Not trying to be pedantic but, in the headline and early paragraph in the post, McMarrow should be McMorrow.

Simon, thanks for the look at the polls. Your post says, "The Atlantic celebrated our 250th birthday this weekend in part by revisiting an article it published ten days ago, on July 4th, 2016," but I think you mean published ten years ago.

I called Congressman Raskin and Senators Alsobrooks and Van Hollen about Trump's destruction of our Capitol city and about the (related) fact that he's not in touch with reality and needs to be removed as soon as possible. I'm working on postcards to Ohio voters today.

When We Count

Voter Registration Training Series

Building a blue electorate starts from the ground up, and expanding our voter base is the single most effective way to secure Democratic victories.

This month, the DNC is launching Voter Registration Best Practices, an exclusive four-part virtual training series designed to equip our partners with the data-driven strategies, resources, and refined tactics developed through our premier When We Count program.

Whether you are looking to scale up your organization’s digital footprint, sharpen your volunteer messaging, or optimize in-person field tactics, this series has something for everyone.

Deborah, thanks for your post re: DNC voter reg efforts. From what I see, although it's not completely clear, this is a program to recruit young people (a noble effort) to work on voter reg. But I don't see where there's any program -- not yet anyway -- for the rest of us who want to volunteer for voter reg. Am I missing something?

As a US Soccer fan, this FIFA decision puts a partisan pall on the team’s efforts. If Balogun scores, if the US wins this or other games, there will always be an asterisk. I’m appalled. I believe the US could have won this game without him. Epic corruption hits our beloved team. Shame on US soccer for participating in this.

McMorrow dropping out of Michigan’s hot Senate race, and NOT endorsing either Dem candidate, shows the influence of AI, Corporate, status-quo Dem, and AIPAC money coming into support Haley Stevens. Stevens is getting endorsements from many establishment Dems acting like gop-lite supporters. They are hoping to appeal to Michigan’s rural-guy trump voter, who they believe are afraid of women, and disillusioned-GOP men and women who are afraid of men-of-color-with-weird-names-albeit-sane-policies. In this way, establishment Dems are acting like everything we are sick of. GOP supporters are angling on voting in the Dem Primary, this August 4th, for Abdul El-Sayed, because they think Islamophobia is a good political strategy. The establishment Dems clutch their pearls screaming “Don’t go so Progressive! We don’t really want change!” But Michigan has an opportunity to elect an unowned politician in Abdul El-Sayed. He’s unapologetically For People. What a concept! I hope McMorrow endorses Abdul El-Sayed. She has a greater chance of staying relevant to Michiganders if she does. Be a part of the solution, Mallory!

So it's OK for folks to endorse a progressive/DSA candidate in a primary but not an establishment Democrat who is an incredibly well-regarded young House Member?

“GOP supporters are angling on voting in the Dem Primary, this August 4th, for Abdul El-Sayed, because they think Islamophobia is a good political strategy”

To MLRGRMI: As an El-Sayed supporter, doesn’t the fact that the GOP so clearly wants him to win the primary give you some pause about his viability in the general election? I’m not saying the GOP is right or wrong but they are the ones who have skin in the game and want to defeat the Democrats in this race. They would not be signaling their strong preference for him if they didn’t clearly think he is the easier candidate to beat.

All I’d ask of the El-Sayed supporters is to take concerns about El-Sayed’s electability seriously, these concerns are not just being cynically weaponized by Stevens supporters but are based on the judgment of a lot of smart people.

Good morning good people:

Today I am finishing a draft of my article about how our newly adopted “recommended” county budget for ‘26-‘27 falls short of both the board’s adopted budget Policies and adopted budget Priorities. In the piece I will scrupulously avoid direct mention of the possibly felonious activities of one of the supervisors which is documented in the county’s newly released Civil Grand Jury report. There will be plenty of screeching made by all the usual suspects over the next few months.

Today I am suggesting to Senators Schiff and Padilla and to Congressman McClintock, that Mr. Trump is sufficiently dangerous to the world, to the nation and to individuals within the nation that he should be relieved of his office as close to immediately as possible.

What can stop Trump from declaring a national emergency? What legal actions? An outcry and a threat of impeachment?

Hum, it sounds like Platner could possibly withdraw from the race and a new candidate would be chosen. NYT gift article https://www.nytimes.com/live/2026/07/06/us/platner-campaign-accusation?unlocked_article_code=1.vlA.L11e.8cpkqNHO1LHs&smid=url-share

Live Updates: Platner Will Take Time to ‘Reflect’ on Campaign After Sexual Assault Accusation

Graham Platner, the Democratic Senate candidate in Maine, called the allegation “false.” He did not say if he would continue his campaign.

"It was not immediately clear whether Mr. Platner intended to continue his campaign against Senator Susan Collins, a Maine Republican. He has until July 13 to withdraw from the race, and if he does the state Democratic Party has until July 27 to replace him on the ticket, according to Maine state law."

The idea that El-Sayed is doomed in the general and we should play the same game we always play and elect establishment dems that do not put the ball of policy for bettering Michiganders’ lives over the line is the reason we have such a high “eligible-voter-just-sitting-it-out” percentage. I understand the game of politics, but watching candidates accept money from AI, Crypto, AIPAC, etc and being told to still believe they will be good for making the hard democratic decisions that need to be made? Come on. Listen to many young people. They don’t want to survive the problems. They want leaders who will actually fight to STOP the problems. Believing we can do that with establishment Dems that go along to get along ? I’m not such a believer anymore. And the young just see it as “Shut up and Dribble”.

Simon Rosenberg's avatar

M, what is an establishment Dem? Who is an establiment Dem? Are our candidates for the House and Senate establishment Dems? Don't we have to win with progressives and establishment Dems? Are you suggesting there is a choice?

Substack and Zoom allow people to learn from pros like you and Stuart. Agree; Dems should proclaim their intention to hold corruptors accountable lest this all becomes normalized.

Your talk inspired a letter to my Senators and Rep.
