That's who we need in every seat!

Ramirez rocked that hearing today. Noem could barely crack a smile through her facial fillers.

Kent Boyer's avatar

I think she might be smiling, but the Botox prevents us from seeing it. :)

Jerry Minkoff's avatar

Ooh, suh-NAP, Mr. Boyer!

Also, it isn't mean if it's true.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

Really? You think it's OK to make fun of someone for, say, being fat or having a disability if they really are fat or have a disability?

Jerry Minkoff's avatar

Not at all. Her appearance and apparent inability to smile is entirely due to procedures she chose to have done to her face.

Jerry Minkoff's avatar

Kristy Noem is overseeing monstrous acts every day. She doesn't deserve anyone's sympathy. A comment about her alleged inability to smile is pretty minor. It's not like we're calling her "piggy."

Don't forget that she shot a puppy.

Kent Boyer's avatar

Hi Susanna - I actually teach college students DEI and am very very sensitive to name-calling and demeaning others. I'm afraid in the case of Trump and his evil and immoral sycophants, a harmless joke among family about a woman who deliberately makes herself look like a living Barbie in combat gear and poses for photo ops with guns etc. doesn't rise to the level of what you've suggested. I'm sorry if I offended you but she is an awful smug human being.

KBH's avatar

As Trump once said, "SO MUCH WINNING!"

He said there'd be so much winning that Rs would be sick of it. Well, D's are winning now and we'll NEVER be sick of it.

Wonderful. So I gather different House efforts are out there to impeach Noem, Hegseth, and RFK, Jr. Fantastic!

ArcticStones's avatar

No. Please save impeachments for when we have the votes. In the meantime, humiliate them at hearings – such as what was just done in a masterful way. Here is the recipe:

– Ask a tough question

– Get their lie on the record

– Hammer them with hard evidence they’re lying

Steve Adams's avatar

Wow! Rep. Dalia Ramirez...boom goes the dynamite!

Patrick's avatar

So how about also impeaching a few SC justices (who, b t w, don’t deserve to be called “just”)?

Deborah Potter's avatar

Supreme Court Justices can be impeached, and articles of impeachment for current justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito have already been introduced. https://ocasio-cortez.house.gov/media/press-releases/ocasio-cortez-introduces-articles-impeachment-against-justice-thomas-and

ArcticStones's avatar

Impermissible thoughts, perhaps. But a few years ago I sincerely hoped the Covid pandemic would change the composition of the Supreme Court.

Just watched the Noem woman in front of congress. Dan Goldman for AG ?

Karen G's avatar

I agree! Dan Goldman would make a gifted AG!

Mary Ann Brown's avatar

Dan Goldman is a fantastic attorney and member of Congress.

Representative Ramirez makes me proud to be a resident of Illinois. She is like a bulldog who has seized a bite of Noem's tailored slacks and will not let go. And I mean that in the most flattering way possible. Her every speech says, "DO NOT F*CK WITH MY CONSTITUENTS." So proud of her.

John Payne's avatar

She's not playing. That was real and justified outrage on her part.

Kent Boyer's avatar

You must have misunderstood my post. I admire her outrage and doggedness.

John Payne's avatar

No I got that! I was agreeing with you, but didn't express it as clearly as I could have.

I didn't mean "She's not playing" as disagreeing with anything you said, but as a way of affirming and adding to what you were saying.

Kent Boyer's avatar

Oh, sorry John. I agree. Rep. Ramirez doesn't play. She is serious as a heart attack and you know Barbie is afraid to meet with her. LOL

John Payne's avatar

Ha! Oh, to be a fly on the wall for that meeting

Kent Boyer's avatar

I bet she never lets herself be alone anywhere - that smug couldn't hold up one to one.

I'm SO proud to live in Illinois with all of our elected representatives, who are fighting the fight every single day, along with so many of our residents, who are stepping up against this evil cruelty. Among them: Senator Tammy Duckworth, Governor JB Pritzker, Attorney General Kwame Raoul, U.S. Judge Sarah Ellis---I could go on and on, but at the moment I'll add Representative Ramirez to the courageous mix. They're all inspirational, smart, and savvy, and are leading the way in this fight for democracy, the Constitution, habeas corpus and the rule of law, and accountability.

Kent Boyer's avatar

I totally agree, Shelley. One of the reasons I moved here 18 months ago was because I wanted to finally live in a state that valued other human beings that weren't White and native. I have not been disappointed!

Shelley Riskin's avatar

I'm so glad you feel that way, Kent. I'm a lifelong Chicagoan, and proud of my city. Of course we have problems (corrupt politicians, anyone?) But we care about our citizens, no matter what ethnicity, religion, or gender, and so many neighbors, both in the city and in the suburbs (where ICE terrorized poor and affluent neighborhoods) have fought back, whether with whistles or recordings or reporting or warnings---whatever it took to combat these criminals (I'm sure that some of them are Jan. 6 insurrectionists.) I'll bet you're one of those courageous neighbors! (I have a whistle on my key chain at the ready---as you know, ICE is coming back in March, right around our primaries.)

I called her office to thank her.

I live in Illinois, and our church has been partnering with another local church and social service agency to aid 2 migrant families bussed up here by Abbott. The father was kidnapped ( working 6 days a week)

We found him and are hopeful of a release soon. He was lucky to have churches backing him and hiring a lawyer. The trauma this regime inflicts on all of us everyday will be felt for years.

I am glad we have some brave MOC s in congress.

Shelley Riskin's avatar

Martha, it's wonderful to read about all of the churches, synagogues (my own synagogue is very active in helping migrants) mosques, social services, etc; who are taking a stand for humanity and decency. This type of involvement is the only way we'll get rid of the lunatic Criminal in Chief, his "junk drawer," sadistic and ignorant cabinet, and the entire traitorous regime.

I love Rep. Dalia Ramirez!! She hit it out of the ball park. She speaks for all of us.

Kate Feldman's avatar

WOW What a fabulous woman!! We gotta keep our eyes on her. She's a rock star. Not afraid to speak.

Thanks Simon for posting this. I was so heartened tonight!

Charlie's avatar

I would like to see this clip circulated to every Congressional Democrat. A few of them don't exactly need it, but Rep. Ramirez has just set a new standard.

Carrie Goode's avatar

That congresswoman from Illinois is outstanding!! More of this PLEASE!

Elaine Gordon's avatar

Utterly Superb!!! You are right, Simon - Rep. Ramirez and others showed everyone how it’s done!

Bad day for the baby man = very very good day for us. The best news is Kilmar Abrego Garcia going free. They put him through hell, just because they could.

I continue to think about the truth social post the little orange goblin posted recently about his cognitive tests. I read from this post getting into specifics, and this description rings true. His decline is accelerating, and would not be at all surprised to see posts tonight that once again go to another level.

"The most revealing section is the obsessive monologue about cognitive exams. Trump repeats the claim that he “aced” the tests. He describes taking them before “large numbers of doctors.” He insists that few people could do what he did.

A cognitively confident person does not talk this way.

A stable leader does not talk this way.

A healthy adult does not fixate on a dementia screening tool.

This is cognitive anxiety, not cognitive strength.

When someone fears decline, they cling to symbols of competence. For Trump, that symbol is a simple cognitive test he now treats like an Olympic event. "

"Very few people could do what he did" can be taken another way. Like, I couldn't flunk a 2nd grade math test, but he surely could LOL.

The American people demand to see Little Donald’s elementary school graduation records!

What's the difference between Letitia James and a ham sandwich? A grand jury won't indict Letitia James.

Lisa Iannucci's avatar

Thank you! Agree on all points! Rep. Goldman also was en fuego. Do not mess with Dan! And Rep. Bennie Thompson was also badass. "Sir, I know you didn't come here to lie to me. But you just did." BAM!

Pamela Barroway's avatar

Goldman is da bomb! NY is lucky to have him as a rep. (As an aside, I just CAN'T with Lander planning to try and primary him in '26. WTH 😡)

Betsy's avatar

I don't understand why? Does anyone in his district understand his reasoning? I thought Goldman is doing a good job?

Charlie's avatar

Bennie Thompson was being diplomatic. Of course the regime mouthpiece came intending to lie.

Lisa Iannucci's avatar

He was being snarky, Southern passive aggression. :)
