Thank you, Simon for this compelling explanation on the importance of the Nov. 7th election in Virginia! Seniors Taking Action is getting addresses from Postcards4VA and prioritizing the Virginia election for our postcarding from now until October 20th, the last day for mailing. We eagerly look forward to your speaking to our members next Wednesday morning at 11 ET. Diane Dodge
I’m so glad you talked about this today, Simon! And thanks for asking for us to contribute other ways to help. Can I ever! I’ve got a whole resource doc filled with every postcarding, letter writing, and phonebanking campaign I know of in VA. I add to it weekly. All of these campaigns need more volunteers. The doc is here https://tinyurl.com/SOSinVA and I truly hope everyone will find a way to help. There’s also a link in there to my VA States Project Giving Circle. I’m trying to raise 20K for them and I’m over halfway there but time is running out! Please give if you can--the States Project knows EXACTLY how to turn that money into votes in VA. I’m with you, Simon--there’s no overstating how important this election is.
And here's a list of events that MD Moms Demand Action is prioritizing; many are led by other organizations. Please join in! Note that we are careful to not say that the elections are on 11/7....Early voting begins on 9/22 and we want to encourage voters to cast their ballots well in advance of 11/7.
Day 1 Voting is the key - Mat, you might want to check this out and share; it was created specifically for Virginia based on the value of early voting:
VA Senate and House elections are critical for many reasons. Among them: retain control of the Senate and regain the House...or risk having the legislature pass measures which rollback hard fought, important gun violence prevention measures passed in 2020-21. Volunteers from Moms Demand Action in VA (and MD and DC) are canvassing, phone banking, and sending postcards. Opportunities can be found here: https://gunsensevoter.org/events/
Thank you for focusing on the VA elections. So much is at stake--women’s reproductive, lgbtq+, and voting rights. Plus we want to ensure there is no book banning and no loosening of gun safety laws. We also don’t want Youngkin to succeed. He’s putting millions of $$ in the state legislature and school board races (please remember to vote for school board candidates). If he wins, it will put him in a clear path to run for president. He is no moderate and we don’t want him to FL our VA. I work for an organization that helps too tight election and we Phonebank and canvas + more .Please volunteer as much as you can and sign up here, https://ssprogressiveaction.org/event-directory/
Please join us on 9/18 at 7:30 pm and hear from 2 great VA House of Delegates candidates. Learn what’s at stake in the VA elections and find out how you can help flip these seats blue so we can save reproductive rights and our freedoms! #Elections2023 https://x.com/sspaction1/status/1701935965353267417?s=46&t=nr2n_n5w45zBpCMqbdbVlA.
Working hard for Virginia through The States Project ReSisters Giving Circle. Virginia is the only southern state to still offer access to abortion, but every important issue is at stake. State races are often won by a few hundred or few thousand votes. The States Project supports the candidates most likely to succeed and help shift power. VA candidates are energetic and enthusiastic. You can have real impact.
So many great possibilities for Virginia! Here's another -- 31st Street SwingLeft is working hard in VA. We're canvassing every weekend, raising money, writing letters and postcards. Join us!! Check out our website at www.31st street.org for opportunities! Come to our Virginia fundraiser on September 26th at 7PM. The link is on our website. These races in VA can be won or lost by a handful of votes! We need you!!!
Sorry I haven't come up with a better idea, but Cavalry has a negative association for me, particularly with respect to the treatment of Native Americans.
“The cavalry” is an often-used metaphor referring to the quickest or strongest means of resolving a situation (in one's favour).
IMO Really fits the writers use for actions Hopium Chronicles does to “ surge” a quick GROUP/TEAM, action-oriented response towards a specific situation/goal/win.
Also seems a fun way to rise up the team to prioritize a quickly approaching need VS a longer term project. I still love writers use and am board with adopting💃
I love the grassroots - more please! All these wonderful, passionate groups and warriors for justice and women's rights! Let's do this - we need to win to protect our rights in Virginia.
Please do not forget the great work of Vote Forward. Thousands of people are writing letters to Virginia voters urging them to get out and vote. These letters will be mailed beginning October 1 up until October 31. I myself have 400 and counting, ready to go. And I am not alone. Vote Forward’s letter writing campaigns have proven effective in past races. They deserve greater recognition.

You guys rock rock rock!
Thank you so much for getting the Hopium Cavalry headed to Virginia to help Dems there stave off a Republican takeover of our General Assembly. I encourage everyone to follow Blue Virginia (www.bluevirginia.us) to track how the election is going. I recently profiled one of the most important and inspiring State Senate races and am planning to cover several others as well: https://open.substack.com/pub/kindler/p/a-marquee-race-in-virginia-the-woman?r=f5mz&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post
Love it: “ Hopium Calvary”!!!!
(Action/ executing) Riders of HOPE+ Planning 🙌🏻🙌🏻
"Hopium Cavalry" could stick. What do we think peeps?
I like it a lot. Made me think of Teddy Roosevelt when anti-trust and progressive ideas were still welcome in the Republican Party.
Sorry I haven't come up with a better idea, but Cavalry has a negative association for me, particularly with respect to the treatment of Native Americans.

I am signed up for weekly phonebanks and sending 1500 postcards for 2 rural campaigns.

This explains why Republican legislatures are so hot to limit early voting--they’re engaged in yet another form of voter suppression.

Busy writing get-out-the-vote postcards for Virginia. It's a great way to feel you are engaged in making a difference for democracy!😊
What a powerful ad and such great insights. Thank you! Just made another contribution to The Wednesday Group Giving Circle which is now raising money for Virginia Democratic candidates. https://www.grapevine.org/giving-circle/PdWhQ1q/The-Wednesday-Group
