Thanks for the link to President Biden's speech. Wow. What it made compelling beyond the words was the authenticity. President Biden may not have the oratorical brilliance of someone like former President Obama, but the humanity and power behind his words his unmistakable. His commitment to Israel was clear. His compassion for Palestinians was also clear but in no way forgives the Hamas terrorist attack. I couldn't be prouder to have voted for President Biden and look forward to his reelection.
Moments like this remind me how lucky we are to have elected such a wise and seasoned president… The news media of the present day is stuck in an incentive structure that forces them into over simplicity and superficiality… But one day, as the smoke clears and the dust settles, future generations will be taught just how perilous and complicated the politics and threats of our time were, and how ably and honorably those rough waters were navigated by the oldest, but also most prepared and experienced man to ever occupy the oval office. We should all count our blessings every night that he was willing to serve and deal with the perils of serving at this moment in time.

BUT, like you said we CAN NOT stop or slack. Keep pedal to the metal. Only signed two voters but signed two eager volunteers, and handed out 200 voter fridge cards. That is putting a face in front of young college people and saying ‘ we need your voice next year, please be sure you vote!’ 200 times. I know it helps, and I can’t wait for Tom to return in a few weeks and talk voter reg in battlegrounds vs outside and where it may need support. I hope it is expanding nationwide! Keep on keeping on. So proud to call this man my President! And grateful that Democratic leadership from Rep Jeffries to Karine Jean-Pierre are taking his lead in expressing their unequivocal condemnation of Hamas and support of Israel.
It’s times like these that make you realize how important good leadership is to the functioning of this country. I shudder to think how the former president and his corrupt, morally bankrupt cronies would handle this situation- especially now with every guard rail destroyed and every “adult” in the room having either resigned or fired or now publicly revealing the previously hidden but unsurprising details of Trump’s dysfunctional term.
It won’t just be America’s liberal democracy and rule of law at stake in 2024. Simon’s right that this election will have consequences on the stability of the world order. We cannot let Trump anywhere near the White House ever again!
