own interests. They don’t care if we starve, if our economy is good, if there is famine or war or another country beating them in technology or manufacturing. The only thing they care about is their interests, enriching themselves, getting away with corruption, and never being held accountable. Their interests don’t seem rational to rational people but are perfectly rational if you’re self interested. Let’s stop analyzing this BS. It’s a waste of time. It’s time to strategize about how to topple the Trump regime; peacefully, of course.
Millie Polli Haskell....Reporting-first, Simon, I was thrilled to see the wonderful conversation You had with Sen. Jeanne Shaheen. I think everything You asked and She answered made things a lot more revealing and comforting. And Sen. Shaheen definitely was not happy with Trump's Foreign Policy! I called Sen. Scott and Rep. Luna and really Demanded Very, Very, Very Loudly that they Act Upon Our Four Part Agenda! And told them both to tell MJ he must Re-open the Government! Rollback the Tariffs! Ensure Snap is Funded next month! and Seat Adelita Grijalva!
He will use Beef exports as a tool to transfer $ from Blue to Red. That is a standard grift with him. If beef ranchers suffer for say a year, then he will grant them a huge cash payback saying some shit like it is out of the Tariff revenues. That money of course is coming from Blue States. Meanwhile, to get $40 billion, what did Argentina do for him personally? Did he pull an Egypt? Standard grift.
Under trump, on Feb 25, 2025, the U.S. voted with Russia, Belarus and N. Korea in proclaiming that Ukraine started the war. So, we start from right there as far as the absurd level of danger that we are in with this fucking nut at the wheel.
I’m so excited that you’re having David Pepper on this week, and I hope that in addition to Ohio, you two might discuss how to motivate volunteers to be active with their state parties.
Could you and David discuss how to boost the conversation across the Democratic and progressive landscape about volunteering for state parties, e.g., encouraging volunteers to contact their county party to see how they could help, having Hopium followers report back on what they’re hearing from their county parties, getting this message out into Substacks? With so many people still saying, what can we do? - this seems like a great way to help on the ground and get permanent infrastructure in place now.
I am very persuaded by the argument in David's book, Saving Democracy, that precinct organizing is the single best way to ensure Democratic victories.
David has been doing a great job of banging the drum about this, but I don’t see others picking it up in a way that would move people to actually get involved in their state party.
Maybe David could share the portion of his book on precinct organizing, as he has in his Substack, and suggest that volunteers who contact their county party and don’t find precinct or block captain organizing in place could ask their county chair about organizing their precinct following David’s model - and then report back to Hopium.
I know you’re a strong advocate for state parties, and it would be great if you could facilitate this community getting involved with their state parties everywhere.
Great interview, thank you!

We aren’t the country our allies can depend on to do the right thing.

Thank you, Simon!
And a Forever War is an excuse for Forever Occupation of our cities and probably delay or cancellation of elections.
Not to mention the issue of providing financial aid to Republican states and not to Democratic states
