It is good to see the president taking the offensive on immigration at the border, but disappointing that nothing was said about that subject in the 2023 list of accomplishments. Surely there were things done by the administration, without congressional action, that were worth talking about.

why Mike? Why must on a short list must everything be there? Why are you disappointed, and leading with frustration, glass half empty? In a year where so much went right, not everything did, and it gives us things to work on in 2024. As a general matter defaulting to frustration when so much is going right - and the Administration is ably engaging now on the issue - is in my mind something we all have to learn how to get over. We can be frustrated, disappointed in things but slow to share that sentiment with others when there are far more constructive ways to engage in this community and others. Our default should be in lifting people up, lifting Biden up, lifting American up not being disappointed, frustrated.

Not frustrated! Very optimistic! And glad to see lots more attention to immigration from the president and his staff. BUT in a year when the Republicans want to make this into an issue (despite their failures to deal with it in Congress), it certainly isn't too much to ask the campaign to include something about that issue in their 2023 list of accomplishments. That isn't frustration, but constructive input!

Check this out Simon. Use it as is or maybe make a quick vid yourself that is similar. Talk about the pillars of Hopium including plan & action. That way you can always link back to it as reminder of what us Info Warriors should be doing to make ‘good trouble’ for Maga while boosting Biden.

Thanks Robert Reich and team for their relentless & quality content. Maybe an interview with him would be great! Keep up the GREAT WORK Simon!!!!!!!!!! You are crushing it!!!!!!!!

There is all this talk about supporting Ukraine and Israel and the costs of that support. How much was the US spending in Afghanistan and how does that compare to the support we are giving these 2 countries that were both attacked and where we have no troops and therefore no American lives at risk. The numbers sound huge, but we are no longer supporting troops in a dangerous land.

American foreign aid is tiny. In surveys people think it is huge, and when asked say it should be limited to like 10% of our budget! ( this would be way more than we currently spend! ) it's actually less than 1%.

Well, I don’t know about everyone else, but watching President Biden make political pundits and media figures (both right and left) eat shit sandwiches by repeatedly defying their low expectations of him has been a source of great delight for me since the 2020 primaries, and greatly meaningful to play a small role in helping his successes come to pass. This year will be the most satisfying of all by a mile. #GameOn 🇺🇸😎

I would so appreciate your opinion regarding any threats from the RFK campaign to derail Biden’s voter base. Also, what impact will this sham “impeachment” create? I realize the MAGA base is desperate and inventing distractions, and I am focusing upon the positive, but these two issues create some concern. Thank you Simon

Simon, your ears should have been burning over the holidays as I (and many others, I suspect) recommended Hopium Chronicles to family and friends.

One of my wishes for 2024 is that more Democrats in the House and Senate will considerably step up their game in praising Team Biden-Harris. This morning, I wrote my Congressman Jerry Nadler: "Over the holidays, I received your 2023 End of Year newsletter touting your legislative accomplishments but I was dismayed you didn't credit President Biden's remarkable leadership for any of these; in fact, his name is no where to be found on either side of the piece. I'd argue your silence (and that of too many of your colleagues) in failing to trumpet President Biden's extraordinary successes is one of the reasons his poll numbers aren't better. Please be a team player, loud and proud, in supporting Team Biden-Harris - it's in all of our collective interests."

The most important thing we can do in the election of 2024 is to educate young people about the importance of voting, democracy, and to personalize that message. Young people, are increasingly informed by social media, filled with miss information, so it is up to us to correct that. Using humor is helpful, making it personal is even more important! Register young people, talk to young people, explain how losing democracy will affect them on a personal level, and start now!

I just saw replies to my comment on last night's post by Joyce Vance, "A Warning." A commenter was complaining about how Democrats don't promote their accomplishments enough. I posted, "Deploy Simon Rosenberg's positive information!" And gave the link to a recent Hopium post. Three different people commented that they subscribed. Satisfying! Joyce now has 200,000 subscribers.

Vance's "A Warning" clarified for me why so many of our youth are disconnected from politics. How do we break through the algorithmic wall?

Eric,

Groups like Laura Brill’s The Civic Center ( and others) believe a lack of youth voting a “ voter suppression “ issue not an area of voter apathy. Recommend reading her newly posted article on Substack. Colorado’s work in this area so impressive.

Lauras passion, resolve and determination so inspiring. Hope you enjoy.

I’m glad to see Biden leaning in on freedom in these first days of the general election. Democrats are now the party of freedom, patriotism and love of country. Republicans are the party of cruelty, treason and Putin. Every voter needs to know that Trump winning means you will be less free.

Thank you, Simon. I was recently at a gathering of local NC activists, and a state rep asked what the top 5 issues for messaging should be. I responded, "Abortion. Abortion. Abortion. Abortion, and abortion." I know there are others, but the loss of freedom to make healthcare decisions for ourselves and our children, without government interference, resonates with folks across the spectrum. I also think it may be a way to bring wanderers (especially the young) back to the Democrats. It is a concrete issue, a reason to vote as if their lives depend on it. Because that's actually the truth.

I often forward Simon's newsletter. One 95 year old long time progressive advocate was so impressed with the Biden List of Accomplishments, she sent it out to her friends and suggested we order batches from the campaign and pass them out. Other responses were equally positive.

However, I did not see these listed on Biden's campaign website, only the changing coffee mug when you donate. I'm sure they are there somewhere.

Sometime between Monday and this afternoon, it looks like Postcards to Voters distributed all their addresses for both their Tom Keen and Tom Suozzi campaigns. PTV has promised another campaign for Suozzi which will focus on voters who are not likely to be requesting absentee ballots. Activate America is still distributing names and addresses for their Suozzi campaign, but I'm not as confident about their targeting.

In the meantime, there are lots of opportunities to phone bank for Tom Keen pretty much daily until the special election on the 16th. You can also phone bank for Tom Suozzi several times a week. Check out Mobilizde to find a time convenient for your schedule.

There is still a little time in NY to register to vote before the special election (see https://vote.gov/register/ny/}, so you could also get some names and addresses from Field Team 6 for their NY-03 registration campaign (which I am pretty sure was intended for the Nov election originally).
