This is completely false. Did you listen to Spanberger speech? She directly addresses everything we've wanted to hear from our leadership. ICE, corruption, Epstein, threats to our communities. Please take this post down or I will.

Simon Rosenberg's avatar

I've taken this post down for the way it characterizes what happened last night is completely wrong. Clearly you were not paying attention to anything that happened, or even what is in this post, and you are just here shitting on Dems for sport. This has no place here, particularly after such a powerful speech by Gov. Spanberger.

Valborg Fletre Linn's avatar

I watched every minute of the Meidas Touch Network/Move On State of the People event and it was filled with strong Democrats emphatically emphasizing the horrid crimes of this administration and presenting the uplifting ideas for our future ahead, giving voice to everyday Americans from their constituency! Why were you wasting your time watching the ugly weak orange creature demean us! Who are you? Do not speak poorly of our wise and patriotic Democratic leaders! Stop it!

Valborg Fletre Linn's avatar

Please note my comment was to the obnoxious post that Simon removed.

I do not know if you are speaking to me, but if you are, I have been with Hopium since its inception. Pushing to get our Democratic

leaders to be more strong on certain issues has always been part of what we do when necessary. It is part of our civic duty. That is not questioning their patriotism or wisdom. If you were not responding to me, sorry for this long answer.

Valborg Fletre Linn's avatar

No I was not speaking to you! I don’t know why my comment is out of order. I was replying to a name I had not seen here before and Simon took that comment down just moments before my comment posted.

Such a great speech by Gov. Spanberger! She really did us proud.

Yes! Both Spanberger and Padilla were awesome!!!👏

I hope we will be able to discuss the failure of our Democratic leadership to speak out strongly against our sleepwalking into another potential forever war in the middle east. I have heard some great comments from some Democratic representatives about Iran but nothing from the leadership. I am very concerned about this. If enough of us feel this way, which I believe we do, can we make this one of our issues.

Simon Rosenberg's avatar

Joette, the House Democrats are attempting to pass a bill to curb Trump's Iran plans - https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5753315-trump-iran-military-force-resolution-fails/

And the Senate is going to have a war powers vote on Iran in the next few days - https://news.bgov.com/bloomberg-government-news/key-senator-looks-to-force-iran-war-powers-vote-in-coming-days

Simon Rosenberg's avatar

Both of these are supported by the Dem leadership.

Joette's avatar

Thanks for responding, Simon. I was aware this was in the works but read an article yesterday that Democratic leadership and senior aides are working to blunt momentum for a vote on the Khanna-Massie Iran war powers resolution. I do not want to post the article here, since I do not know how reliable it is. I assume your information is more reliable. I was also concerned with Senator Schumer and Warner’s leas than strong responses to the press after the Gang of 8 meeting.

I still think preventing another forever war in Iran should be one of our issues. I called my Republican Rep. and Senators yesterday. They were very hesitant to go on the record with a position on war with Iran.🇮🇷 I asked for letters with their position.

Let’s move to on from the so-called State of the Union that reminded me more of the Jerry Springer show. Sad.

Spanberger and Padilla were rock stars!!⭐️

In addition to the risk of some miscalculation that leads to a conflict, the cost of keeping all that military force "on hand" for some indeterminate period of time could make a big dent in what it would cost to extend the ACA subsidies. No doubt that will play into the upcoming debate in Congress about Iran.

A few comments and comparisons in reaction to the State of Disunion speech:

When I donated the other day to the "Hopium’s Winning The House Campaign", I only saw my donation divided between 10 candidates. Shouldn't it be 12?

The two missing names, from what I could see, where Taylor and Cooke.

Deborah Potter's avatar

If your ActBlue contribution was not processed as you intended, you can request a refund and then make the contribution again. I did that once and it worked out for me.

https://support.actblue.com/donors/contributions/i-made-a-mistake-while-donating-who-should-i-contact/

Right now the website says: "Your contribution will be split evenly between Christina Bohannan, Paige Cognetti, Janelle Stelson, JoAnna Mendoza, Jonathan Nez, Sarah Trone Garriott, Sean McCann, Jamie Ager, Chaz Molder, Elaine Luria, Shannon Taylor, and Rebecca Cooke."

Thanks Deborah. It's not that, I just wondered if the campaign had been set up properly. I don't want a refund. But no one else seems to have noted that the money is going to 10 candidates instead of 12. Maybe the notification is in error. I'm not sure. But it isn't giving feedback that the money is going to the 12 candidates in the campaign, and Taylor and Cooke were, seemingly, left out.

Maybe I am the only one who had this experience, but I donated more than once to test it.

Deborah Potter's avatar

You can still contact ActBLue and find out why that happened.

Patrick's avatar

Well sure, in my abundant free time... I was hoping Simon or Lincoln would make sure the campaign was set up properly.

It probably is and the message is in error. I seem to be the only one who has noticed this.

Patrick's avatar

I know it says that, but then if you look in detail after contributing, the money was split 10 ways, and it gives the list without Taylor and Cooke. It gives the detail after you contribute. You do not see what I am seeing unless you look carefully after donating.

Simon Rosenberg's avatar

Patrick, there was a brief moment after the list went live when all twelve were not on there. But it was fixed quickly, and I don't think that many contributions ended up as yours with only reaching 10 or 11 of the candidates.

Patrick's avatar

OK I'm very glad to hear that. I figured the campaigns themselves would let you know but I wanted to be sure.

I thought Spanberger did a great job. As much as these rebuttals matter, and I do not know what impact they have, I think she made a very solid case and did it in a forceful way.

To me, the two takeaways from last night were, first, that the GOP didn't help themselves by the mindless clapping when Trump was blatantly lying. I think more people are catching on. And second, the guests and the medals handed out, that's fine, but it sends also a message that overall Trump's case is weak, and that he's really planning on going all-in with the military adventurism and following up to attack Iran. I do not think that will play well. Maybe he's trying to send a message to Iran.

People really dislike military adventurism especially when they do not have a good vibe about the economy. It's spending money (for one thing) when people feel hard pressed and think it should go elsewhere.

His economic discussion, when I could bear to watch it, was just utter BS. Making ridiculous claims about gas prices, etc. Everyone knows those are lies, and the GOP goons applauding isn't going to help them appear less out of touch.

Love approach of keeping the focus this morning on our patriots in the pro-democracy movement. Resharing this fire horse painting I saw recently in SF

I have the Southside Johnny song "Better Days" in my head since reading this (link below). I am really disappointed in how MSNow chose to cover the event. I didn't watch, but just dropped in to see what they were doing and checked the podcasts I normally listen to - Maddow, Hayes & O'Donnell. What a waste of time. I watched both the Defiance and MoveOn events and they were as expected.

Furious about the hockey team and their behavior. I understand the nature of the sport, but I'd like to think more of them are like the Hughes brothers than some of the other dolts. UGH.

Still exhausted - and more snow came this morning. Ready to turn the page on our Winter of Discontent. Have a Moms Demand organizing meeting tonight so will have to miss the normal 7 pm event, but NJ Moms are pulling together aggressive actions to turn out our gun safety voters and get our candidates elected this fall.

Keep going! Better days are coming!

The interview with Katie Phang was wonderful! I feel so full of Hopium after joining the livestream. Thank you!

Perhaps 💙Raúl Torrez, Attorney General of New Mexico,💙 can come back to talk about the investigation of Zorro Ranch with Simon. I recall our AG promised to do another interview.

Patrick's avatar

I love Katie because she matches (almost) my level of being pissed off. That's not the only reason, of course, but the vibe is what I am in synch with.

and she's pretty good w the 4-letter words, too ! ;)

I give her credit there. Still, compared to me, she’s a piker. But she will learn.

Spanberger’s speech writer for the win.
