This looks to be in D.C. I am fairly certain in my state you will find Democratic, local, state and federal office holders participating in the rallies.
I subscribe to an economic report from a well-respected economist who is optimistic most of the time. This economist initially heralded Trump's victory as good for the economy because of deregulation. Today, he coined the term Trump's Reign of Tariffs. I think that's a useful descriptor.
He also increased his odds of stagflation.
It's notable because this economist has been predicting a "Roaring 20s" scenario for several years. He correctly said the Fed would be able to bring down inflation without a recession when the majority were convinced we'd have a recession in 2023 and 2024.
Simon has said many times that Trump inherited a fantastic economy, and it's true. Inflation was within bad breath distance of the Fed's 2% target. I believe the economic pain is where we should focus our rhetoric.
If we focus on Trump being CORRUPT and INCOMPETENT, people will understand that the economic pain is because of Trump's self-serving corruption and all-destroying incompetence. Dump Trump!
The south is already experiencing the issue of losing immigrants. Florida is trying to make it legal for 14 year olds to work night shifts with no breaks! I CANNOT believe people want this. Bat shit crazy stuff
it's fla! repubs run it. they are sponsoring bills to let children work all hours, days, etc. to make up for losing immigrants. another brilliant plan that hurts americans.
As long as it "owns the libtards" they will gladly sacrifice their own children. When their children die from no vaccines, they say, "Well, she's better off in heaven." When their 14 year olds fall asleep in class, they'll blame the teachers. I know people think that I'm exaggerating, but I've lived with these people.
The social security website has a new disclaimer before you can log in. I saw it for the first time today, but evidently it's been there for a couple of months.
"I agree that the Social Security Administration is not responsible for the improper disclosure of any information that the Social Security Administration has provided to me or any information that is on or from my computer or other device, whether due to my negligence or the wrongful acts of others."
Strongly recommend a trip to National Museum of African American History and Culture to anyone in the Northeast. It was a tough visit (even tougher than seeing CHUDs walking around the National Mall with their Gulf of America shirts on). But I found it quite inspiring and invigorating. Lots of people before us have put more on the line to free themselves from authoritarianism and state violence. I was inspired.
Hi John - I can't wait to go and experience it. I may wait until after Trump isn't in DC anymore though. I think there is so much to learn from our Black American friends and their literal ancestry in America of overcoming. I'm definitely paying attention to history and celebrating civil rights wins over the decades. We're in THIS fight together as one people.
Thanks for posting this kitkatmia. Its on a level with Lithgow reads Snyder. We all have to work hard, cooperate with each other, and as Snyder says in point 20, be as courageous as we can.
well at least its a roadmap of sorts. we will need to learn and follow the soft revolutions in other authoritarian states. but the main lesson is that we are the calvary. and we need a leader. protests are ez now, but they will become harder. already musk/maga/proud boys are infiltrating the tesla protests. so everyone, be careful going forward. but remember we have the people on our side and there are always more of us than them.
imagine if every elected dem said this over and over! it would crystalize the situation for many who are not so involved. until one day it is true and everyone needs to decide.
Sarah Longwell of the Bulwark has been saying something that's really resonating with me. She says we all need to start sharing personal stories of how the administration has hurt us. Yesterday I posted on FB about how I will lose 45% of my income if Social Security goes away. Three friends wrote that my post had nudged them into making calls to their legislators. They had been thinking about it, but I gave them the nudge they needed. My MAGA friends stayed silent, because I was posting about my own personal situation -- and I didn't start by talking about how evil the administration is. So I think we all need to start thinking about tangible ways to post about these things on social media and to bring up in casual conversation. When someone asks me how I'm doing, I can say, "Well I'm okay but things are very stressful at work because the university has lost tens of millions of dollars. People are starting to lose their jobs and it's very frightening." I think we need to get over a reticence to talk politics, but we need to talk politics in a way that is very personal and concrete. Not fulminating against Trump, because that turns people off, but saying very clearly, *things are not normal*!
I get requests for money from easily 60 or 70 different "progressive" organizations and politicians (last county 34 different orgs in the month off March alone). WHAT IF, instead of diluting each other more every day, they all teamed up into one very strong center/center-left/left-wing organization to truly stand up to MAGA?
Within, there would be spider groups to bring different viewpoints and constituencies together.
That could be the Democratic Party, but I sure don't see it happening.
We the people are leading the leaders. I personally am following several groups and leading in a couple. More options to sting. Death by 1,000 cuts. We'll get there and we are all developing new muscles to combat this criminal regime.
I'm torn between the two strategies. Unified forces vs 1000 cuts. Hopefully they can complement each other. But your point of us leading the leaders is well-put.
Same. And today I added one of the NC Supreme Court justices who is hearing the case of Jefferson Griffin, who is trying to steal 65,000 votes and throw them out; Justice Allison Riggs won by not quite 750 votes. Tomorrow I'll call the other Republican justice.
Here in Missouri about 6 weeks ago it seemed like "our base"was saying "organize some demonstrations but be very careful about who is involved." Now they are saying "Wow, I can't keep up with all of the demonstrations." In the St. Louis area alone there have been something like 10 demonstrations, downtown to ex-urban suburbs, over the last two weeks. Small towns like St. Genevieve and Eminence are participating. Kansas City had the largest one.
‘Every business leader and K Street lobbyist will tell you that the thing they hate most is uncertainty. And once again, they have it in spades.
And this really matters: Of all Trump’s activities as president, it’s his high-risk moves on the economy which will cost him most dearly with U.S. voters if things go wrong.’
My father was a Republican (from a family that was Republican since the 1850s) and had a small business. Yet he voted for some Democrats whose policies would promote stability, such as LBJ (welfare state meant stability and even prosperity to a businessman like my father). Nothing was worse than the crazies on the extremes of either party.
Been concentrating on Susan Crawford. Two shifts yesterday, another at 3PM today. Will pick up another tomorrow on Election Day. I think she has a good chance. Also important. Jill Underly is running as Superintendent of Instruction for WI. She has done a great job with increasing academic performance for the state-with a 90.5% graduation rate-third in the US. There is also a question on the ballot concerning making WI's already restrictive ID law becoming a constitutional amendment-in other words more voter suppression-a clear cut boondoggle on the part of the Republicans. If she wins-it will be a major blow...and Elon will be shown that he cannot buy Wisconsinites...
My hubby and I did 400 Blue Wave postcards for Judge Crawford. Given the hundreds of protesters outside the venue where Elon spoke yesterday, and the relentless booing and heckling he received during his speech, I'm thinking she has a very good chance indeed.
Political Censorship and Free Speech Living in a Police State
Nazis have long been concerned about being silenced and not being able to express their conservative opinions So the diatribes go….being bullied, “thought police” But it’s not that they have been silenced it’s just that their opinions are often so outrageous that they are laughable eg Fox and Friends
So there is a Nazi attack on free speech If the Nazis don’t like what you say then it’s not free speech Complete HYPOCRISY
It’s not about free speech it’s about their protected speech….the Nazi free speech of propaganda
Networks should lose their FCC licenses Judges with differing opinions should be impeached Banning news organizations who don’t go along with the Nazi talking points Going after law firms that don’t favor the regime’s propaganda line Students with green cards who protest with differing opinions should be thrown out of the country because “they are agitators who don’t love our country” Universities should lose federal grant money if they dare speak out against the Nazi regime Take over the Kennedy Center for Continuing Arts to even control the art’s free speech and have only shows that are deemed “appropriate”
But billionaire/oligarchic Nazis protect social media such as X, Meta, and Tik Tok because it’s algorithmic, simply a machine that directs your attention It’s planned Nazi propaganda And it’s not free speech Billionaires are literally rewiring our thinking to solidify their power grab
This is what it looks like living in a dictatorship in the 21st century Fox channel is the only channel available and X will be the social media platform WAKE UP AMERICA To journalists speak truth even if it’s not neutral No one can hide anymore
Self-report: I called the offices of my members of Congress, and I reached staffers for Sen. Cantwell and Rep. Larsen. There was no getting through to Sen. Murray's office, so I left a message. I can always call back later, if I have time.
I always thank my members for what they're doing, but said Congress as a whole needed to do more. My ask was for a Letter to America. I connected the madness of King George and the Declaration of Independence to the madness of our would-be king Donald and the need for the Letter, which would be a rallying point for Americans to fight for their country and freedom, and serve as the basis for criminal referrals and amicus briefs. I also asked for daily press conferences.
I donated to the DNC. I also signed up for a Democrats Abroad Zoom call with Ken Martin on Sunday.
I continue to do a little research into Tesla and its weirdly high stock price. This video of Paul Krugman talking about the Tesla brand in 2023 was as true then as it is now:
Krugman confirms something I've been thinking. Investors seem to be treating Tesla like it will be the next Microsoft, Apple or Amazon. But think about the market dominance of those companies. Tesla has serious competition in the EV market. Right now it is a luxury brand, but a new, cheaper Model Y is supposed to be hitting the market by this summer, just in time for the recession. Car and Driver has it starting at $46,000, which is still considerably more than, say, a Prius. I just don't see Tesla taking over the automobile industry.
To me, the Tesla stock price has the feel of a bubble. I await the pop.
I follow EVs and the clean energy transition overall closely, and I agree. Tesla missed their moment to start making EVs for the masses. Now lots of companies are in that space that aren't having to transition from being a luxury niche brand, and that aren't toting all the insane Nazi salute DOGE baggage.
China's EV cars are taking over. From an AI Overview:
"China is the world's leading electric vehicle (EV) market, with companies like BYD, Nio, and Xpeng dominating the scene, and BYD even surpassing Tesla in sales in 2024. "
I talked to older voters in Mt. Dora Florida yesterday for Josh Weil's campaign. I can definitively say that everyone I talked to was aware of the potential for cuts to the social safety net, and they were worried about it.
Phone banking for his campaign tonight. I know maybe the Wisconsin race is more winnable, but if Weil makes a good showing, or even wins it, I think the impact will be very significant.
If enough people are worried about their incomes, and worried about costs, recession becomes inevitable. They hunker down from spending mode to saving mode. I keep being puzzled by economists who seem to leave room open that recession might still be avoided, because to me the vibe is all about recession.
Simon referenced stagflation. That would be bad news. The problem is that policies designed to ease a recession can feed inflation, and policies designed to tamp down inflation can feed recession.
Republicans, who don't know anything about, because they don't care about, economics, will probably try to fix stagflation with tax cuts for the rich. This will do nothing for rising unemployment and inflation.
What can you expect from a party that doesn't understand that when we put tariffs on products from, let's say China anything we buy from them under that tariff costs the American consumer more. Or that ridiculous tariffs are going to affect the stock market and people's 401k's. They are hurting their own supporters.
Yeah for some time it seemed to me that tariffs would result in stagflation. Especially when other countries put tariffs on our exports. I remember stagflation. It is ugly. It was fixed after Carter appointed Volker who raised rates to cause a deep recession that finally beat inflation.
Yeah they want to dismantle the government. The idea is a "network state", where there would, I guess, be multiple states that one could opt in or opt out of. And presumably these network states would operate using cryptocurrency.
It's stupid, crazy, and completely fucked up. But that is their idea.
grt to hear mt dora at least aware. that is good. even if josh doesnt win but gets real close it sends a strong message to repubs that satan is losing. we are in a recession. they just are always late in calling it.
A suggestion considering Trump just issued an EO to impede the April 5th rally:
An idea from a rally in a different country at a different time with a modification. Bring red, white, and blue flowers to the April 5th rallies.
Which EO is this? I haven't heard about it yet and couldn't find it.
This looks to be in D.C. I am fairly certain in my state you will find Democratic, local, state and federal office holders participating in the rallies.

Been thinking I need to run up there before JD Vance gets his hands on it.
IF, Vance keeps the museum as you saw it, I will be very surprised.
here's a plan from bulwark on path to taking back power and ending this national nightmare. interesting and thoughtful. hope link opens!!

I made my calls today. Planning on attending the 4/5 rally in San Antonio, one of 100s across the country.
