Paul Krugman had a Substack post today that helped me understand another HUGE element of the corruption. Trump's pardon of the former president of Honduras, a narco-terrorist convicted by an American jury of smuggling 400+ TONS of cocaine into this country over 20+ years, goes back to the oligarch-bros. They are building a private island OFF THE COAST OF HONDURAS that they call Prospera. It will be governed by no law but their own. It's for billionaires only. The pardoned prez was in on the deal, as were many members of his right-wing party. The current prez, who likely will be defeated in the ongoing election, has been trying to claw back some degree of Honduran control over Prospera. Trump and his oligarch-bros can't have that! This corruption for personal gain and the further enrichment of his pals--the Witkoffs, Jared, Sacks, Andreesen, Thiel, Musk--it's a long list but It's the constant through-line of virtually everything the Trump administration does.
Just want to update about Indiana. Today the House present a terrible map to assure Indiana will become a 9-0 R state. Marion County is the city-county capital and it has been the 7th district, but has been carved up into 4 districts, one of which extends all the way down to the Ohio River through rural and forested areas. The rural areas have been taught that cities are evil and dangerous and immoral places. However, Indianapolis is the economic engine of the state. Many groups are fighting back. We attended the No redistricting rally and many then chanted through the statehouse, while the Republicans hid behind closed doors without accountability or transparency.
Can we not call it trumpism? I don’t want to have to utter his name longer than necessary. How about MAGAism? Also the Dems are the new Conservative Party. Our entire ideological framework is being rewritten
