It’s amazing what can happen when a competent & effective government does their part, and sets a stage for the most innovative entrepreneurs and well trained laborers in the world to do their part. We all have a role to play and the Republican talking points about Government vs Private Sector are so completely outdated and pathetically superficial in the complex global economy that they can scarcely be taken seriously at all anymore. It isn’t about more government or more private......the modern age (and has since the freaking Great Depression) that government do what only government can do well, and private sector do what only it can do well.....the sweet spot of that intersection has been met repeatedly under D administrations since the 90s......jury isn’t still out.....it’s a unanimous verdict

Thanks so much! Once more. Another factor in Republicans' inability to create widespread prosperity (even when they have organizations with names like "Americans for Prosperity" ) is their allegiance to market fundamentalism. This is explored in length AND depth in The Big Myth by Naomi Oreskes and Erick M. Conway. Probably most readers of Hopium Chronicles have either read it or read about it, but if you haven't I highly recommend it. Oreskes and Conway are not attacking capitalism; they are attacking unregulated "free" market capitalism. That's nothing new; what's new in this book is a detailed history of how market fundamentalism from the early 1900s onward became an article of faith among the Right and is given credence by many in the political center.

Thanks providing the great news and messaging. I think going forward we could and should start saying "ANOTHER Great Jobs and Economic Report courtesy of Joe Biden and the Democratic Party". It's the truth and we should be proud and say it loud.

This happened to me on a Facebook post. So I dug in and added Reagan's numbers and dem job creation was still about 72% of all jobs, even though dems held office 17.3 years vs. 24 years for repubs.

Then the next MAGA attacked and said we can't count Trump's final year or Biden's first year because of COVID (I actually agree on this one). So I dug deeper and dems had created 59% of the jobs, even though they held office for 16.3 years compared to repubs with 23 years.

The MAGA response to that? "Well it just goes to show how bad Bush 1 and 2 were."

I replied with the moving goalposts gif and that was the end of the thread, no R's came back after that. One of my favorite FB posts of all time.

Good for you!!! Held firm with facts. Just continue while staying positive. I LOVE reading the posts here cuz like this and others ( Steve is a fav, lol) We share and support these tiny victories. These DO lead to bigger ones! Maybe not specifically those you are challenging, BUT your confidence gives them pause and causes critical thinking gears to grind again. Way to go!

I suggest balancing that exercise with like find new voters to register that don’t need all that mental gymnastics to persuade. Then you can feel MASSIVE accomplishment on two fronts for our democracy!

Your post has made my morning! Thanks for sharing Hug from NC

Another great piece today. With Dems things get better, even your updates. I think we could use a couple of quick links between actual policy or political actions taken and the economic good news. We are used to saying that the President doesn't control the ups and downs in the economy--partly as protection against one-offs that are really out of his or her short term control. But Biden's resistance to using the usual methods of fighting inflation--reducing employment--proved a real winner this time. Are there other interventions or non- that clearly show how specific actions taken have produced those 40MM jobs (getting ahead of myself a bit)?

HI Simon. Thank you for all your great work. Perhaps you have done this calculation somewhere else but would like to see tfg numbers up to 12/31/19. For me, this comparison stripes out any arguments that tfg was doing a great job up to the pandemic.

Thank you Simon! I feel the public discourse is slowly changing. Bidenomics is now becoming a positive title. We have to keep spreading the news.

Compelling results and highly skillful presentation. Wondering how Ds can systematize voter registration for young voters-? In the central MD county I lived in for a few years, the local D group did such on its own. I am unaware of the State party complementing this effort. So, I am thinking out loud about the prospect of the state parties undertaking this. Sound feasible??

Here is another exclamation point.

Just thought to share link to Victor Shi interview of NoLie Brian Tyler Cohen. It is great and really speaks to CWCW and Hopium Chronicles as how building our relationships in our circles and spreading factual info awakens voters. Hope u all enjoy and share!
