Kamala was right about everything. That is all.

They should forget about ‘saving face’. Face was irretrievably lost long ago. They should just get out.

All the groypers who supported Trump had better get ready for conscription….

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

Listen, landing in a respectable military position will likely get them laid with little effort.

Might change their brain chemistry to something more normal.

Putting a groyper in a uniform to increase their chances of sexual success is like putting lipstick on a pig. The minute that they open their traps, women will flee.

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

I have a feeling that the Israeli women soldiers they might have to collaborate with will wipe the floor with them.

Yes indeedy!

Another consequence of his madness:

“The top U.S. counterterrorism official has resigned over the Iran war, saying “Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation."

Separately, I wonder how many of us called Fetterman’s office to (loudly) tell him he had no right turning our voter information over to DOJ and DHS? After first saying he intended to vote for the SAVE Act, he announced last night he’d be voting against it. Right again, Simon. The calls matter.

Simon Rosenberg's avatar

Yes, the calls matter.

Colleen's avatar

I continue to contact Sen. Fetterman for, like him or not, he is Pennsylvania's only hope in the Senate. Keep calling PA!!

Simon, thank you for brining up Trump's insanity. I call my congressman and senators every day about Trump's mental condition because I think it is very dangerous to have a madman in the WH.

It's difficult to find the language to say, "No, really, I mean that he is really, truly, actually insane, not in touch with reality, batshit crazy," because we've all said for so long that he's nuts. But now he's really, really not functioning in the real world. And, yes, he's always lied, but now you can't even tell (and I don't think he can even tell) when he's lying and when he's just hallucinating.

One point I make in my calls is that Republicans convinced America that Joe Biden's age was an issue by bringing it up all the time. Whatever question they got asked, they made sure to say that Joe Biden was too old. I believe Democrats need to constantly bring up the fact that Trump isn't sane, that he's not in touch with reality, that he's making important decisions based on his delusions.

John Payne's avatar

You nailed exactly what I was thinking about this morning with your second paragraph. It's not a "whoah, this guy's nuts" kind of half jocular statement -- it's that he really, seriously, is gone. I genuinely think his mind is gone. It's gone. Simon's post reminded me today that his 3/14 "War Ships are coming" post wasn't about a request or demand to send ships, it was that countries "will be sending War Ships." He made up a story about a prior President. He revealed a colleague's private, serious health diagnosis. He talks about taking Cuba like "grabbing a pig-in-a-blanket from a waiter's tray" (great line Simon).

It was reading a description of yesterday's oval office meeting, combined with today's Hopium post, that really crystallized everything for me. He asked to be handed a model of a B-2 bomber so he could hug it. He said the B-2 bomber carries 200,000 pound bombs (there is no such bomb). He thinks he built it.

This man is "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office." (U.S. Const., amend XXV, § 4). Vance knows it, Wiles knows it, Rubio knows it, Hegseth . . . well certainly a majority of the cabinet know it. To quote Simon: "We are here now."

Jenny Ellsworth's avatar

Congressional Republicans want this. If they didn’t, the majority party could have started impeachment an hour after the first missile hit Iran. But they didn’t even vote to tell him no. I can only conclude that they like what they are seeing.

John Payne's avatar

I guess you must be right, since they aren't even willing to assert Congress' authority regarding war. Maybe enough of them can be convinced to do what Zelensky called for in his inaugural speech:

"I really do not want my pictures in your offices, for the President is not an icon, an idol or a portrait," he said. "Hang your kids' photos instead, and look at them each time you are making a decision." https://www.npr.org/2019/05/20/724961911/ukraines-comedian-president-takes-office-says-he-s-dissolving-parliament

They should be pounding this every single day.

Blake's avatar

Dear Simon, what do you anticipate from Thune putting the SAVE Act on the senate floor this week? I know Marc Elias is aggressively reminding us all of its extraordinary dangers should it actually pass.

Deborah Potter's avatar

While you are waiting for a response, here's some thoughts. It is nearly impossible for the SAVE Act to pass the Senate. Even if they approved a talking fillibuster, which is extremely unlikely since there are not enough votes to change the Senate filibuster rule, Democrats could add amendments ad infinitum, restarting the timeclock of the filibuster. This has been discussed widely in Hopium and in the press. "Tillis told POLITICO there’s 'no path for success.' ” https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2026/03/16/congress/save-america-act-thune-senate-vote-debate-00829442

The discussion is being called a planned failure to placate dt. https://news.bgov.com/bloomberg-government-news/senate-begins-slow-and-painful-lesson-in-failure-starting-line

Blake's avatar

Thank you Deborah

Cindy May's avatar

Thanks for this info. It is reassuring, and we just have to wait and see how it goes.

Elizabeth T.'s avatar

It is reassuring on the federal level, but NC is trying to push through its own version, which will be equally horrendous.

Rachel Poliner's avatar

Rachel Bitecofor has some interesting thoughts today about the SAVE Act. They know it won't pass; it's for posturing, complying with DT, and setting up Dems for the next big lies, for which she offers a solution. She includes some interesting data and charts, and emphasizes the importance of election-day registration - which we are still fighting for in MA, which is infuriating.

I seemed to be donating to an older House campaign I don't see now, including Tran, Whitesides, Suozzi, Bynum, etc. I cancelled that one, since it doesn't appear on our list. Is that one not a campaign for us anymore? I was giving $25/month to that I think since last September, so 7 donation periods I believe. Instead upped my contribution monthly to the Audacious Expansion Fund. Just a little bit, $10/month, but I'll do more later.

Thanks to whoever it was who is donating $50K to the Audacious Expansion Fund.

Trump is getting more obviously deranged. He appeared to be referring to Gavin Newsom as President of the US.

Gas was $4/gallon here, and from what I can tell, $5/gallon is something that is very possible if not likely in the future. Probably Trump can get down into the ~30% favorable. Might not be possible for him to go lower than that.

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

I've been checking my blood pressure with more regularity these days. I'm concerned.

Every fecking time I hear his nasal droning, trying to sound intelligent and believing he is funny, with the same limited vocab, and clear lies/delusions and confabulations, my readings go up a few points. Every time an interviewer or reporter lets him slide, doesn't press him for an answer, I have to take a deeper breath.

How can I have this blood pressure, and his is probably fine despite his fetid insides and gross outsides?

Where is the justice?

Patrick's avatar

Self care matters. I try to limit the times I think about this. A couple times as a work break during the day, and a little in the evenings. Otherwise it would drive me nuts.

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

PS: I noticed my readings get worse when I hear him repeat "Barack HUSSEIN Obama" and "Byed'n." I get nearly homicidal. I wish all his congestion and phlegm would just suffocate him already.

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

I picture Donald Pleasance in the movie "Fantastic Voyage," being suffocated by those white corpuscles which descend upon his head as he's in the ship.

Jenny Ellsworth's avatar

That scene completely freaked me out as a little kid. I had nightmares for years.

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

Yeah, Jenny. But you so wanted that guy to get it in the end.

Jenny Ellsworth's avatar

To quote the incomparable and inspiring Audre Lorde, “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”

As Simon has told us, there are millions of patriotic Americans rolling up their sleeves every day and getting to work to make sure democracy doesn’t die. And we are doing a really good job!

If you lay down your burdens for a while, the rest of us will pick them up. But if you harm your health in order to fight, you only strengthen their side, because they want that. And that is what makes self-care political warfare.

Bison Doc's avatar

To your last question, justice entirely a human construct. It doesn't exist in the feral world that he inhabits. I think Patrick has some good advice. As soon as I hear the nasal droning and snuffling I turn off the TV.

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

I know. It's really my responsibility to take care of myself.

The cosmic injustice just sometimes feels overwhelming.

Thanks, all!

Susan Dieterlen's avatar

Thank you so much for this heartening (and terrifying, but it's still 2026, so of course) post!

The Elliott post title about trump losing the white working class brought tears to my eyes.

What a delightful interview w Mary Peltola, which I just got to yesterday. I just got a little packet in the mail from AK Dems, which included a detailed and inspirational newsletter and a cool fridge magnet along w the usual $ solicitation. :) Also enjoyed the interview w Mayor Cognetti, who is a badass. And our own Sen. Booker brought the righteous anger last night on Maddow.

Headed to Staples to buy my posterboard! Ezra said yesterday that No Kings III is now officially the largest organized protest ever! Everybody grab someone and bring 'em with you. No kings!

Keep going!

Jenny Ellsworth's avatar

Are you making a new sign? I still like mine from No Kings 2, but I have been wondering if I need a new one. Mine says “Science = Prosperity Health Security,” and the other side says “We are American Patriots” under a US flag. I love taking back the flag as a goal.

John Payne's avatar

It's seeing people like Mary Peltola stepping up that gives me hope. Agree, she is just genuine and grounded.

SW's avatar

same, I liked both very much. also good to see Mary Peltola's donations ticking up.

Brilliant piece (again), Simon. Couple thoughts (neither my own originally). I would not be in the

least surprised that the previous president Trump "spoke to" was, in his mind, Trump 45. Remember Trump called C-Span with his old alias John Barron--the same name he used for years to plant stories on himself in the tabloids. Truth over lies. Another factor in empowering us all to smash through Trump's alternate reality is the smartphone. You can't lie to people who have seen the truth in verified videos. How there can't be a handful of GOPs to start impeachment is, still, hard for me to accept. But I do. Our nation would be doing great under Kamala.

SW's avatar

yes! I was trying to guess which one he is having imaginary conversations with - Maybe Nixon, didn't think of T45

Charles McCabe's avatar

As I was contacting my Rep and Senators today, I was thinking about two things:

The line from the old Talking Heads song: "Our president is crazy...did you hear what he said?" and the movie "The Death of Stalin" where his inner circle attack and compete with one another for power following his demise. Trump has long been surrounded by a cult of personality and as is long documented by Simon and Hopium members, it's really biting him in the ass now. Unfortunately, it's even worse for us in the US. I urged my Rep and senators to push another vote of war powers resolution language and to continue fighting for we the people. This is utter madness.

Anne Bear's avatar

You know the writers of Death of Stalin are upset that they didn't think of the shoe thing.

Charles McCabe's avatar

Great, great point....

Jo Kurtz's avatar

Is there no reality check person? Or are they all so enamored with their new shoes that they are keeping their mouths shut? And we lost Denmark as an ally? It is certainly a dangerous state of affairs. 47 may be bombing but will do nothing because this is turning into an economic war.

Tamara Reus's avatar

Thank you for this post today, Simon. It's clear you are angry--we're all angry-- but you have perfectly encapsulated what is going on and how insane and delusional he is. The cracking dam cannot hold back the water much longer, or as I like to say, the house of cards is teetering towards collapse. Maybe No Kings Day next week will be the push it takes to knock it all down!

One solution, as it has been from his first campaign, is for congressional Republicans to grow spines.

But the best they can do is abandon ship, like Tillis and Greene, or be "concerned," like Murkowski and Collins.
