What a spoiled brat

I can't make a bit of sense out of it. Was this written for him or did he wing it?

What the fuck was he saying?

MrsCQ's avatar

That bad? More than usual or his usual incoherent nonsense and everyone tells him, "Sir, you're the best president ever?"

Faith Wilson's avatar

I heard it referred to as the Pettysburg Address and I can’t stop laughing

MrsCQ's avatar

Missed it. Did he fall asleep?

Paul West's avatar

And now it’s time to remove him.

His first act since then was to introduce a new 10% tariff!!

twowheels's avatar

Which of course is just as illegal as the prior tariff.

MrsCQ's avatar

Just trying to catch up. He is still issuing tariffs????

It proves the only thing GOP cares about is money- we will not see lower prices, we will not get our money back but BUSINESSES will. And he doesn’t care he’s already saying he won’t do it: https://youtube.com/shorts/eZUmAfwq5GU?si=AqIqAlI72tbqIWsZ

#TaxTheRich #EndOligarchs #WeatlthCap I wrote about this in my Substack before this decision- I wanna celebrate but I don’t think it’s a win …unless his refusal to follow the law will lead to his arrest or impeachment

Faith Wilson's avatar

It’s a major win- tariffs are the funding and enforcement arm of this whole toxic regime. There’s no way to exaggerate the impact of this ruling.

The corporations that get a refund will most likely not pass it on to the consumer. 🤬

I am hoping some give some loyalty gift to us. For instance, I buy Costco's medium roast coffee. Before the 2024 election, I paid $13.99 and sometimes it went down to $10.99. After the election, it shot up to $16.99 then after inauguration it went to $18.99 I lowered the coffee pot from 12 cups per day for us to 8 cups to save money and not be so caffeinated. I purchased 2 bags of coffee since election. Hoping Costco will give its consumers a coupon for a free bags of coffee.

I noticed around Christmas, Costco had outrageously priced 2 lbs. of strawberries for $16.99. That's the Trump tariffs. This Costco is in the former MTG's district (GA-14). Tariffs have visibly impacted all of us.

Hope this district flips to Shawn Harris on March 10. Congress will change too, without Mike Johnson as Speaker. Excitement is growing down here. Can GA 14 be another upset like what happened in Texas? Trump was in Rome, GA yesterday to drum up support for himself and Clayton Fuller. The day before he spoke to the press saying "there are lots of fine candidates" and implied he would chose one without realizing he had already endorsed Clayton Fuller. Clayton Fuller is MAGA on steroids and told the Chattanooga Times Free Press : the 2020 election was a fraud and Trump won.

Susan Keefer's avatar

That would be a huge upset if Harris wins. I hope he does.

I’m not holding my breath that our corporations will share the refund money with us even though it’s OUR money.

Lucy Sage's avatar

Now Trump has one less way to extort other countries and businesses in them!

Jan Brown's avatar

Darn, I’ll be on the road for state Democratic convention! I will celebrate there. But what will he do to change the subject because he doesn’t like to lose. Good day for our side!

For the past several weeks, our Indivisible group (Resistance Action East Bay) volunteers have handed out about 2K flyers encouraging our elected officials (using the 5 Calls app) to reform ICE and dramatically cut their budget.

Little cracks (Ds introducing tariff rollback resolutions) become BIG cracks (getting some Rs in House and Senate to eventually pass such resolutions) become HUGE, GRAND CANYON-SIZED CRACKS (having the R-controlled Supreme Court overturn such tariffs as illegal).

Full speed ahead to force new cracks, widen existing ones and make them big enough to drive trucks through!

If Republicans in Congress were smart, they would use this SCOTUS decision as a way to justify getting rid of the billions and billions of dollars that they allocated to the trump/miller massive deportation and concentration camp scheme in summer of 2025 — back when they thought it would be popular. Now that it’s clear that Americans are overwhelmingly pissed about rounding up 5 year olds and slaughtering peaceful protesters, republicans could argue that the nasty Supreme Court has forced them to “desperate cost-saving measures” like cutting back on ICE funding.

Sigh. A girl can dream, right?

Inese V's avatar

YES! And thank you for reproducing the government's contention that the plaintiffs would not be harmed since they would get a refund if tariffs reversed. Start writing those checks for all affected businesses - It especially hit hard those small business owners. Not to mention all those who closed down because they could no longer afford to keep their businesses open: sadly, I doubt they will be made whole...

One of our smallest businesses could not get the routine materials it needed at ALL.

I’ll be there in a few minutes with my glass of wine. Just saw a headline in one of the related NYT stories to the effect that the Supreme Court just declared their independence. Remarkable we live in a time when they have to do that.

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

I'm on glass number 2.

Maybe it's the wine that is causing his speech to make no sense, but I seriously doubt it.

Colleen's avatar

Wow!!! Wasn't that Neil Katyal's case?

Thanks Simon!

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

He's a little bit emotional about it, too. Seems sort of personal to him, given his immigrant family background.

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

Alito, Thomas & Kavanaugh dissented from the majority decision and basically said that Trump is allowed to do whatever he wants in foreign policy.

I submit to the Court that they be relocated to Russia, where they belong.

Live a long and happy life there.

KathyintheWallowas's avatar

tariffs aren't foreign policy, they tax the citizens.

Could this be the straw that breaks the camel's back?

This is the latest communique from the NYS Office of People with Developmental Disabilities re immigration chaos.

For those Hopiates interested, I am pasting the text of the email I have received (I work with this community of Special Needs folks, which is funded by Medicaid) below:

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Significant change in federal immigration policy and enforcement over the past year has created unrest and the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities has received outreach from people with developmental disabilities, their family members, and providers of services, expressing concern. The images on the news and social media, as well as real life experiences that may be happening within your own communities, are disturbing and can feed into anxiety and uncertainty. For OPWDD service providers or families who self-hire staff, federal changes may impact access to critical direct care and other frontline staff.

New York State has released various guidance documents that we share here:

In evaluating how to respond to requests from federal immigration authorities that may appear at a certified location; while protecting the rights of your staff and of the people being served at a location, guidance can be found here: Joint Office of the Governor and Office of the New York State Attorney General Guidance to Private and Non-Profit Organizations and Entities | New York State Attorney General.

The New York State Office for New Americans and the New York Immigration Coalition have developed resources for immigrant New Yorkers, including a

family preparedness guide

“know your rights” resource document and

information on immigration paperwork and related questions.

These resources can be found here: Community Resources for Immigrant NYers - NYC, Long Island, New York State | New York Immigration Coalition - Revision

The New York State Immigrant Resource Guide shares how to access legal and financial services, how to report unlawful activity, and other relevant guidance.

You can find this information here: ImmigrationResourceGuide_v2.pdf

Please note that providers of services certified and operated by OPWDD must maintain an agency-wide Emergency Preparedness Plan for each facility. Providers are encouraged to review those plans in light of the recent uptick in federal immigration enforcement actions and to revise such plans if necessary.

In addition to an increase in federal immigration enforcement action, the federal government has terminated or is expected to terminate temporary protected status of people from multiple nations. Many of these termination attempts, however, have been suspended by the courts. Most recently, the attempted federal rescission of temporary protected status for people from Haiti was suspended, allowing these New Americans to remain in place, at least for now. Providers who employ people with protected immigration status should consult frequently with their attorneys to learn whether those protections are still valid.

As we navigate this uncertainty together, please remember that New York has a long-standing history of valuing the contributions and humanity of immigrants welcomed into our state. Under Governor Hochul, we will continue to honor that promise of acceptance, understanding that we are better because of it.

In Solidarity,

Willow Baer

Commissioner

Great news this morning!!

What a petulant child Piggy is!! In my education career I had dozens of elementary school students respond to, and handle losing better than this fool.
