Biden: More Freedom or Less Freedom, "So Do The Right Thing," 48m Dem Jobs
New poll gives Biden strong marks on Israel-Hamas with Dems, young people
Friends, a few things for a warm, beautiful day in Washington, DC:
My favorite stat right now - In the last 4 Presidential elections, Democrats have averaged 51% of the vote, Republicans 46%. That’s 51%-46% (+5). It’s best Presidential run for the Democratic Party since FDR’s 4 elections from 1932 to 1944, and sure suggests that America is today a center-left nation. You can find more Hopium electoral stats here.
My second favorite stat right now - Since 1989, when a new age of globalization began, 50 million jobs have been created in America. 48 million of those jobs, 96%, have been created under Democratic Presidents. Essentially all of them. You can find more Hopium econ and other stats here.

A Fun Moment From the APEC Summit - via the Chinese government…the text from the Tweet reads (sorry, yes, Elon makes it hard to screenshot tweets):
Pointing to a photo in his phone with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background, President Biden asked President Xi, “Do you know this young man?” “Oh yes,” said President Xi, “this was 38 years ago.”

The Violence Outside the DNC Last Night - The Capitol Police released the following statement about the violence which broke out last night:
Last night approximately 200 people gathered in front of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters to protest the conflict in the Middle East.
We have handled hundreds of peaceful protests, but last night’s group was not peaceful. The crowd failed to obey our lawful orders to move back from the DNC, where Members of Congress were in the building.
When the group moved dumpsters in front of the exits, pepper sprayed our officers and attempted to pick up the bike rack, our teams quickly introduced consequences – pulling people off the building, pushing them back, and clearing them from the area, so we could safely evacuate the Members and staff.
Six officers were treated for injuries, from minor cuts to being pepper sprayed to being punched.
24-year old Ruben Arthur Camacho of Woodbridge, NY, was arrested for Assault on a Police Officer after an officer witnessed Camacho slam another officer into a garage door and then punch the female officer in the face.
Last night our team was quick, decisive, courageous and in control.
When demonstrations cross the line into illegal activity it is our responsibility to maintain order and ensure people’s safety.
A reminder that the largest sample size poll - 12,000 interviews via YouGov- of American attitudes towards the Israel-Hamas war finds Biden getting high marks from the public, Democrats and young people.
While there are clearly many upset at America’s support of Israel right now, those sentiments are not in any way representative of the majority of either of Democrats or young people. And of course a majority of Americans support a ceasefire - who wouldn’t be for a war ceasing, and bloodshed ending? If that is the only question you are looking at to assess public opinion around this challenging conflict you are missing a lot of data that paints a far more complex picture. Is there a broad backlash against Biden and the Dems? It didn’t show up last week in the election, and this week Biden’s approval rating has ticked up a bit in the 538 tracker. So, no, there isn’t a broad backlash.
We have a long way to go in this war, and the necessary domestic debate that has emerged around it, but there are a few things we know:
there isn’t conclusive evidence of a backlash against Biden
the violence we saw last night at the DNC, and the anti-Semitism we’ve seen expressed in some of the protests IS NOT OKAY and damages the cause the protestors are fighting for. Protestors here in the US can be pro-Palestinian without being anti-Semitic and anti-Jew; protestors here can be ambitious without being violent. Attempting to bar the doors at the DNC, just blocks from the Capitol, with Members of Congress inside, with January 6th a fresh memory for many, is not protesting. It’s reckless, dangerous behavior.
Keep working hard all. We sure have a lot of work to do - Simon
