Gov Tim Walz of MN said in this vid “It is not about banking political capital for the next election, it is about burning political capital to improve peoples’ lives”!
Having read the story this morning, and now seeing the video of this "unimaginable Russian war crime," to add to other unfathomable ones over the past 16 months (and more of which I am unaware since 2014) — how is it that the world watches idly? Myself included.
What I have seen on Instagram makes me sick to my stomach. Old people, women, children and animals struggling to survive. It is hard to watch. I'm glad President Biden is supportive of Ukraine. Putin is a danger to the world and needs to be removed from power right away. The Ukrainians remind me so much of all of us: they are funny, joyful and creative. They deserve democracy and peace. We have to continue support.
Congratulations to Minnesotans! We need to see other states follow their example. We need to keep registering voters, donating, writing postcards, encouraging candidates to run for office. Looking forward to more success stories like that of Minnesota in other states!
Quiet summer? If we are lucky! SCOTUS will drop opinions this month, and could put the final nail in democracy’s coffin. Fingers crossed that they step back from the brink.
To all active Democrats who read Simon here, I read a Tom Hartmann piece this morning about reframing the Republican's "woke" term. Every time you get a chance to write something or talk to people use "woke" as another term for "pro-bigot." It is an interesting article.
And, no Simon, this summer will not be quiet. With the Saudi's Merger with the PGA (a Trump triumph), the crazies in congress are still at tying to paint Biden as if he is like Trump (oil and water) and the team of Republican's running with their "wokeness." It won't be a quiet summer.
Simon, thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting the video of Tim Walz talking about this legislative session. I’ve spent most of my career working on climate issues. There has been no greater thrill for me over the last 40 years than watching my former boss standing beside Gov. Walz as Walz signed the 100% renewable energy standard into law early last Spring. By 2040, our grid will carry 100% renewables!
But the good news kept coming- protecting women’s access to healthcare. Protecting access to gender affirming care. Restoring voting rights to formerly incarcerated people. There was more hut you all get the picture.
My immediate neighbor is a Trump-loving Republican. Her husband is dying, and they are dependent on SS. She rails against Biden all the time. Those conversations are always tough but I walk away knowing two things: they are better off with the giant SS increase the Dems secured before the 2022 elections, and they live in Minnesota. We have their backs, like it or not.

I believe most Americans understand and want that too.
What the Russians did to the dam and its monstruous consequences for the nuclear facility and the people of this whole area is beyond words.
