I haven't seen this crown thing but why tf are they giving him a gift after he shamed their people and their country with that mass arrest of Korean workers at that factory??
Just made my calls to Booker & Kim-very happy at the turn of events on The Hill. More of this please! The tide is turning, friends! Looking forward to the call this evening and to hearing more about what others are thinking. Feeling good about Mikie's chances here in NJ, and now have a full weekend of canvassing scheduled, as well as texting to "chase" vote by mail ballots.
Simon, thank you for the email last night -- very good news. I hope that courage is contagious and that next time more Republicans will find the courage to stand up to Trump's illegal tariffs. He is a lame duck and most of these Senators are hoping to be around even after he's gone.
I'm noting more coverage of Trump's declining health. Maybe it's his fault for admitting that he had an MRI and for bragging about the "cognitive" test he took, which is given to assess the progress of Alzheimer's. And the coverage is currently more from late night comics, but over time that can grow into more legacy news coverage.
I called Congressman Raskin about standing firm in the budget battle and I called Senators Alsobrooks and Van Hollen to thank them for their tariff votes and urge them to be present and to vote against tariffs in the upcoming votes. Proud of my old Senator, Tim Kaine, for his years-long efforts to rein in executive power.
Thanks Simon for sharing the good news on the tariff vote last night. Sent me into a phone bank shift buoyant. A very positive experience, people I talked to were generally engaged and happy to vote for Prop. 50. We are emphasizing drop boxes over mail now - talked a few people into that - because of concerns over getting a timely postmark.
I thought Sens. Kaine and Paul nailed it in the quotes you used today. Kaine that they are blatantly lying, and Paul that tariffs are a tax.
Shouldn’t House Dems be standing up non-stop in chambers demanding Johnson negotiate a budget and re-open government? Why not hammer them with demands so they cant bs about Dems being responsible?
Democrats are very vocal, and you can tune in to the discussions, including on social media. Most importantly, Republicans have refused to negotiate to reopen the government.
Just left my daily Where is Senator McCormick? message. What does he stand for? Why is he apparently so eager to hurt Pennsylvanians? Why is he pro higher coffee and beef prices? Why is he always hiding? Why is he, well, today I used the term "so utterly freaking useless." I don't know. You run out of words when talking to or at or in between my PA senators.
Good California morning everyone. Today I take a pile of donations to a fire victim drop off, acquire donations for my church food bank, and write a synopsis of the SNAP situation being a result of 47’s administrative decisions rather than the fault of (those d****d) Democrats. I’ll document sources so the piece can be published in Engage Tuolumne if they want to run with it, then prepare a 3 minute version to read at the county Supervisors meeting next week. It will become a part of the recorded archive at our local access repository. Considering that the previous two meetings were full of a hoped-for Charlie Kirk lovefest that didn’t quite pan out for the MAGAt supervisors, I think we should work on getting them to face real issues. Six thousand five hundred county residents use CalFresh, our version of SNAP.
I just left voicemail for Sens. Ernst and Grassley to urge them to vote to block the tariff on Canada and the global tariff rate. They won't, but they can't say the aren't receiving calls urging them to do so.
This semester I have a student studying in Madrid. Every week she records a video and my intermediate students have to record a two-minute response. Her video last week was about a political scandal rocking Spain: the prime minister, his wife, and his party are all caught up in different bribery cases. I asked my students to talk about whether or not this would be a scandal in the US (we're practicing the conditional, so a great way for them to incorporate the grammar in a contextual way). Every single one of my 19 students said that this would not be a scandal for more than ten minutes if it even made the news. Every single student rolled their eyes or appeared outraged as they talked about how corrupt the administration is. I was surprised and pleased to see that they see what is going on as sometimes college students are unaware of the news.
I made my calls, thanking Tillis and asking Budd to represent his constituents instead of selling us out. In Milli Polli Haskell's words, I was VERY LOUD.
Thanks! Today we were working on the conditional perfect (would have done) and I asked them to imagine a historical moment they wished had turned out differently and then to say what they would have done instead. One group said they wished that Trump had lost. I interjected, "Last year?" and they said, "Both times!" Everyone laughed. Then she said, "We would have had a woman president." An excellent use of the conditional perfect! If only...
self report -- I called both NM Senators Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Luján in Washington, D.C. to thank them for their votes yesterday to terminate the fake national emergency Trump declared to justify imposing 50 percent tariffs on Brazil. Staff were happy to get my messages, logged them in and will convey them to the Senators.
"Governor Bob Ferguson today directed nearly $2.2 million per week to provide additional support to Washington’s food banks in the wake of the Congressional Republicans’ government shutdown. Beginning Nov. 1, funding for the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will end due to the continued federal government shutdown.
"Nearly 1 million Washingtonians rely on the federal SNAP program, with approximately $37 million of federal funds going to households across Washington every week. Governor Ferguson is working with state agencies to mitigate some of the harms caused by the federal government shutdown. Attorney General Nick Brown filed a lawsuit today against the USDA, arguing the suspension of SNAP is unlawful.
"Rural Washington will be hit particularly hard when federal SNAP benefits stop. In Yakima County, for example, 28 percent of residents rely on SNAP — the highest percentage of any county statewide."
Phonebanked with Planned Parenthood last night for yes on 50. Very easy process, although I'm still a pretty new phone banker, and there was some anxiety. But if we can't stretch and do something uncomfortable now, with so much on the line, then we don't earn our titles as Americans. It's all about turnout now - help California if you can.
Trump getting a golden crown award from South Korea sorta invalidates MAGA's assertion that No Kings is irrelevant
I don't wish South Korea ill in any way, but if they like him so much, they are welcome to keep him!
I'm all for this kind of foreign exchange program
South Korea is still an ally. Sending him to North Korea seems more appropriate.

Keep going!
Congress on tariffs... Take the Wins, Baby!
Trumps is completely nuts.... We need a groundswell call for 25th amendment! It will add pressure to GOP. Rise Up!
Way to go, Mark Kelly! He's a force. Also did you guys all see Mamdani's 10 minute video from 4 days ago. So inspiring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZaQVylyoRQ
Called Senators this morning cheering them on. Thanks for keeping us updated on the "cracks", Simon. I'm heartened.

Simon … could you please explain exactly what you mean about 47’s “information superiority”? Thanks.
they control the Presidency, the Congress, the Supreme Court
they have built an unprecedented propaganda apparatus behind them
they are taking greater control over the legacy media
To have all that and still have him losing every argument that matters, some by 30 points, is incredible

This is the most hopeful I have felt since this convicted felon and his criminal and lawless Cabinet took over our country.

what a great way to teach the conditional!
