Thanks Simon. Good reading for this holiday weekend. I suspect that very few of us read either the Declaration or the Constitution as often as we ought to; I know I don't.

Sad how, today, so much of this Declaration could be re-directed toward the Federalist Society, as they seem to think they now rule over these 50 colonies.

An often-overlooked key point (ignored by today's GOP, for example): The first two facts submitted to the world are the king's refusal to pass good laws and stopping state governments from passing good laws. Today's GOP has less interest in good laws than in political theater.

That, together with Heather Cox Richardson's summary of how the preceding few years, have given me the good kind of shivers. It's horrifying, though, how many instances of "He" could be replaced, at least approximately by TFG, at first during his past term, and then anticipating his intentions should he win again. Sobering. Inspiring. Motivating, as I've come to expect and appreciate so deeply. We are not just acting--we are acting as part of a 250-year tradition that I've not felt quite so directly connected with before. Thank you.
