My point in outing him is to say that this is an opinion now held by educated Americans. We keep thinking that low information voters will be swayed by our arguments for who we should be in the world, and that's not obvious to me.

There's also a republican representative who was on CNN decrying The fact that we don't seem to be ""leaders" of the free world anymore.

But there is the debate, people don't know where the free world is, or if that's even a good thing anymore.

Americans know what Trump is and how he is incapable of governing. But Democrats need to give voters an alternative they can trust. Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris weren’t trusted for a variety of different reasons. Joe Biden beat an incumbent Trump campaigning from his basement. He was trusted. Democrats should concentrate on convincing Americans that they govern competently and support policies that will make life better for a majority of the country.

I completely agree Simon. While it was crucial to try engaging more with voters about kitchen table issues (which unfortunately the party did not do as effectively as necessary despite my lingering doubts about the honesty of the election anyway), it’s equally as foolish, especially now, for anyone in the party (or should I say, in the pro democracy movement regardless party affiliation), to downplay messaging on the health and preservation of our Democratic Republic. With all respect to you George, I think Simon has his finger on the pulse of the macro view which interestingly enough, is how most people think and can respond to. Also, George, and I think Simon would feel the same although, I don’t want to speak for him, I think Kamala actually was trusted. Though Hilary STILL was arguably the most qualified candidate we’ve seen run in recent history, she carries with her, far more baggage than Kamala. Kamala’s baggage (if any) was being linked to what was perceived to be Joe’s baggage right, wrong, or indifferent. I’ve said this before many times in this community. One does not build $1 billion in GRASSROOTS organizations (those like ours), simply because she is neither of the old white men. Those massive and vibrant crowds at the rallies (when people were literally seen walking away from Trump’), cannot and should not be discarded. It can absolutely be argued, the methods by which she received the nomination technically without a primary election. However and lest we forget, a vote for Joe in 2020 and temporarily in 2024, was also a vote for Kamala. For some, the vote was more for Kamala in 2020 than even for Joe go figure. She WAS both popular and underestimated from the get go (going back to her days in the senate when I remember distinctly feeling she had an X Factor the country needed to keep an eye out for and STILL should). There were many circumstances around Kamala that I think influenced the course of this election (not excluding Russian influence and manipulation by Elon Musk which i personally believe reached such a sophisticated level, it literally tipped the scales of the election for I will always believe Kamala actually won and that’s rare for me as I typically go against the rabbit holes of conspiracy theories and I certainly don’t expect anyone else in the community, including Simon to share my sentiment with that particular point). The Democratic Party has a flawed tendency to cast aside what they perceived ‘didn’t work’ and move on rather than move forward, encompass all aspects of the path taken which led to any given results. It didn’t simply ‘not work’ with Kamala. Should she decide to run again in 2028, the party would be foolish NOT to embrace her as a clear frontrunner. We don’t know what we don’t know and we don’t know where our country will be in four years politically, not really. She WAS the right woman at the right time and the issue wasn’t her, it was the messaging of the party around her and she simply couldn’t do it alone. That all said, we are in our most ripe position for an extraordinary comeback and we should embrace all sorts of possibilities and broaden the tent as much as possible cuz we’re gonna need the biggest tent we can build to face what’s currently coming at us. We have the upper hand more than perceived. We need to trust Simon’s intuition on that. Let’s keep it up for we have the rainbow on our side. Cliche but true! Love to you all!!! Thanks again Simon.

I don’t disagree but I’d personally like to her see her as President 2028/2032 at latest. Any later would unfortunately defy the country’s push for younger leadership. But at 60, even at 64 or 68 at latest by 2032, she still fits the mold. Though she’s not ‘old,’ she’s also a ‘young 60’ which really helps in my view.

"Anybody but MAGA" should suffice as we get further down this road of economic and democratic disaster. Democrats dont "give" Americans the alternative, he or she is elected through the primary process which is years away.

Policies would be obvious things like eliminating tariffs, eliminating DOGE, supporting Ukraine, providing a just immigration policy, and preserving, protecting and defending the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.

Not exactly rocket science.

why dont the dems keep speaking loudly about the fact that repubs and satan could pass the comprehensive immigration act that satan killed. instead of massing military on the border, etc. the logical step is to pass the bill and deal with it once and for all. so i believe the dems are negligent on not speaking to this issue directly, over and over again, saying he killed the bill. he will use immigration as a "national emergency" to trigger the insurrection act. so if the dems could message the logical, govt response to dealing with this issue, it would be better than that approach. which will lead us to an authoritarian state.

Trump is one of the most flawed candidates in U.S. history. They still voted for him. They say stuff like Dems didn't connect, but it's B.S. in my opinion. There are nasty underlying issues that they don't want to talk about that prevented them from voting for Harris.

If you want to talk about the people who didn't vote, in that case perhaps it wasn't the Dems reaching them. But the same is true of the Trump campaign.

In 2018-19 there was a 34 day shutdown because trump wanted over $5 billion for his border wall. Eventually he got about $1 billion for some fencing. I read about this shutdown in Nancy Pelosi's book, "The Art of Power". I learned this was the longest shutdown in our history. Here is more about shutdowns:

This is also one of the few times that Democrats, in the minority in both houses of Congress, have power. They should work in solidarity, demand that Trump and Musk follow the law (which would mean re-instating a lot of the people they have fired and sending out the grants they have cut off).

Democrats should shut the government down and insist that Trump/Musk follow the law and "stop acting lawlessly and unconstitutionally" (to use Simon's phrase." Put the blame on Republicans since they hold the trifecta of governance!

and lets be clear, if Democrats all withold their votes on the budget, it is still the GOP that holds the majority and also has the power to pass the budget with an unanimous vote. SO we should still argue that it was the GOP that couldn't pass their budget and the Democrats are protesting the completely unconstitutional actions of the mad king and his syncophantic GOP caucus.

Thank you so much for all of the information this morning. I've already left voice mails for my Democratic Senators and Congresswoman as I know I would not be able to get through to a live person. I've also done my contact form emails about budget negotiations underway this week. It's going to be a really long week.

The Democratic Party of Evanston as well as other Democratic Party groups along the Northshore of Chicago are holding training sessions this week called "Know Your Rights" in conjunction with the ACLU. The training sessions relate to Immigrant Rights. Students at Northwestern who are studying here from other countries are deeply stressed and fearful. There are counselors available at NU to help students manage all this stress. Here is the link to the "Know Your Rights" events:

Pushing hard with my senators this week to not approve the CR for spending unless there are concrete actions to stop the lawlessness from the administration. If they want Democratic votes, then they have to earn it.

I received a response from Blake Moore to an email I sent a couple of weeks ago. It actually doesn't even sound like a form letter. This paragraph from his response was amazing to hear:

"I hear your frustrations, and I am sympathetic to your concerns. My heart goes out to the many hardworking Utahns who are being impacted by these unanticipated changes in the federal workforce. I heard frustrations at a recent town hall in Davis County and on last week’s tele-townhall with 16,000 constituents, and I know my office phones have been ringing off the hook. I get daily briefs from my team on the information they are receiving from constituents, the Trump Administration, Hill Air Force Base, Ogden’s Internal Revenue Service, the Forest Service, and other agencies. The federal workers I interact with in Utah are tremendous public servants who have dedicated their lives and careers to important government missions. "

It was quite a bit longer than this one paragraph, but it sounds like the pressure is hitting Congress.

Today I once again called my members of Congress, speaking to staffer for Rep. Larsen but leaving messages for Senators Murray and Cantwell. Again my focus was the Letter to America. Here is today's pitch:

"I want to thank [member of Congress] for how they’ve stepped up to fight the extremism of the Trump regime. However, to meet this great historical moment, Congressional Democrats must do more. What I’m advocating is that they write a Letter to America that documents “the long train of abuses and usurpations” of the Trump regime. In the language of the Declaration of Independence, it’s time “to let facts be submitted to a candid world.” Trump is out to destroy democracy and end our constitutional republic. He and Musk are on a crime spree. Trump is violating international law by tearing up treaties with Canada and Mexico. And he’s betrayed Ukraine and aligned with Putin, a genocidal maniac. It's time for Congress TO GO BIG! We need a Letter to America to help mobilize the American people to fight for their county and their freedom!"
