Sorry I missed yesterdays zoom session. I predicted a Florida evacuation when DeSantis signed the bill. Just after the hurricane, people were hoping to get help rebuilding and already the workforce had decreased. The bill was written anticipating a Republican Autocratic Party’s perceived “crisis” at the border. It never happened because Biden implemented a sound plan that was effective.
Moving into 2023-24 we must focus on communication skills. Independents, and some mid-road Republicans, do not speak the Democrat’s language. As you stated they feel both parties are corrupt. In writing to them we must keep our writing as un-partisan as possible, using words that sooth rather than agitate. I suggest going to sites such as www.swingleft.org and www.voteforward.org to read about how to speak and draw in hesitant but probable voters.
Whatever method used to communicate, it is helpful to learn the words that are best used and which have been researched and provided through these organizations.
You can write letters or, if you are an avid social media person, write out hard thought frames and repeatedly put them out there. If sending postcards is more attractive, go to Postcards to Swing States at https://www.turnoutpac.org/postcards/ , Postcards to Voters at https://postcardstovoters.org/ or Postcards for America https://www.postcardsforamerica.com/ As you become better acquainted with the material you will become better able to communicate about the issues verbally.
I listened to yesterday’s program Simon and understand the structure you are building. Laying out information to be shared is vitally important. We must become better versed I at how, where, and when to distribute the information. I strongly suggest starting with a local Democrat group. Write out short paper, make copies, and ask for five minutes to present it at a meeting. It should reflect the information you are disseminating and encourage members to join the Hopium Chronicles website to get updates and new information.
re communication skills - check out Anat Shenker-Osorio and her website ASO Communications. Under "Learn" read her "Messaging Guides" for how to talk on various subjects. Anat is brilliant at finding words that allow people to listen to what the speaker is saying without getting turned off or becoming judgemental. And there are multiple videos on YouTube where she is a guest presenter. Here is an 18 minute program that gives you a good idea of how she thinks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HtjXmxXsos
I live in Florida so I see firsthand the damage DeSantis has done here. Thanks for listing the petition. Many of us have not only signed petitions here, but are mobilizing at libraries, parks and other places to get folks to sign them in person. There is so much enthusiasm and angst here that we believe we will be successful.
Watched Women’s Coalition piece. Compelling. Have shared with FL snowbirds who have registered to vote in FL. Encouraged them to watch for petition. Thanks Simon for the info.
Appreciate everyone sharing the link above to friends in Florida. Let's use our networks to help this signature effort. Getting this done fast will send an important signal in Florida. Thank you all - S
We must never forget, Prop 187 was the template for bills like Puddin Fingers' 1718 Bill.
CA was solidly a Red state in support of Nixon and Reagan, and Wilson (who introduced the bill). But 187 became a watershed moment in CA politics, spurring so many Americans of Mexican and Central American heritage to run for office, flipping the state legislature from a GOP majority, to a Democratic super-majority.
In addition, CA immigration policies changed significantly and we are now a sanctuary state, where undocumented immigrants can access healthcare, procure driver’s licenses, and use other public services.
Here's what I don't get, Simon. How is it that vast numbers of people of Cuban descent actually support both trump and Rhonda? It makes no sense to me that people who were subjected to authoritarian rule for generations would now support obvious authoritarians? Can anyone explain this?

Thank you.
He was at Guantanamo with a clipboard, watching as electric wires were attached to testicles and laughing about it. What else do we need to know?

Thank you, Simon. You are a balm to my soul in this beautiful world. Also, hell yeah, Donna Shalala!

DeSantis avoids the A word like the plague ! Fl abortion bill is most severe as it requires 2 appts PRIOR to 6 weeks.
Over 200,000 signed petitions in a month. Woohoo !
DeSantis Vindictiveness= Harm to all Floridians
Biggest budget item he vetoed was supported by AG Sec Simpson, one of the few FL GOP who has NOT voiced support for “ Prez” DeSantis.
Simpson : ➡️“Agriculture was harmed today and so was the state of Florida.”

For a while Kansas was supposed to be the cautionary tale about GOP policies, but it didn't really catch on. Florida's a bigger deal.
Prescient as always
