Thanks Simon. I get hung up where you enter a new credit card number but doesn’t allow for the number to be entered. This is the first time I’ve had an issue with the website. Rebooting the iPad and app had no effect.

Not surprisingly, the Times persistent anti-Biden bias is especially egregious in your coverage of yesterday's primaries.

Joe Biden received 85-90% of the Democratic vote across all states. Donald Trump received from as low as 40% in Minn to 51% in N. Carolina and in the 70% range for most states. Yet the Times describes the comparative results as an overwhelming victory for Trump and only talks about how "unpopular" and "too old" Joe Biden is. In reality and thankfully, Trump has serious problems going forward.

Millions of your long time subscribers wonder when the Times moved from being an objective news service to an advocacy group for the re-election of Trump even more bias than FOX which makes no claims to objectivity.

It's truly shameful and sad to see the decline of a formerly great news organization. Perhaps, your favored candidate had it right in 2017, describing the Times as the"FAILING NEW YORK TIMES!"

I've been writing approx once a week letters to the editor, and to individual journalists, at the NYTimes for over a year -- protesting their misleading, biased and prejudicial political reporting. I think I've reached the point of unsubscribing and just ignoring them in favor of spending that time doing the work we know we need to do to win big in Nov. NO more distractions -- they are a lost cause. In other words, "Do more, worry less"!

What I would like to know is whether others want to join a "mass" unsubscribe action and not only let the Times know, but highlight thru social media etc. Anyone interested or know of such an effort?

Expand full comment

Yes. I think mass action might get noticed. A journalist friend of mine recommended a letter to Salzberger, Joe Kahn and the CEO with hundreds of signatures could also be effective.

Expand full comment

Where can I sign?

Expand full comment

I would love to join that effort but I unsubscribed in 2022 after the “red wave” failed to materialize but NYT kept talking up Biden’s “failures.” Nope, not on my watch.

The Gray Lady has turned to the dark side but a massive unsubscribe campaign would at least garner some attention. (My J school profs are flipping in their graves…. 🤣🤣)

yes, I want to do it in a way that gets their attention. Alexandra R. and Merrill Weingrod, you both expressed it so well.....the NYTimes di in HRC - so DJT won - and they are at it again!!!! Let's organize the boycott.

Happy Wednesday, y'all! The NC GOP nominated an absolute nutter as their candidate for Governor. I'm going to do everything I can to help Biden & Harris & the Democrats take NC away from the GOP in 2024 - just like we took Georgia from the Republicans in 2020-21! For a lifelong Southern girl, this is all very heady stuff. I'm filled with optimism!

Expand full comment

I envision lots of hard-hitting Democratic double attack ads featuring insane video clips from both Robinson and Trump, gluing them at the hip. I’m convinced our chances of keeping the governorship and flipping North Carolina for Biden just increased dramatically!

Me too! Vice President Harris has been coming to Georgia a lot. I'm ready to see the South export our better angels and not our worst.

Hi Janice,

The NC GOP candidate for AG, Dan Bishop is also super-MAGA just not quite as off-the-wall nuts! His opponent, Dem Jeff Jackson is great, so I hope Josh Stein and Jeff Jackson win handily!

I posted this over on Robert Hubble's substack this morning:

Thanks Robert for highlighting the candidate quality issue in NC and linking the article. I also want to share this website about Robinson in his own words:

https://www.realmarkrobinson.com/

It is hard to imagine a starker contrast between candidates - hopefully Robinson will suffer the same fate as the utra-MAGA did in 2022, but I know Trump on the ballot will bring out the crazies.

Some other interesting results from the NC races:

* Rachel Hunt (D), daughter of former Governor Jim Hunt, cruised to victory in the Lt Governor race, while there will be a runoff on the (R) side since none of the 11 (!) candidates broke the 30% threshold needed to advance to the general election.

* Jeff Jackson (D) won his race for AG comfortably despite a GOP dark money group running ads in favor of his main primary opponent.

* Being self-funded and/or getting a lot of TV airtime isn't a guarantee of success

- In NC-06 MAGA candidate Bo Hines came in 4th out of 6 candidates - there will be a runoff in this district as well. He ran in a different district in 2022 and also lost then

- In NC-08 MAGA candidate John Bradford came in 3rd after it was revealed that he didn't even live in the district in which he ran - the winner was disgraced Baptist minister Mark Harris whose election in 2018 for basically the same seat was thrown out because of a ballot harvesting scandal

- In NC-10 rich MAGA candidate Gray Mills lost to another MAGA candidate Pat Harrigan who made much of being a Green Beret but never mentioned his endorsement by Mark Robinson

* the biggest surprise of the night for me was when Pat Cotham, mother of the treason weasel who flipped parties and gave the NC legisature a veto-proof Republican majority, lost her race for an at-large seat on the Meckenburg County Board of Commissioners - She was the top vote-getter in 2022!

Cheryl - thank you VERY much for this information. That's one of the reasons I adore this community so much. My momma's people are NCers and so I do have a little understanding of what's going on in the state politically, but this is great information for my quest. I'll pass it onto my family in the state.

Great!

I couldn't find much coverage of any of the races except presidential last night, so I pulled up the NCSBoE election results webpage: https://er.ncsbe.gov/

Just use the dropdown boxes to pick the date of the election, county, office and contest/district or leave county as "State" if not a local race

New Layoff numbers are in. Biden has overseen 10.8 million fewer layoffs than Trump in their first 36 months in office.

One more month before Trump runs out of pre-pandemic numbers to compare to Biden.

The past three years are the three lowest years for layoffs since records began in 2000. Jobs are more secure under Joe Biden than any other president this century.

I don't know about anyone else, but I am feeling energized and excited this morning. The fight we knew was coming between the two people we knew it would be, is official now. We can stop hearing about Haley, put our heads down, and ramp up our actions.

I've only heard a few tidbits of good results news so far, but one I was concerned about and just learned by reading this morning's HC, is that Rudy Salas will progress to the general election. Great news! Great news out of Texas as well (Jasmine Crockett and Colin Allred). Sinema's news yesterday was also welcome. And, as usual, I am immensely proud of all my fellow Colorado voters and the messages sent to both Biden (yay!) and tfg (you suck).

We can do this, y'all. It's time to get to work for real.

Just as an aside, isn't voting in Colorado wonderful? It should be this easy (and secure!) everywhere. A model for the nation!

I lived in KS for 29 years and never registered, never voted (shameful, I know). When I moved to CO 18 years ago, all my lame excuses to not vote were rendered meaningless, and I've never missed a vote since! LOVE IT!!

Expand full comment

sorry, but if voting in Colorado depends at all on the USPS - it is not "easy and secure".....

I have to walk into a post office every single time I want to securely mail ANYTHING!!!

Expand full comment

In Colorado, there are hundreds of secure drop boxes, polling places and mobile voter services to take your ballot. Once it is received and counted, you are notified by text of that. You can mail it back, but there's always a drop box right around the corner! Here's a map showing the drop boxes and other voter sites in Denver alone: https://www.denvergov.org/maps/map/electionservices

As a result of Colorado's outstanding voting process, ballot counts are ready literally within minutes of the polls closing. Nobody does it better, and we have an outstanding secretary of state in Jena Griswold.

I am energized too!

For the postcarders amongst the group, Activate America - www.activateamerica.vote - has two separate campaigns for Ruben Gallego - one on reproductive freedom and one on prescription drug prices. There is no minimum quantity of names you must take. Requested turn around is 3 - 4 weeks.

Grassroots Dems - https://grassrootsdems.org/postcards/- also has a postcard campaign for him. This one has you choose between 25, 50, or 75 names and addresses and may take longer to get back to you.

Vote Forward - www.votefwd.org - should go live with the first set of their GOTV campaigns this week and AZ should be in the first group along with NC. If you are not yet an approved letter writer, please sign up now using these instructions:

If you think it’s helpful, would you please comment on messaging to encourage independents and anti-MAGAs to vote Biden? I’m thinking of Michael Podhorzer’s Feb. 28 posting on his Substack, “Democracy Is Not a Spectator Sport”. And prominent in a NYTimes Edsall opinion piece today:

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/06/opinion/trump-trials-supreme-court.html. Do you agree with those messaging ideas?

And, generally, what do you think of Mind the Gap’s investment recommendations? The entities they recommend supporting in their Spring 2024 guide aren’t ones I normally hear about.

Thank you -- as always!
