Friends, I find these kinds of "hey you guys need to go do this" kind of stuff arrogant and unhelpful. We can make suggestions to others in our family without sounding like a scold or condescending. Folks in campaigns know a lot more about how to talk to voters than most people on this site - and we've been winning a lot of elections recently - so please a bit more humility.

To be clear we won voters who made less than $100,000 by 13 points in 2020. I have not unfairly attacked you. I just asked that when you engage here you do with greater respect of others in the family. If this is not something you can do then perhaps this is not the right place for you.

Breaking News: President Joe Biden and the Democrats are forcing Donald Trump to carry his responsibility for Dobbs and the GOP’s extreme abortion views ... to full term!

Nine months – two months with rapidly rising Biden numbers, seven months to go. :)

I am absolutely gobsmacked by the huge turnout drivers Democrats and democratically-minded voters have just been handed in Florida and Arizona!

This will have huge consequences up and down the ballot. For example, I think the longevity of Rick Scott’s Senate career just suffered a mortal blow. (Continued Democratic control of the Senate means President Biden can keep appointing judges – and, hopefully, a replacement for one of the unsuited SCOTUS reactionaries currently dressed in a black robe.)

.

Rachel Maddow has a scathing analysis of Trump’s abortion video – or rather the toothless media coverage of it.

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/4/9/2234265/-Rachel-Maddow-dissects-pathetic-media-coverage-of-Trump-s-abortion-video

.

Worth noting: In many states, supreme court judges are elected. Bolts Magazine has a wonderful overview of where they are on the ballot this year. The article has a nice map. Let’s fight to rid America of extremist judges!

The NYT featured today a Pew research report on the electorate entitled Changing Partition Coalitions in a Politically Divided Nation that found that more registered voters since 2020 have been leaning Republican vs. Democrat compared to 2020 when they were more evenly split between the two parties. The report said: "Where the electorate overall is equally divided between those who align with the GOP or Democratic parties, a greater share of registered voters say they are both ideologically conservative and associated with the Republican party (33%) than say they are liberal and align with the Democratic party (23%)." The key gains they identify in the GOP are in voters without a college degree, rural voters and white evangelical voters. I know we should worry less and do more - and I am doing more - but the Pew Research organization is very well respected and rigorous so this really worried me. Should I not worry?

I don’t know enough to comment specifically on the study but in general (1) when voters actually vote we’ve been kicking their ass lately and (2) do more, worry less! Find a volunteer opportunity and help overcome any real or perceived demographic challenges!

Perhaps a significant portion of those self-ascribed conservative voters believe in good old-fashioned conservative values ... such as democracy?

Worry less but don't get complacent... because, my sense of politics in my 66 years of lifetime, when a Democrat is in the White House, the registered number of Republicans go up as they get all outraged and activitated and the opposite is also true. There is a sense of counter weighting the current party 'in power' as President. Policies flip back and forth and so does engagement. What IS engaging Democrats, Republicans and Independents this year is voting to increase access to abortion, across party affiliations. Yes we need to register Democrats to vote, we do the work. Yes of course.

Plus, I still in my gut have to ask with polling... who answers their phone anymore to answer questions from polsters? Older conservatives, that is who. My phone silences anyone calling that is not in my contact list. So, I know that I don't ever answer pollsters anymore and I know young people don't either, so... polling is nuanced now more so than at any other time in history. Listen more to the word on the street. The rumble is about restrictions on women of reproductive age getting access to health care.

Simon, thanks for the deep dive with Anna ! Yes, we have momentum but much work to do.🌊

Many in Florida still have NO idea. As Anna mentioned, tell those tragic stories that need to be heard. And call out your politicians on their extremism. 📣✍️📲 Members of my local GOP Exec Committee stated adoption was the “humane” compromise for a woman or child who is the victim of rape or incest!😡

More proof that, after the Ziegler threesome scandal, the Florida GOP continues to implode!

“A leader of the Florida Republican Party reported missing by his family was kicked out of a hotel in Kissimmee for “excessive drinking” and trashing his room, according to an Osceola County Sheriff’s office report.”

Regarding children of incest.

An article appeared on my feed (sorry I don’t remember the source but an internet search should do the trick) that recent DNA studies reveal there’s a lot more “people who are the product of incest” in this country than we ever would have imagined.

Not only is that heartbreaking it’s deeply concerning. Inbreeding (resulting in offspring of closely related individuals) leads to all kinds of genetic anomalies.

That Arizona’s law does not make exceptions for incest is not only draconian - it’s cruel. Children born with lifelong conditions (missing limbs, heart problems, autoimmune diseases, etc) and parents (no, make that mothers) who will be responsible caring for them.

On the upside is that Republicans continue to shoot themselves in the foot. Women have power and Arizona is about to find out how much!

(Thanks President Biden!)

💪💙

Judy, thank you for the reminder of yet another tragic outcome of these draconian bans. I will look for the article.

I’m a retired maternal/child health care professional and domestic violence victim advocate.I’ve been successful getting this Letter to Ed and similar published and wanted to share my view as a pro-reproductive healthcare adoptee.⬇️

Members of the local Republican Executive Committee would have you believe adoption is the “humane compromise” for a woman or child who becomes pregnant as the result of rape or incest.

A woman or child who faces such a traumatic, forced pregnancy may have the option to: 1)carry the pregnancy to term, or,2) have a medical procedure to terminate the pregnancy. Some may have absolutely no say in the decision, including those who have been human-trafficked.

Fetuses cannot be adopted.Birth mothers have rights up to and after delivery.

Adoption is an option only once there is a living child. If a person carries a pregnancy to term, even if this decision was not freely chosen, the decision is to :1)parent the child, or,2) relinquish the child for adoption.

Many birth mothers who suffer the life-long trauma of relinquishment,as well as adoptees, should not be used as political pawns.

And please stop telling adoptees they should be grateful they weren’t aborted. This “pro-life” gaslighting only serves to promote a false equivalence.

Yes,women have power and the entire country is about to find out !

💪💙

I loved your interview with Anna. I left Florida last year after 6 years there, and I left with a bitter taste in my mouth that the state seemed totally hijacked by MAGA. Though I've left, I still care about what happens there, and people like Anna give me hope for a restoration of sanity.
