Simon can you give me a reason or talking point to give a family member who told me he won’t vote for trump this time around ( voted for him 2xs) but then told me he also won’t vote for Biden. He hasn’t given me his reason for disliking Biden so much( as yet). He lives in Omaha, Nebraska. I feel that not voting is a vote for trump by default.

I tried to encourage him to please vote… his response to me “So what you’re telling me to do is just vote to vote. If I do not believe either can run the country properly that's not right. So I will still vote but just not for president.” Should I just accept this?

He's already made a vital shift in his thinking, by turning against trump. In some other manner, he will see Biden is a brilliant leader, by his support for workers, unions, women's reproductive freedom, the investment in new green technology.

I would suggest, imho, to see where he has passion and I bet he will see Biden's successful efforts. Or perhaps, he just has a deep, moral case (fear) about LGBTQ or guns or minorities, and just simply ... cannot ... make ... the leap.

Well, congratulations on the one hand. One less vote, and voice, for trump ...

Yes…we’ve come a long way in our communication since 2016. I’m hoping to find out his reasoning to hopefully give other information.

Sharon, find something that he cares about, and which Biden has done – perhaps something that has received far too little attention. Perhaps he cares about his Social Security? Does he take insulin? Does he care about Ukraine? American manufacturing jobs? Is he against Trump pardoning the January 6th insurrectionists? (Then he better vote for Biden!)

I totally agree with Frederick. Your family member has already taken a key step – he has no inclination to vote for Trump. That, too, is a win!

We aren’t close…I live in Virginia… he’s my cousin’s husband and we’ve become more animated with each other due to politics. I’m thrilled he has turned from trump. 💙

THANK YOU!

Appreciate you calling it what it is rather than the dismissive “hush money” lazy shorthand used by so many, especially the MSM.

While President Biden is doing great things for America, today is a consequential day for Trump in two courtrooms. In New York, National Enquirer publisher David Pecker continues his testimony, which is already damning.

In DC, the Supreme Court is hearing Trump’s absurd claim that he has "absolute immunity" for any crimes committed while he was president.

Rick Hasen, a prominent prominent professor specializing in election law, is live-blogging the SCOTUS hearing. Definitely worth following!

Wasn't the morning consult poll last week national while the poll this week was a conngromelate of state polling?

Expand full comment

That’s right, it was the average across the polled swing states — not a national sample.

Let me guess... Across several states with very small samples from each state

A reminder that Democrats have the power to sweep by registering people currently not on the voting rolls and not polled. 60% of unregistered voters have never been asked to register. To win in 2024, FT6 will reach out to "millions of unregistered likely Democrats using our one-of-a-kind database and every outreach method possible (phone and text, postcard, email and targeted ad, and in-person too), where new Democratic voters will make the most impact – in the most flippable states and districts." https://www.fieldteam6.org/

Simon, how unpopular is the TikTok ban with young voters? I can see how this move plays into already existing views of Biden and the Democratic party leadership being old and out of touch.

1) This was a GOP proposal, and something they insisted go into the package.

2) TikTok is a serious problem, and we need to not be afraid to have a serious conversation about it. Foreign manipulation of our domestic discourse is something we have to lead on, not run away from.

More, soon.

"Foreign manipulation of our domestic discourse…"

Such as Rupert Murdoch’s – an Australian – decades long manipulation of our domestic discourse through Fox News and the other "news" outlets the Murdochs own.

Kelli Ward was *Chair of the Arizona Republican Party*. Fake Electors was her third attempt to overthrow the Arizona vote. She petitioned the US Supreme Court to do that, based on lies she told them about Dominion machines. During the count, when Trump began to lose, she told a top official (elected GOP) to stop; a tape of this became public. As GOP Chair she had a lot of say in re-election funding.

She and her husband, also a fake elector, have *fled to the Bahamas* where they rent out a boat called "American Honey". They have a Youtube site and a blog, one post on which expresses surprise that anyone would remark their leaving... suddenly... abandoning professions... after decades.

Sadly for justice they are probably safe there. Even the feds had a hard time extraditing Sam Bankman -Fried which was a high profile but non-political case of stolen $$Billions. I doubt that an individual state can extract comparative nobody Ward, with political ramifications and without financial fraud.

Simon, can you comment or interview Jess Piper (https://jesspiper.substack.com/p/instead-of-leaving-rural-america?utm_source=profile&utm_medium=reader2) to discuss / argue / debate how to approach rural counties? Seems quite clear to me watching my purple state that Democrats have not been investing enough in the outlying rural areas, which are red, but ripe for change.

As a matter of precedent, I can't do this. If I were to start being asked to comment on the hundreds of potential things that are written each day that all of you read I would not be able to do anything else. I will attempt to review it in the coming weeks and offer thoughts, but no I cannot comment on this interview.

That's fine, not looking for your comment, just wondering if you have had any guests that really discuss the funding of downlevel races in the red states--what are the reasonable lines to draw for who gets funding, why does Democratic Party invest where it does, what are the decisions made, the calculations behind those decisions? I for one would find that very interesting to know more about.

SC,

Rural Ground Game: rural ground game.org

is another Democratic group working to register and reach out to rural areas. I’ve donated to them but just couldn’t recall their name until today. Hope you can find info you’re looking for.

SC,

You may want to check out Dirt Road Democrats established by Jamie Harrison in 2020. I received a donation request and researched it a bit. It’s based on development of a long term plan for rural engagement/ change and could probably use interested, invested volunteers. Looked interesting.

To all those who will not be voting for democracy and Biden: it's the equivalent of those who want to burn it all down. There are policies of Biden about Gaza etc I don't agree with. Nonetheless, we can survive policies. What we cannot survive is Trump continuing to undermine our democracy and thwarting our constitution and the Law. Vote for Biden and Democrats up and down the ballot!

Good to see the poll of what is more important to younger voters. It's up to us to keep the focus on those younger voters and encourage them to keep fighting for our democracy. I am encouraged by the many younger voters all over the country doing their part to re-elect Joe Biden.

We adults in the room need to not let ourselves get pulled into what is going on in a very small group of campuses with a very, itty, bitty, tiny group of young students. They have been pulled into something without the maturity and understanding of tribal wars that have gone on for decades in the ME. I don't see this as a movement growing as we older voters saw during the Vietnam era. Disruptive to some, yes, but not growing in the way that we saw in the 60's.

The protests we should be having is a “pro democracy/rule is law” advocacy. Netanyahu and hard right compatriots are just like Putin. They are part of the world wide campaign against democracy and the Jewish anti Jewish fever is meant to distract everyone from that true effort.

“Yes a Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll had Biden down 6 yesterday, and yes the Morning Consult weekly tracking poll - yes the same pollster - had Biden up 1 this week. How do you make sense of that? You can’t. I have no idea how the same pollster can produce such different results in the same week.”

One possible explanation for the discrepancy between the two Morning Consult polls is that the pollster’s computers were hacked. Following the passage of the TikTok divestment legislation, China certainly has added motivation to help Trump win.

From what i've read about the SCOTUS response to oral arguments, it seems to imply there's a good chance it will be bounced back to lower courts leaving little or no chance that the case will be tried before Election. Not the outcome I was hopium for! What's your take?

Whether you pro pro-Israel or pro-Palestinian we can debate and come to policies on what to do and we can survive. What we cannot survive is to surrender our democracy into the hands of darkness. For those who love country over party and people of all generations keep the torch of democracy lit! And pass it on. For Biden. I'd vote for him even if he were dead!
